    Lovely artwork! I love the layering in actual layers! ;-) As to the moose and elk discussion: Here is a good article on the European elk naturetravels.wordpress.com/2007/10/29/what%E2%80%99s-the-difference-between-a-moose-and-an-elk/ In another article I read that the American elk, which is a large deer, is very shy and that even the wild moose are not running from humans. That's quite amazing to me. Imagine meeting up with one of these gentle giants!

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for the article! It was so interesting! I'm going to pin this comment so that everyone can see it :)
      I would love to see the moose in Poland! As you've said, they seem to be quite happy to see humans or maybe just mildly interested xD They definitely don't run away, which I find fascinating. Perhaps we are not wolf-shaped enough for them to get scared :P

    • @ChrissieNicely
      @ChrissieNicely 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha! Most of us are definitely not wolf shaped! I think that is the answer! The down side being, that moose get killed for being mistaken for elks in the US. At least this is what I read in another article. :-(

    My 4 and 5 year old nieces insisted they watched the whole video with me on the TV because this was just way too cool for a mobile screen. I agreed with them! Whimsy and bliss captured so creatively.

      Aww, that is so sweet! Please say hi to your nieces for me and tell them that they made my morning really happy

    I've seen a moose once. I was walking our dog on a hill in Central Finland (at our summer cottage) and suddenly I heard something from the bushes and this huge moose came out and ran across the sand road and into the forest on the other side. Me and the dog both just stood and stared.
    Your painting looks so cool, when it's assembled together! Love the texture on the trees and the little islands the trees stand on. :)

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, such a magical encounter! When you think about it, it's just an animal of course, but we are not used to seeing them often, so it's magical :D

    Soooo.... I may already have some sketches of a unimoose :p hahaha You know I love moose, and I was toying with the idea for my Color Spotlight episode for burnt umber! We shall see. Funnily enough, reindeer are actually REALLY small compared to elk and moose. I was stunned the first time I saw one in person! Anyway, this is another stunning piece Anita! Thanks so much for continuing to grace us with your pieces!

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unimoose!! xD I can't wait to see it! I would love to see moose painted by you because I feel like when you paint you really SEE the animal (if you know what I mean, it's hard to explain) and it's something that I still struggle with. I would love to see the real moose. We are planning a trip to Poland soon and I'm trying to squeeze in some moose "hunting" because it seems that fall and winter months are the best time to see them in the Biebrza National Park.

    Wow Anita! 😃 This is fantastic. Everything about this piece just really came together. I do love that you include a story with the pieces. I realky wish my brain would relax about doing illustrations every now & again. That detail side of my brain just kicks in and says nope you are doing it wrong. 😉 I'm working on a way to do both. Beautiful job, Anita... thanks for sharing! 🤗

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's really hard to let go of that detailed, more technical side of the brain, isn't it? I'm actively trying to loosen up my art, but very often I have to remind myself, saying it aloud, "don't overthink, just trust yourself and paint". I'm seeing real improvement in the last couple of months and painting doesn't stress me out so much anymore xD I loved that you've included some legends and folklore in your video. I still think about it >

    I’m so excited to be in this radical and totally righteous team!! ❤️ ❤️ everyone is so amazing and welcoming and delightful. Truly, this has been a wonderful adventure.
    Your moose reminds me a bit of the forest spirit from Princess Mononoke and that makes me love it even more. ❤️ I think we both have the same problem where we love animals, but are inspired by making them wacky or magical. I’m delighted to have a cartoony and illustrative companion in this collective. =^.^=
    Love love LOVE all your layering, and I’m so glad you’re exploring this style more lately because it’s so cool and really adds dimension to the piece in a clever way.

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking about the Forest God from Mononoke as well, especially when I'm adding those swirly antlers to the ghost. I mean, no wonder. I worship Ghibli and Miyazaki's creations xD
      And I agree completely! We are balancing the hyper-realism in the name of animal conservation!!! For me, it's the shape, color, and magic in the animals what inspires me. I think if I lived a couple of hundred years ago I would be that weird lady that lives in the forest, talks to animals and ends up burnt at a stake eventually even though she's not a witch, she just tried to convince the neighbors that the deer in her forest are really undercover elves. Yup.

    An elk and a Moose is not the same thing, they are from the same family species but they are different animal with their own behavior, but it's like saying nile crocodile and american crocodile are the same.

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I meant that in America it's called Moose while in Europe and Asia, the same animal is called Elk, while in America elk is something completely different. So this particular moose I'm painting is a subspecies of moose, actually called Eurasian Elk :)

  • @selbarton
    @selbarton 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Um, we have elk too. Moose and elk are 2 different species. My uncle was obsessed on the differences. Europe uses elk for moose and wapiti for the elk. (Wapiti is said to be due to a mistake in naming.) Europe also considers the US elk red deer (same species).
    Leshy is said to be surrounded by wolves or bears from what I recall. He was originally thought to dispose of those adults in his forest. (Both the godlike concept and the multiple spirits called Leshy more like fairies in concept.) It was also said he abducted the children that came into his forest. (I focused more on Leshachikha who can shift in the Slavic tales since I tend to name things after mythological women, so the Leshy side is far more limited in my knowledge.) But most cultures have a variant of spirit animals or shifters that protect nature since that was a societal/religious construct to keep people believing there is a life altering, spiritual consequence to destroying what they needed to survive since people tend to be horrible about remembering self preservation comes heavily from nature's providing all they truly need.

    •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Um, we (in Europe, as I'm European) consider Moose and Elk to be the same. Both names are used for the same animal as far as I know. That's why I said it was funny, because in America Moose and Elk are different animals. Different types of moose will differ, of course, but this is not a biology class but an art video :)
      And yes, you are right about Leshy as well. The original didn't fit my idea, though. That's why I love art. I can change anything I want to fit the story in my painting~
