Good stuff, as usual Steve. You didn't mention it, but I certainly noticed the BARGE BITE was outstanding. I guess we could speculate all day long as to the Barge Bite theory. Thanks for sharing your knowledge & videos.
This video really helps. Cant wait tell i get my boat next spring and try all your tactics. So far they are working on the bank. im definitely going to the ohio river i only live 2 hours from there. Thanks Steve keep the videos coming
im not as fortunate to have a depth finder but i do have a 10' flat bottom john boat..after you talking about NAVIONICS and combing that with all your other hints and tips.. i have pushed the limits off that little boat and have turned up some more great cats faster than sitting hours on the bank..thank for all the tips and hints..awesome job
thats some nice blues there steve thanks for the info we just go the new depth finders installed going to give this a shot next weekend on a new lake were going to thanks
That was a good one Steve! We're fixin to kick off the 2015/16 winter big cat hunt down here in North Texas soon. With all the lakes around here close to pool for the first time in a long time.Gonna have a lot of new water to explore, but that's half the fun.Good luck to ya brother!
Looks like boat control is what it's all about when drift fishing. The boat itself becomes one big bobber with the trolling motor controlling the rod tips. You sure are good at it. Practice Pays Off.
I got into a school of Flatheads on Claytor Lake one time like that, it was crazy. I was getting bites faster than I could handle them for about 30 minutes, then they just quit.
I have lived in mean right on the Ohio River all my life it was right out the front door down the steps onto the dock and into the boat with my father back then now I'm teaching my grandsons some of the unique ways to catching big catfish and in this day and my age there isn't as many big cats out there so here is my question when fishing for flatheads is it best to drag to catch big fish or am I better to anchor out ,or maybe tie up to a tree out in the water as I live where I can see the Manchester islands from where I live ( the river averages about 22 feet around here ) thanks From Yours TRULEY SQUEE LEWIS
Have you seen the I-Pilot link from Min Kota? It looks like it will let you set a program that will follow a preset contour line. If I understand it right, you can set a depth, and it will follow that, leaving you a bit more hands free? Just a suggestion. I know it is pricey.
Hi steve. I live in cincinnati Ohio, right near the ohio river! I have a question for you. Since I don't have a boat, and i cant put my kayak on the river, I have stuck to a private lake near my house. It is about 150 acres, and it gets up to 85 feet deep in some parts. They stocked 10 thousand channel cats in there 5 years ago, and only about 1 to two hundred people have access to this lake. So they should still be in there. Anyway, I have a depthfinder on my kayak, but it doesnt have very good sonar for finding and marking fish. But i still can see depth, and some bait balls and stuff. But I need help catching channel cats. I have tried 6-8 inch chunks of cut sucker, but they dont work. I was wondering, where i should target, and what baits I should use. Should I use chicken liver on the bottom? Or cut shad? Thanks for your time steve! Great videos keep it up!
Steve I am not so lucky to have a boat and much less a fish finder. Just out of bad luck I have to do a lot of bank fishing here in Kansas. How would you go about finding some of these money holes while on land?
i use google earth and navionics to scout out potential spots both are free tools that help alot so i bet you could be successful doing the same thing. look for bends in the river or current breaks, there is alot of exploring you can do from home. good luck
ty Steve. maybe next year you could come to Topeka, ks for the boat and outdoor show. the boat show is the 3-5 Feb 2017. I am going to have a booth for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing to do some fund raising. Have a great year on the water.
Steve Douglas The Catfish Dude tried that for Ohio river but the free navi app doesn't have a lot of info for Ohio river. another issue i have is i am not local so idk which spots are accessible and which aren't (for bank fishing), even with checking google earth doesn't tell me if I'm "allowed" to fish there :(
I'ma just be clear with you. you are me favorite youtuber. I started fishing a year ago and decide do do something bigger with fishing so i started a youtube channel. slowly but surly everything will be up and running next year as far as clothing, website and more. Have you seen the I-Pilot link from Min Kota? It looks like it will let you set a program that will follow a preset contour line. If I understand it right, you can set a depth, and it will follow that, leaving you a bit more hands free? Just a suggestion. I know it is pricey.

How do you stay on the drift line....Leland
just asking so how often do you make it to the West Tennessee part of the river
Hey Steve, do the elite series depth/fish finders from lowrance show your speed?
monsterman27 yes it does on my 7
what about on a smaller river you've never fished from a boat before? Like say a Lake Erie Tributary?
Steve, do you find that the fish will be at a particular depth in 1 area, or could they be in 60' on one side of the river, and 35' on the other side?
Ross McClure 35-45 is a majic number for me and is always a good depth to start, on either side.
Steve do you still do any bass fishing?
Jacob Brewer i do not, not that im opposed to it, i just dont have the time anymore
Steve I am not so lucky to have a boat and much less a fish finder. Just out of bad luck I have to do a lot of bank fishing here in Kansas. How would you go about finding some of these money holes while on land?
