    My husband and I maintain joint and separate accounts. It’s a good way to be on the same page about shared expenses like rent and eating out, but it also gives us freedom and individuality in buying non-essentials with our personal money.

      Dejuh Vuh We put 75% of our income to a joint account for shared expenses; the rest goes to our own separate accounts.
      My husband earns more, so his share is about 65% of our monthly expenses.

    I like splitting it based on income and then separate and joint accounts. I used to think completely joint was the only way to go but money is literally SUCH a sensitive topic for so many people. A little individual liberty probably goes a long way.

    • @HylianVamp
      @HylianVamp 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      This is how my SO of 10 years and I split it. We earn different amounts (60/40) and so I multiple that percentage of our total bills and food budget to get how much each of us will put in our joint checking. And for joint savings, we have a goal and we contribute a percentage each. Then whatever is leftover is ours to spend on whatever. Fast food/restaurant costs come out of our personal so whoever decides to get food will pay that time.

    The problem I see here is with the term "romantic partner". That can mean so many different things which would equal different approaches. How I split costs with a boyfriend is going to be different than a husband. I'm not getting a joint account with a boyfriend.

  • @Thecrazynecklacelady

    Divide bills based on earnings percentage. For example, with a total household income of $100,000 at $60k and $40k, one should pay 60% and 40% respectively of shares expenses such as rent, groceries, etc. I agree on having joint and separate accounts. I'm single and pay all my own bills while my guy friends provide disposable income.
