Hi Ron, you have inspired me to buy and build my first laser cut wood kit. I have been in the hobby for 46 years, and believe it or not, I have always been intimidated by the wood kits. Russ
Ron, I have found that building hip-style roofs such as the one you've done to be especially challenging. Your tips should be very helpful when I try to do this again in the future. ...Roy
Hi, Roy. This can be figured mathematically using some geometric formulas, but not everyone is great at that kind of math, so I tried to show the easiest way I could do get the joy done.
Nice Ron!! I guess I'm odd... I don't mind longer videos. As long as the content is good, a full hour isn't unreasonable! I liked the idea of modifying the roof. I'm guessing that like most, these kits represent Eastern structures, and have steeper pitched roofs because of the snowfall. I definitely got ideas from this, as I'm going to scratchbuild a couple of buildings, and understanding the actual archetecture under the roof was a huge help! 😀 One thing, and I'm SURE it's just me... but while the roof was off, seemed like a great time to install some SMDs in the slots in the ceiling, for interior lighting, where the roof supports would have gone, had you used the wood parts. ..... And there's an advantage of wood kits worth mentioning. If you do light your structures, the only place you have to worry about light leaking, is at the body seams. And those can be easily sealed with some black RTV Silicone on the inside! I really like the way you present your subjects! A main reason why I do so few videos. I've got a face for radio, and little stage presence!! 😵😝 Carmine 🚂
+PacbeltRR Hi, Carmine. Thanks for your comment. As for the lighting, I considered doing some detailing on the interiobr and lighting this kit, but when I put it on the layout to test it I realize that it was so close to the backdrop on the upper deck of my layout that you would never see it even with lights. That's why I decided not to light or detail the interior. You make a good point about the wood kits and light. Thanks for bringing that up. That is something I had thought about mentioning when I considered lighting the structure, but since I didn't I never got it mentioned. As for your last comment, you'll notice that I almost never show my face during the modeling portions of these videos. LOL. I am, however, a public speaker by trade so I have a little practice and experience at that. Thanks again for watching.
If the content is full of Info like your video's are, the time of the video is not a big deal. And i will say your explanation of how you calculated your roof is very well explained. So with that said Ron, you Sir can Math. lol
Thanks, Phillip. I love geometry, but I know not everyone does so I try to explain in such a way as to make it as simple as possible. Thanks for watching.
Nice work Ron, I am enjoying the entire series. I am unable to participate in a financial capacity due to my current physical and resulting financial status. I will however continue to enjoy your TH-cam channel videos as long as they are available. Thanks
Good show Ron, it looks great, never tried a laser cut kit but think I'll try one out someday, I've seen some done from printed on inkjet on card stock with added detail and the look really good Luke Towan did one in a video th-cam.com/video/nHPWPoZMwZQ/w-d-xo.html is a good one to see, let me know what you think, he has lots of good ideas, check him out, thanks again got the intro to laser cut buildings...
Great video. Nice modifications. Just built my first craftsman kit after having it for 20 years.
great job esp the roof thanks for the tips

With a little patience, they are not as hard as many think.
Stumbled upon your channel yesterday. Great channel. Thank you.
+John Comita Jr. Thank you and welcome.
'Dad, did you just "raise the roof"? Good grief.'
Lol. Loved it. -Mark
Yes, my kids love that one...NOT! LOL. Thanks.

+Legion of Weirdos Thanks.
nice building, great instructions and awesome video, thanks for sharing...
Thanks.
Hi Ron, I love your videos. What is the brand and best type glue to use on GHQ, metal model Vehicles?
For metal models I always use CA. I used to buy it from the hobby store, but have found Gorilla brand at Walmart in small tubes works great.

I would like to see some engine builds.
I actually have a locomotive build video in the works, but it will probably October or November before it is finished. Stand by. 👍

Thanks, Peter. My greatest hope in doing this channel is that people enjoy the videos and find them helpful.
