I admit that I LOVED the uniforms in this game

The first College football team I started watching was Notre Dame in 77 because of the professional style play of Quarterback Joe Montana. So I always thought that Green was Notre Dame's traditional Jersey color. It took me a few years to learn that Blue was actually Notre Dame's traditional Jersey color.

Class that some Tech players huddled with ND after the incident when Devine gave em' the pep talk.

If memory serves me correctly (I was 10 years old at this time), the cause of "tempers flaring" between the Irish bench and the stands was objects, including dead fish, being hurled at the players. For those of you unaware, that's an anti-Catholic statement.

Yes, it was an anti-Catholic gesture. Which was common place when Notre Dame played teams in the south. I remember listening to the game live on the radio and the field reporter on the broadcast was describing the Georgia Tech fans throwing dead fish calling the Notre Dame players mackerel snappers. They were also throwing empty half pint bottles of booze and batteries. I also heard this story from two Notre Dame players that were there. Evidently, it was going on longer than this tape delayed broadcast showed. A very similar thing happened to Notre Dame the year before (1977) when they played at Clemson. The Clemson fans were worse because they kept calling the ND players at the hotel and also sent a bomb threat to the hotel. Coach Dan Devine had to clear the whole team by order of the police and fire department at 3am the day of the game. Clemson was ranked 15th in the country then and their fans tried to make it very difficult for the Irish. They took a 17-7 lead on ND but the Irish prevailed 21-17 and went on to beat #1 Texas in the Cotton Bowl 38-10 to win the 1977 national championship. That was my favorite ND team ever! Go Irish!☘️

Chuck Male was a soccer-style kicker while Joe Unis was from the old school - he kicked straight on.

This is the game where Vegas Ferguson broke the single game rushing record by gaining 255 yards.

This must have been before the NCAA banned schools wearing white jerseys at home.

Doesn't LSU still consistently wear white jerseys at home?

The road-team-wears-white rule was in place from 1983 through 1996.

IINM they amended that rule so that one team has to wear white. It doesn't matter which team, just one team has to wear white.

I grew up watching Tech play during this era. It's still disorienting for me to see them wear dark jerseys.

@@8avexp There must be exceptions. UCLA and USC both still wear dark jerseys when they play. Crosstown rivals.
