- Lainey Wilson has become one of the biggest superstars in all of country music, racking up hits like "Heart Like A Truck," "Things A Man Oughta Know," and "Watermelon Moonshine" - not to mention a plum role on Yellowstone - but it was a LONG journey to success. This video is my attempt to chronicle the Louisiana native's path to becoming a country powerhouse.

She was an opening act at a music festival I went to last year. During her set, the weather went from nice to lightning and tornado warning. They had to shut down the festival. But even though they forced her band off stage, she stood out there in the pouring down rain and sang Heart Like a Truck a cappella so that her fans would get to hear it. Nothing but respect for her for that.
That makes me love her even more!

What a great summary of the force that is Lainey Wilson. I love her and her music and have a huge admiration of her. What a grafter she is, what a long way she has come- but you know what- she’d still be a good laugh to be at the pub with on a weekend- I hope she never loses that down to earth humility, as I respect her so much for it! I was lucky enough to be in the Glasgow crowd on Friday when the video she’s posted on her Fb and instagram happened. I’ve got the video from where I was, it no idea how to post it on her, so just go to her page and you’ll see- Glasgow- 19th April. I feel so blessed to have shared that moment with Lainey, her team, everyone in the room! It was amazing- as was the whole night!!! Go and get it now, atta girl (but please also take care of you as you do so.)

The first time I became aware of Lainey Wilson was her duet with Hardy. Her voice as well as her look in "Wait in the Truck" gave me goosebumps, and I have been a super fan ever since. Love everything about her, but her kindness and humility put her over the top. She has earned, and well deserves every bit of success!
Lainey is true country coming from her heart and soul and the way she was raised - no phony put on- she is a young Loretta and Dolly. We love her for being who she is!!!

I’m from Weaver Alabama a little small rural town where we only have 2 dollar general stores multiple farms and a Walmart about 15 minutes down the road in another little town, but I say all that because when I hear Laniey Wilson talk about her hometown, she reminds me of my hometown. She reminds me of some of my friends that I went to high school with went to football games on a Friday night with, played volleyball with. she just gives you that hometown feel and she let’s you know that it’s OK, to like country music no matter who you are. I love all kinds of music and I love how Laniey gives you that Hometown feel. I really admire her as an artist songwriter and she has an incredible voice.❤

I came across Lainey Wilson opening for Ashley McBryde a few years ago and wad WAY impressed - I even looped around to catch her again.
Great voice, Great songs, and she works her ass off. (Well... maybe not literally, butvit didn't hurt any that she's a looker - i SURE DIDN'T delete any of my Lainey pics from the shows i caught. LOL)
Overall, she's mire than deserving of all she accomplished and i look forward to seeing her have a long & stong career arc

My favorite songs from Miss Lainey are Heart Like a Truck, as well as Wild Flowers Wild Horses. She is a real treasure in country music, she is amazing. Very beautiful and sings like an angle, I always enjoy hearing her music blasting in my truck going down the road! She's a pistol for sure!

Lainey is my favorite musician right now and shows the American dream playing out before our eyes and I feel I am part of her rise to fame also, having learned about her a while ago and tracking all that she has accomplished. I think that the Highway Station on XM radio had a tremendous amount of effect on her career also, they have done a great job of profiling and playing music from lesser-known, or even unknown musicians and they helped promote her greatly. Go team Lainey.
Many of the things you said make me like her. She also reminds me of a retired coworker/close friend and Lainey is basically how I envision my friend when they were younger as far as interests, personality, etc. I told my friend this she knew of her from yellowstone and she said the same thing. Maybe just early but she seems down to earth more than the big stars and all the stuff they do mansions, etc.

I was there in Charlotte when she opened for Luke Combs and her bands equipment got struck by lighting and she had to do a completely acoustic set in a stadium. Truly amazing to hear an acoustic set in a venue that big.
I don't doubt that she said that but I have a hard time believing it. When was her band's equipment struck by lightening and how many lightening strikes was it? Bands use a lot of equipment and it's all easily replaced.

I worked on Music Row for quite a few years during the 90's country music boom, and I wasn't even into country. But, man, Lainey's been killin' it. And she's right, that's exactly what it takes, putting in the hard songwriting work. It's all about the songs, and she's proven that. The song craft on her latest album is off the charts. Proud of her. Thanks for this walk through, I was so curious about her journey.

Things a Man Oughta Know was on the same EP as Dirty Looks...It took SiriusXM a year to notice Things..., and Country Radio another year to play it

Got to see Lainey while she was on tour with Hailey Whitters and Jon Pardi and that was a pretty awesome show. I feel like the title track of Sayin' What I'm Thinking is one of the most underrated songs out there
I wanted to be a rock star, but I was married with kids, music changed, I wanted to be a country star.. Along the way I realized I wasn't very good... I changed to song writer, but would never be able to make it in L.A. or Nashville.. You tube is as close I will get to being a star.... Just announced as part of the night concert series at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
I knew of her from the Hardy collaboration but only really started checking for her after people were mad she won Entertainer of the Year over Morgan. I was honestly so confused as to why she keeps sweeping awards over my faves so I gave her a listen and wow! Her music is amazing. I hope she keeps getting the recognition she deserves.

Lainey Wilson is the perfect country music artist! Her voice is a combination of Dolly, Reba and Lainey! Her style is off the charts! Her country girl accent is quite adorable! Lainey is the real deal!! We saw her at the 2024 awards this past week and she was absolutely amazing! God has blessed this young lady and she has really proven herself to be worthy of it all! ❤️

You don't have to be a country music fan to love Lanie Wilson she'll bring you in to loving country music by her authenticity by her energy and by her story and but mostly just by listening to her music regardless or not of loving country music I just love her music I guess it's something about the stories in it it's about the truth in it and it's about the giggle in it also it covers the what would you call it the opposites that exist in our lives and how we overcome them

I think Lainey Wilson is very talented, my favorite of her is Watermelon Moonshine. I liked Heart Like a Truck too and still do, but my local country station ran that song into the ground.

Wow, that was a great video! I appreciated the amount of research you put into this. Top notch channel right here. I saw her as a second opener (before Dierks and Chris Janson) last year when she was arguably a headliner at that point. But I get it, she probably fit that spot in the lineup when she was booked; just shows how fast she rose.

Cody couldn’t even attempt to fake that kinda of energy. Not even when I saw him ten years ago, when the opening band was 1000x better.
Saw her last August as the 3rd opener to Luke Combs and Riley Green. Less than half the stadium crowd had filled in yet, but she might’ve gotten the biggest ovation of the night after she sang ‘Heart Like A Truck’. Truly wild to see her meteoric rise.

I first became familiar with Lainey Wilson from Yellowstone(Tyler Childers and Whiskey Meyers too), when "Watermelon Moonshine" was released last summer I was like "Hey! I've heard this song before, and so I looked back on Yellowstone season 5 and there she is as Abby singing a snippet of it. She, along with Megan Moroney are my currently favorite female mainstream artists(Sierra Ferrell would be my absolute favorite).
Lainey performed ‘Strawberry Wine’ once and her voice was just enchanting. That’s one of my favorite songs and her unique voice and vocal control is just extraordinary.

This woman is the real deal
Being from Australia, Lainey Wilson (and country music as a whole) isn't really widespread yet. Sure, you have the occasional group of people that listen to it, but there's no billboards with Luke Combs on them, no magazines with Lainey Wilson etc. In fact, I've only heard a handful of "country" songs being played in public venues and Morgan Wallen is about as country as those songs get.
That being said, the internet really is a great tool for discovering music world wide and Lainey has mastered that. From dueting with people on TikTok, to featuring in Yellowstone, she is really trying to put herself out there and it's working like a charm!
