    I am not a fan of generic Chinese bikes like these despite the quality slowly improving, but why on earth don't Suzuki /Yamaha / Honda build a little 125 that looks as good as this ?

    • @bunnydaduk
      @bunnydaduk 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      exactly ! probably not a lot of profit or they would have done it I would have thought ! better way for them is sell their engines

      @kevinmobile 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@WyreForestBiker Are you saying that this engine is likely to have been reverse engineered from a Suzuki one and therefore quite likely to be infringing patents?
      If that's the case I would like to think that Suzuki would investigate and given that China is party to international treaties on patent litigation (eg WIPO Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property 1883 and Patent Cooperation Treaty 1970), I wonder whether the importers should be bringing this stuff into the UK?

    • @returnedtotheearth1326
      @returnedtotheearth1326 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The patents will have run out by now. This is an engine from 1982. But don't worry each bike comes with a free copy of Duran Durans Rio on cassette 😆

    • @kevinmobile
      @kevinmobile 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@returnedtotheearth1326 You're certainly right for older engines as the international patent lasts only 20 years. Interestingly while large Chinese companies themselves file patents, they too are subject to infringements from their own country such is the culture and anarchy in that country. It was estimated recently that of 12 million Japanese motorcycles in China, 7 million are shameless fakes.
      Anyone for a cheap Chinese brake pad?

    11 thumbs down? I really don't know why some think a vlog like this is rubbish, hardly ever do they put a comment in the comment section stating why, I'd love to know. Maybe they passed their test years ago and have no Ned for a 125cc or maybe they are just not liking the fact it's Chinese. Neither of these reasons or any other I can think of warrant a thumbs down as your vlogs reach out to all riders new and old.

    • @returnedtotheearth1326
      @returnedtotheearth1326 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I don't think there should be a thumbs down option. My guess would be because it's a brand new bike with an engine from 1982 in it and it's getting praise. It shouldn't be praised in my opinion.

    These things look great but I've done the Chinese cheap bike thing and I'd never go that route again... I sold it before doing any motovlog on/about it, but believe me, it was painful to own... Which is a shame, because these things, much like the Mondial bikes, are a lot cooler than what Yamaha / Suzuki / Honda are offering at the moment.

    Undeniably stylish little bike. I'm not sold on Chinese bikes just yet but they often get accused, rightly in many cases, of blatantly ripping off other manufacturers designs, but this looks quite original and a lot better than many of the bigger companies offerings.

    Nice review of a cracking little 125. If it's got two wheels and an engine then it's good enough for me. Cant abide the snobbery that some big bike owners seem to have. Many years ago my wife wanted to get in to biking. Spent ages looking at second hand 125s. The majority had been either ragged to death, dropped or had no maintenance, or all 3! Ended up buying a Hongdou 125. Basically a cb125 . 800 quid on the road, delivered to the door ready to go! Mechanically it was excellent, the fit and finish left a little to be desired. The rubber gaiters on the clutch cable, for example, perished within months and the wheel bearings didn't last much longer. Having said that, it got my Mrs. on the road and clocked up some serious mileage, winning a few long distance learner trophies at a several rallies. Sold it at 2 years old for £500. Including the bits and Bob's that we replaced and servicing, about 450 squid for 2 years biking. I'll lose 3 times that amount as soon as I ride my new bike off the forecourt next week! Might even get something like this myself for pottering about and when the weathers crap to save the Triumph from the elements.

    Lovely looking bike. People moan about Chinese bikes but a bike like this would be perfect for just pottering around the lanes on and to get young un's into motorcycle. You got the price wrong though. It's Just under £2200 for the scrambler and the Hanway Raw (road version) is £1800. Much better value than the mutt mongrel you reviewed and can carry out the customisation yourself and still have plenty of change. You once mentioned you fancied a project. Great looking little bike and good to see you reviewing some of these budget bikes. Nothing like this existed when I was a novice 17 year old otherwise I'm sure they would have sold well. Shame the big Japanese companies can't produce something as good looking. I recognise that the build quality of these Chinese machine is still behind that of the Japanese and European machines, but its getting better and is probably no worse than levels on Japanese machines a decade or so back. I also think you touched on a relevant point in that, because they're so cheap, maybe owners don't lavish so much care and attention on them as they would on a more expensive bike, hence they often look a bit ratty. Good review, keep up the good work.

    The speedogear at the frontwheel are one of the few things that might stop working. Anyway, easy to replace. You might concider changing the injector from its original 060 to 070. The Monkey 125 have actually a 080 injector, so the Hanway runs quite lean. You will see this when you check the spark plug.

    I've been trawling the current range of Japanese lightweight bikes and can't find anything similar to the Chinese offerings.So if you like this style of bike, but are wary of buying Chinese, the Japanese don't seem to have an answer. They don't seem to offer lt/wt trail bikes anymore? No DT350/125/175 etc. And anyway, seat height often an issue for some folks on those. I wonder if many of these models will be taking rides with the TRF as they would seem ideal. This bike is on a Masai badge and priced at 2500 euros here (France), I live right next to forest tracks and trails, and am tempted. I've done some on my Honda Dominator but its bloody hard work, in fact, it was easier going down one on my Harley!!!!!!!!!!. The Japanese may well catch up-you young pups were not about when The Japanese lt/wt bikes hit the UK -learners could ride a 250cc back then, their bikes bought affordable NEW bikes in and Motorcycling was fun again, F Fwd and bring on the mega bikes and it all got too serious again. Fact is, if it has two wheels and an engine, its a hoot, and the above bike does not need a massive outlay to get in the breeze.

      Datsun were shit when they first came on the market, but they soon uped their game and produced some great cars, I was a mechanic way back then at a BMC and Datsun dealership, maybe the Chinese will go the same way but I would wait a few years before investing in one

      You do realise this bike has a copy of a 1982 Suzuki engine in it? So a near 40 year old design. That's where China are. Just taking an old out of patent design and banging it out on the cheap. If a Japanese or European manufacturer came out with a new bike and stuck that engine in it they would be laughed out the building.

    The problem, in my opinion, with these chinese bikes isn't that they are badly made , most of them these days are ok, the problem is that they cost too much for what they are, some of them already costing £3.500 to £4.000 , for the same money I can buy japanese and it will keep its value unlike most chinese bikes.

      Yeah I meant more from a weather protection point of view. I was recently reading various comments from Hanway owners who were complaining of electric faults due to rusting of the connectors and causing a whole host of issues in a very short period of time. Another guy who brakes seized after 300 and then had a fault with the ECU after 700. Another who's speedo stopped working after 500. Etc. The list went on. Quality bit of kit 😆 I know all bikes can have issues but it appeared a lot of problems particularly electrical within a few miles of ownership tells me it's junk, albeit cheap junk.

If I was 17 again, which would take some thinking back, would I buy this or a "Japanese" 125cc for around £2,900, especially as Honda UK is currently offering 0% over two years? Probably neither, as I'd buy something second hand, pass my test and trade up to a 47bhp (UK riders) that would still give me around 80mpg.

    China used to have a terrible name with the quality their manufacturer products ,and to be honest it was honestly deserved .But now they are at last realising their mistakes and just because a bike is small it doesn’t mean that it can’t be good, and if they continues to improve the build quality they could go a long way. Look at the Honda 90 voted a few years ago the best bike in the world

    My first experience of linked brakes was on my guzzi spada back in the 70's, the system was excellent, I wonder if riders new to this feature are using it correctly?? -on the guzzi, you used the " rear brake" first then brought in the "front" a second or so after, so I assume thats how todays ones should be operated? you might find the brakes are better than they seem-dunno. However, super brakes on a light bike with knobbly tyres is probably not a good idea. Lack of a bash plate bit disappointing but should be easy to knock one up, but you won't be going anywhere too dodgy with the low slung zorst anyway. The first Chinese 125s I saw looked great but sounded hideous and the gearboxes were a bag of bolts, most dealers dropped the marque -Leonart- pretty quickly , but now, I would have less qualms about a Chinese bike.

      I measured mine against a gps sat nav and it is around 3 mph out which isn't too bad. At higher speeds, 50+ mph or higher it can be as much as 5 mph out the faster you go though for some reason. But up to about 50 its about 3 mph different.
