@@joeprice6485 Oh please, everyone knows that when someone refers to an "American" we're referring to someone who lives in the USA. Stop trying to make it something it's not.
I au paired in Rome last September without knowing a WORD of Italian. I was shit scared but also found it totally liberating just walking around not understanding everyone's conversations!!! You'll have an amazing time, people are friendly and helpful and you'll learn bits and pieces of the language along the way!!!! xxx
I know how you feel, two years ago, when I was 15, I moved from Berlin, Germany to England for a year without my parents. I didn't know anybody there and just regarded it as an adventure and opportunity to grow. It turned out to be the best year of my life, even though the beginning was really rough. Keep going and no matter what happens during your stay, it's part of the experience. Lots of love from Berlin! ❤️
The thing about being in Europe, is you have to just dive into the culture and lifestyle of which ever country you're in. Start learning common phrases, learn what certains sign posts mean, or learn a coffee shop order in German, just little things like that. They appreciate people trying, and will engage with you more and help you more when they see the effort you are going to, to "fit in". I hope things pick up for you soon. You can have such a wonderful time if you just throw yourself into it. Life is all about learning OXOX
I have so much respect for you! It's not easy leaving a life you love for something so different. But imagine even just a year from now, you'll be so grateful for this experience! I'm sure you'll learn and grow so much:)! I so enjoy keeping up with you. You're doing great!!:)
I am a German former au pair in New York . I know your feeling just too good . Loneliness is a constant very powerful feeling in the first couple of month . But it gets better . It gets far better . The "unknown" gets your home . It will be beautiful ! Trust me ! Thumbs up for you !
thanks for being honest about loving your life, and missing your home and then picking up everything and just moving across the country --- man I rly felt that when you said that 💛💛💛 thank you so much for sharing
Gosh I wish I could have watched your videos (this in particular) 4 years ago. I am from Germany and have been to Canada as an Au Pair and totally got overwhelmed with the new impressions and my thoughts and anxiety even though I never ever struggled with that before. I was always so confident with everything. The family was amazing and I had everything I could wish for but I ended up leaving earlier than anticipated and on sort of a bitter note. I just couldn't handle myself. Up to this day I wish I could go back and change something about it. Make the most of it, you got it right girl these feelings are natural and you just gotta roll with it :)
Would love for you to do a video where you talk more about how your feeling being in a completely new place and how your dealing with the home sickness. How is it living with a family that isn't your own ? Love your videos !!
I'm studying abroad in Scotland and I always say the best way to deal with homesickness is to keep yourself busy and to not think about it so much. Because in the end, what is 1 year of you life? Not that long - and it is full of incredible experiences so definitely worth it! Hugs, Laura xx
You got to just get on the train and go. I'm sure that one person will be able to point you in the right direction and if not maybe you end up in some backend town in Europe and lets be honest. That would also probably be an incredible vlog.
I went as an au pair to England and the first months were rough because everything was new and I missed home. But if the family is good you will love this experience! try to do as much things as you possibly can! even if you are scared to do them at first! Good luck!
I watched you before I moved to Germany 4+ years later I’m still here, I was an au pair for 6 months, and it’s so true everything you’re saying, so many emotions, I only had anxiety once I was there, mostly fear, but it went away and now I live alone here, and solo travel.
❤️❤️ just remember why you came here. If you decided to do this it must mean that you needed to experience something else, something that you didn't have in your life before, and that you want to find. Be strong 💪🏻
Briana, you NEED to download Duolingo onto your phone. It makes learning new languages SO EASY, trust me. I've used it for a long time to learn/brush up on Spanish, and will be using it to also learn German and whatever else I feel like! (There are so many languages on that app, it's ridiculous)! I think it would make you a lot more confident there, at least in the language aspect of things. I hope you get more comfortable over time 💫
I tried to learn German on duolingo, and it sucked :( i didn't learn anything from it. i speak fluent German now because i am an exchange student in Germany currently
Feelings with Bri is sweet. I fully and totally understand how strange it must feel in a strange new place but the sweet, warm, fun and sunny Southern Cali will still be there and so is Hawaii and all your friends. Honestly, I was a bit surprised of you leaving it since you seemed to fit in there so perfectly well but yes, just think of this new adventure as one big learning experience. You also have an advantage of speaking english as most people understand it and almost everywhere in the world there is signs posted also in english wherever you go. The first thing I always do when travelling to a new place is getting one VERY big & VERY detailed map to put on the wall to look at all the time to get more comfortable with the surroundings and other countries and cities around you. Then put marks on it how long a train ride takes to go to a certain destination. That way I always know where in the world I am and it is also a feeling of control.
Don't be afraid to start small! That will build up your confidence in traveling. Travel to other cities in Germany by train and by bus. Check out meetup.com in other cities and just decide to go for a weekend or some weekdays and check out those meetups. Also there's soooo many aupair groups on facebook. Your family may know other family's that have aupairs in your cities and the aupairs friends I made are still some of my closest friends today. The part about why did you leave--Honestly this is such a valuable piece of growing up. I used to have a super wide friend group as well until I left home on my first exchange. I don't regret it at all. The connections you make across borders and cultures will be invaluable. Sometimes you only realize this after you leave this experience.. Also if you have a good relationship with the family don't be afraid to connect to the parents. They know you're young and this is your first time and you can definitely talk to them about things or for advice. It always made me connection closer and feel like I was apart of the family. Lastly German will be so important! Are you going to take courses at the local VHS? I was an Aupair in Potsdam for 10 months and am actually moving to Tubingen for university next year! I just came across your channel. Please just hang in there and don't give up! years ago I've done what you're doing now just the other way. Went from Germany to the US as an au pair. the beginning was super tough, but things got better and better once I made friends and got to know the area. just give it some time :)

It's so interesting to see how you're getting a hang of things.. like to doors, the food, because for me it's totally normal as I live in Europe as well. But I guess that would be the same as well if I would go to America.. even the doors would be different 😄
It's crazy I've been an aupair in the US for almost a year now and I experienced the same feelings at the beginning as you. It's just sad because the community for AuPair's in the us is so much better than for AuPair's in Europe, at least what I heard. Here you just get to know people through monthly meetings, I assume you don't have that right?
This is my first week being au pair too. And I feel what is your feeling exactly. Aaaah.. At least I'm glad because I know I am not the only one Who feeling like this. It's really scared me, but I believe it's Just the begining feeling, isn't it?
awe I am sure it will get easier for you, I hope so and if not you can work some notice and go home, don't be sad😊 I do think it will get easier though, takes a bit of timexxx
I'm an Bavarian girl aupairing in Ireland. And by July I will have been here for 1 year. Enjoy the time abroad when you can live in disguise😄😉 before people get to know you. Try as much as you can, so find out what you really want to do in your life
I just found your channel and I'm really excited for your upcoming vlogs & videos! I'm from Germany and I'm going to the US for an exchange year soon so I'll probably feel similar.. Even though it may be hard right now, I believe you're gonna have a great time!
Dont be afraid. If you need help, just talk. Even though you don't understand german, most germans understand at least basic english. And they are friendly, even if sometimes we don't look that we are ;)
Hey! This is the first video that I've found of yours but I definitely plan on watching more, I'm 18 and Canadian but I'm going to Germany in September to be AuPair, what you were saying about just picking up and leaving everything behind, leaving your friends and all is what I'm fearing the most, I can't wait to see everything else that you've got to share, also I'm not sure if you already know this or not but my future host mom told me that there are Facebook groups to find other AuPairs in your city to help make friends and find people that would understand what you're going through and stuff
Haha I think its a real culture shock when we go (as English speakers) to a country where there's no english signage etc. Just don't be scared to ask people if they speak English. A lot do, especially if they're working in train stations and such. Google Translate is a great app to use too. :)
Hi Brianna. Are there any environmental incentives? From being in Europe. What is the temperature changes like? At your area of visiting. Is there any visible chemical trail spraying in the skies? Perhaps you can address my questions. In any from your future videos. From a visual. The architecture and environment in Europe. Is all very dreamie.
Perhaps that is the most valuable thing of your au pair time: to test your old life and perhaps appreciate it afterwards. But be warned. Life in germany can get really good if you stay longer.
Hi, just wanted to say that I know how you feel, at least I can imagine, I'll also start an au pair year in mid August and I'm already nervous n excited but make sure you take every opportunity to explore and to make a lot of new friends n I'm sure I'll end up havin an amazing time ! :) xx
this is going to be soooo good for you.... you dont really know what youre doing yet but it will feel so awesome soon i promise. I moved to London and didn't settle in and get friends until about three months... granted, they spoke English. ... but Germans speak some English right?
Thanks for the sharing ~i was graduated from university last year and now I am seeking a chance to go German for au pair-could u pls give me some recommendations how to start it
As a German, it's funny to see how you talk about windows. haha
dunkel blau grau Same for me, although I'm Dutch
Heyyy
Don't be scared! I'm from Germany and in Germany nearly everyone understands English. Just ask some younger people, I'm sure they can help you👍
Americans make me laugh about how they talk about Europe like its a country xD
Ya right it's so confusing, like u went to Germany? France? Croatia? Poland? Whatever. There's such a difference between west and east Europe lmao
America is also a continent... Face/Palm
We know it’s not a country lol. But from how she was talking I thinking she was more in awe that she was in another continent.

0:46-1:03 that's how it works for italian windows too
Ticket machines and the DB website also have English versions. :)
it's interesting how ur experience is! I am from Germany and I am an Au Pair in the US. so I understand ur irritation about the cheap ice cream
Hah your face when you were telling whoever that was about $5 ice cream
I'm sure it's gonna be alright!
awe your dad😊
Nice! I'm also an au pair and make travel videos as well. Enjoy Europe! 👍🌍 you need to visit Amsterdam this summer 😉

I Au Paired in America! Such a different experience!
Perhaps that is the most valuable thing of your au pair time: to test your old life and perhaps appreciate it afterwards. But be warned. Life in germany can get really good if you stay longer.
