You don’t need to convert your music library to be able to play with denon Dj sc5000. The SC5000 does read and play Rekordbox music library playlist. Please update your comments.
This is the best review about both players on TH-cam, thank you for taking your time to do it.👏🏻👏🏻

+Projectepic ok, how many songs you gonna play in one set? not 3000 not 300,not even 100! ! ! a scratch dj would have a hard time scratching 100 samples from 100 hundred tracks.

I am excited about Denon's latest entry. For me,Denon is just a way fresher approach for DJ's., and way more fun! Their Decks and Controllers are extremely solid, well built, and support is pretty good. I love my MCX-8000 and may just add an SC-5000 just for kicks! Thank you again Denon for giving DJ's a competent, quality choice in decks and controllers. Gear in general!! i'm not a shill for any company, but when a musician finds what works,we tend to stay with it until we have a reason not to!

I'm sold on these players. I'm in the process of trading in my CDJ 2000's for a set of these pending trade in value and financing the remainding difference. I could care less if these ever become industry standard. I'd be very content having these in my own home studio regardless. Much superior than the competition IMO.

    Missing from your review...
    Pros for the Denon:
*No mention of Serato or Rekordbox conversion.
    *No mention of dual layers.
*Useable pitch ranges above 16%. Pioneer only has one range above 16% and it only has useless 0.5% increments.
    *No jog bend dead zone!
    Cons for the Denon:
*The forward jog bend is currently twice as sensitive as the rearward jog bend. Very awkward.
*When you are near/at zero pitch or in positive pitch or with keylock off, the Denon's sound is inferior to the Pioneer. The Denon only sounds better than Pioneer right now when in extreme negative pitch with keylock on. While it is compatible with 96khz sampling frequency files, the actual bandwith is only about 14hz to 14,000hz for its -3dB down points over the SPDIFs. With repeated braking or with extreme negative pitch with keylock on it is also possible to cause the Elastique keylock to malfunction.
*You also currently can't set cue or hot points until the track is analyzed, which means a delay of 15-30 seconds where all you can do is hit play unless the tracks are pre-analyzed. The Link and database of the SC5000 and Engine Prime is also inferior to Pioneer right now, which means if you do pre-analyze, it can get glitchy reading and linking large drives and is limited to 10,000 tracks that can link to the other player. If you don't pre-analyze, the Link appears to work fine for any amount of tracks and without much glitching if you routinely delete the database it creates when the player analyzed and logs tracks. Then we're back at the delay when you can set a cue or hot point as you wait for it to analyze tracks on load. Oh, and there is no Engine Prime track offloading over the Link back to the player, either.
*While it doesn't matter to me, Denon is lagging on HID, MIDI, and soundcard support. The SC5000 can't actually function as a USB soundcard yet. The only program it now works with is Serato and you must use another audio interface. It doesn't even support VDJ. They also can't yet even offload tracks from Engine Prime over ethernet to the players. Again, minor in my opinion but definitely behind Pioneer and sort of weird in how they're advertising as so revolutionary but missing these.
This is all resolvable in firmware on future updates, which I hope will also bring back the original SC5000 firmware's very high pitch resolution that Denon inexplicably and bizarrely got rid of on the last firmware update.

Thanks for all your added info! In reaction on not being complete in this review; our aim was not to make a complete comparison of all differences between the players. The central question for us was, is the Denon a serious contender for becoming the new club standard. That's why for instance we did not include the dual layer mode, it is not a relevant difference in club environments in our opinion (thought it is cool). Even though we feel the Denon is better in general than the Pioneer, it has not become the new club standard. This is because Pioneer has build up a solid reputation among professionals DJ's, and they (we:-) are not very eager to switch to a 'not Pioneer setup', unless something really revolutionairy comes along. We are very curious as to what the next Pioneer player will look like, what would you like to see as new features?

    • @reddepo

5:06 I would like to see Denon or Pioneer include caching for streaming playlists from SoundCloud, Metaop, Beatport, or any custom music streaming service; providing an alternative option from having to use a USB. Of course, this would require the latest 5G or WiFi processing. Just a matter of time. UPDATE: edmidentity.com/2018/10/23/soundcloud-dj-integration-2018/

You are doing a versus review... when you do that you automatically need to do all the differences between the players... this is not one of the greatest review/comparisons/versus or what you guys wanted to do about this (apart from trying to easy sell the product) as for a person who;s really interested in purchasing one of these new players from denon, this only makes me think this is not a great product... for example you talk about sturdy construction of the pioneers, you are stating that they feel cheap and plastic but the fact is that they can take a shit ton of beating in the clubs and still work fine as they were, while the denon's use of plastic on the knobs really looks like they had to cut a lot of money in production as they still don;t feel like hanging on to the player... i love the denon players and i really think they have so many things in front of pioneer but sincerely i think you guys made a sloppy job in this review! (you can call it whatever it's still a sloppy job especially when you guys have the ability to do it... you have the gear sitting around)

Solid comparison. I recently purchased both the SC5000 and the X1800 mixer for the full Prime setup and its been an absolute dream to work with them.
The layering feature is by far the biggest advantage for true artists, especially in uptempo dance genres. It's literally two decks in one, so you no longer need the 3rd and 4th decks like you would with Pioneer. At this point, it's strictly a name preference (IMO) because clearly Denon has produced the better products (player AND mixer).

Our goal was to compare features that are important for pro dj's in club environments, dual layer is not relevant in that setting since multiple decks will be present. We agree it is a cool feature that would give it an advantage for home usage (same thing for the lower price tag) but we don't feel it is the same as two separate players.

Good review! I think it will be hard for the Denom to become a club standard, club Djs doesn’t need these pads like a controller to make effects because playing in a club is more about music selection and creating an atmosphere not making slicer or roll effects where on CDJs the effects are on the mixer which is usually Pioneer too

@@djschoolamsterdam6475 I disagree, since your using digital files it doesn't matter about multiple decks what matters is multiple channels,so the ability for dual channels from 1 machine is a big plus at home or club/gig and four channels from two decks is even better.

DJ SCHOOL AMSTERDAM check out other reviews on this topic, because yours is uninformed.
No one is saying that a club DJ would only be using one unit for a performance. And last I checked, I have not seen anyone playing with their feet.
The only reason anyone would want 4 CDJs in the booth is to show off. This should be standard on all modern players.

After several months I still prefer the Pioneer Series. Prime SC5000 doesn't sound as good as the Pioneer 2000 NXS2. Denon SC5000 has a high frequency roll off. This is proven fact not opinion. Quantize on the Pioneer 2000 NXS2 is more accurate than the SC5000. Denon X1800 has more horsepower than the DJM 900 NXS2 but it's suited more for Techno music. The effects also are weak in comparison to the Pioneer 900 NXS2. I'd bet big money that DJM 900 NXS2 owners wouldn't trade their mixer for the Denon X1800 either.
