    Dan, I love that you gave an honest and fair review of this product and was not a sponsor to promote it! I love the concept of a shepherd's pie but would definitely want mine to have some meat with it. Blessings, Rob

      Meatless shepherd's pie was a bit strange, but you know that's not really the problem I had with it. Things were so different. For example, usually when we have shepherd's pie it has layers and usually has mashed potatoes. This almost had french fries for the potatoes. It had some really nice spice to it. Overall it was just a bit of a creative way to make something. Very non-traditional. My bigger gripe was the cost. Thanks Rob for leaving a note and watching!

      The alerts are really funky! My list is so weird lately. When I go into my subscriptions, I'll see channels I'm caught up to that show little icons that I'm missing videos. Doesn't make a lot of sense. I think it didn't rehydrate because it was so cold out. Didn't mind heating it up in the canteen cup - had the stuff I needed in order to do that. The flavor was pretty good actually. Thanks for swinging back and watching.
      I've been trying to reshare newer videos a day after launch on my community tab and sharing highlights on shorts too so that if you miss the alert you have odds of seeing the video pop up somewhere else.

      Yah we had quite a large dump. I filmed this while on my November hot tent camping trip. Good news is we haven't had much snow since and we've had a few days of above freezing temps so some snow has melted. Our winter came on suddenly. However after the warming trend we are in, the forecast for next week looks alot colder. Thanks for stopping by!

    I always use dehydrated meals when I’m in the woods, for various reasons. The two big reasons are weight and clean up.
    My tip, make a pouch out of reflectix and place your meal bag inside. When it’s cold outside, it is tremendous for heat retention. You will be shocked at how long it stays hot, which helps rehydrate your meal completely.
    Still, like others say, it always takes longer than the suggested time.
    With this method I wait 30 minutes for every meal. Fully hydrated and scorching hot.
    Thanks for the post. Always enjoyable.

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You! I couldn't eat it initially. Too gross and chewy. The partially rehydrated Veggies don't do it for me. It was better after boiling the snot out of it.

  • @pineapplepetcorneats

    YAY to food review!!! Plant-based is always good for me... 22g of protein is pretty good for something so easily prepared! It's a little expensive though but it's a good back-up plan to have in the pack.

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well said. It was quite different than what I'd expect in a Shepherd's Pie but had good flavor after I cooked the Veggies for the extra time on the stove.
      I'd get it again , but I'd look for some deals. Regular price was a bit steep.

    Whoa! That price, my oh my. Glad you got it on sale. I think I paid $12 for the Hungarian Goulash, and was severely under impressed (not how I wanted to feel after 5 hours on trail). I'm glad to see you had a similarly underwhelming impression haha. For $18 though, I'll stick to some freeze dried peak refuel when I'm feeling extravagant, haha

      Absolutely! I tried to justify it in my head that maybe the higher "quality" is worth the cost? A bit pricy. I was also a tad bit crabby ad I filmed this while deciding to stay or go during the hot tent camp. Probably in a bit of a mood lol.
      It was a tasty meal to be honest once the Veggies were cooked in the cup. Glad I had that as an option. It easily took 10-15 more minutes of simmering to make the Veggies edible. Crunchy hard vegetables aren't for me.

      By comparison something like Mountain House Spaghetti and Meat Sauce here from Cabela's is about $13-$14 bucks for a similar sized portion. The Nomad Nutrition one definitely has healthier Veggie content but the cost is a lot more. Maybe you're paying a premium for something Canadian and likely made in a smaller facility.

      Tom, I agree. A bit steep, maybe there are better deals out on it. I get that it's probably a bit more expensive since it's a smaller Canadian Company (not big box company) and it's plant-based. The taste was good, but it's a very different take on Shepherd's Pie.

    That looks really good but I am sorry to hear about the veggies not hydrating. I still got hungry watching you eat it LOL. Wow 18 dollars is a little nuts. Yep, I hear ya. It's nice that it's made in BC though. I gotta say, that's a rare thing. I hear ya about being able to go eat at a pretty good restaurant for that cost.

      Yah, I couldn't push myself to eat chewy and partially rehydrated Veggies. Had to boil the heck out of it. In retrospect, it was a weird take on Shepherd's Pie, but it tasted pretty good. I think we have 2 others from this company. I'll review them soon.

      It tasted fairly good. I think the rehydration issues was mostly because it was so cold out. A bit expensive, but what isn't now a days.

      It's a good one to try on sale. The taste was good but overall their take on Shepherd's Pie was a bit different and non conventional. Cost was definitely high though. Likely due to it being a small made in Canada product.

      Pretty much, right? I think if you convert the $17 CDN I think that's about $13-$14 US. Still expensive for the portion size in my opinion. A nice steak and a baked potato would be alot tastier!

    Yea the dehydrated meals sometimes need a bit longer to soak up the water. Personally, as someone who actually has Celiacs Disease, I find it frustrating that so many gluten free things are made vegan as well for absaloutely no good reason!

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is common! I don't know why they do that. I got some from a company called Right on Trek that does ones that are gluten free but not vegan. Those ones are great, they're made in Montana but they don't sell right now to Canada. I have a few videos of some of them that they sent me and I reviewed and made videos on. Maybe you can get them On Amazon or Ebay.

    Seems a bit pricey. Too bad it didn't quite rehydrate correctly. I feel like calling it shepherds pie isn't quite right.

    • @DCOutdoors
      @DCOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was pretty damn cold out so that probably impacted the rehydration. I have two other meals of there's we picked up. I'll do one at home to see if it was really hit by being outside in the below freezing conditions. Cost was a bit much. Most of the mainstream backpacking meals , Mountain House for example are more like $13-$15 per meal. I agree , it's a take on Shepherd's Pie but it's not traditional at all. Did taste ok once I boiled the hell out of it. Thanks for watching. Hope some of the Fast Food Restaurants have some good Black Friday/ Cyber Monday deals for you.
