- Lainey Wilson, a rising country music icon, reflects on her early years in Nashville where she lived in a camper trailer, facing the challenges of being an outsider. Despite countless obstacles, including the tragic loss of her mentor, Lainey wrote an astounding 4,000 songs during these early years, forging her resilience and dedication to her craft.
Lainey sits down to discuss her formative years in Nashville - from the unique experience of living in a camper, the deep sense of loneliness she felt, to the sheer determination that prevented her from giving up even when all odds seemed against her.

Lainey Wilson burst onto the country music scene in 2022 with her album Sayin’ What I’m Thinkin’. That year, she won Female Vocalist of the Year and Best New Artist at the CMAs. But for seven years before that, she struggled to make it in the high-pressure Nashville music scene. And before *that*, she was a kid from a tiny town in rural Louisiana with a dream of being a country star. She joins Guy to talk about how she handled the hard times, what she’s learned about the art of collaboration during the making of two acclaimed albums, and what defines her unique style, which she calls Bell Bottom Country.

Just discovered this by looking up more interviews of Lainey and I have to say it's so refreshing to see an interviewer who doesn't cut off their guests constantly and just lets them tell their stories. Seems like most people these days try to make it all about them, and not the guest they have on their show.

The interviewer keeps asking the same questions over and over, but it was one of the best interviews I've listened to/watched. I feel like I've gotten to know Lainey. The 'if you're going to be a dreamer, you better be a doer' is something I wished I'd heard put that simply earlier in my life, because I am a dreamer and it's easy to just live in the dream rather than live it out.
My grandson is 6 as soon as he hears Lainey sing he stops and he loves her so much 3:45

Lainey Wilson is one star I will defend til my death. “Things A Man Oughta Know” is a song that stood out to me when it was on a Spotify playlist of indie country/folk mixed with some Nashville music that fell off the beaten path, and I fell in love with it instantly. A year later, it was number one. And I thought, who the hell saw that one coming? Women in Nashville are going rogue against the norms, and I am gonna continue to be here for it. Lainey is a huge catalyst.

I'm from India and recently moved to Lynchburg, VA. I love the culture here, especially in the country. One of my colleagues sound like her. I first heard Lainey on radio and thought she was Miley but thought no, Miley's content is crazy, this is real deal. I soon searched for her and found her. Lainey is a great artist and a great soul. WOW! I live 20 or 25 minutes from where she was raised and I never heard of her until now. Cool to listen to this and hear about her story. If I ever get the chance to meet Lainey I would make I would give you one of my eagle, globe, and anchors from when I was on active duty. I’m just a girl from Montana who grew up on Barbara Mandrell and watched stars like Reba come from an opening act to who she is now. For a time I was a part of Nashville. Worked CRS and other shows. I was there when Sugarland got a standing ovation when they were starting out. Now I have seen you, Jelly Roll, Luke Combs, and Hardy. By far this is a very talented part of country music and I hope you keep moving on up. Lainey is giving girls and women a voice back on country music.
