    Cool video Man. I was 18 in 1996 and remember them on the dealership floor. Once I started making money I bought a red 96 ss 6 speed. Kept it for 12 years sold it and bought a white 96 ss 6 speed. Now I'm 46 and bought a black 96 ss 6 speed convertible. The interior never bothered me I just love the overall appearance and driving experience! So yes I love the 96 97 SS camaros

    I was msotly a Mustang guy but I loved this era of cars and battling it out at the drag strips. The SS cars were always formidible. I just bought an R33 GT-R. I never thought I would own a JDM car but it's my daily driver for now in Japan. It is one of a few cars I've owned that I always have to look back at when I park. Keeping an open mind on cars means you can experience a lot of fun and different driving experiences.

      I was almost too big for it. Man that car was a blast to drive! Except in snow or high cross winds, the. It became a terrifying game of “guess where you’re gonna end up”, while going all over the road. It ended up needing more work than I had time to do and a young mechanic really wanted it so basically gave it to him. It’s been about 14 years and I still see him driving it from time to time. He’s always smiling.

    I really wanted to own one of these. Tried to buy a black, 6 speed ‘99 SS that, had some “factory and dealer upgrades”, but I was going through a divorce and I couldn’t get it. I tried the route of putting it in my dad’s name or doing a co-sign with him but GM finance wouldn’t go for it; and local lenders didn’t want to give a 25 year old, future divorcee an load for a sports car. I ended up with a ‘89 iroc-z, 5.7l with T-tops.

    The 96 Camaros esp with 1LE package was a beast for its time. Finally stiffened up to allow a 350 cu/in motor in t tops instead.of 305's. Almost 3 decades ago now so not equal to todays super muscle cars, but to put it in perspective when this car came out imagine how far it was from a 1966 car 3 decades before '96. It was like futuristic cutting edge engineering having 300 HP able to handle twisties, OD for freeway speeds, and CD, AC, decent quarter mile times after the disgusting 70s and 80s 150 HP motors. Never a Camaro fan but friends and family had tons of them. Really was a high watermark vehicle at the time.

    Had a '96 Z28, and i loved that car. Mine had pretty much everything on it except t-tops. The previous owner had put the SLP exhaust on it, and it did sound amazing. Every parking lot i pulled into, people would look to see what it was. The car felt way stronger than the 285 horsepower it was rated. The transmission in mine was pretty smooth for a 4L60E, but it eventually gave up the ghost at 125k and i sold it a year later bc i couldn't afford to fix it due to other financial obligations. Im looking to find one now as a fun weekend car, but its hard to find one in my area that isnt ratty.

    I have a bright red '96 RS, and have been down those very same roads you've cruised here. You're very connected to the road in these, and even when it feels like it's about to disconnect around the corners, it still has a way to go.
    As far as the squeaks go, I solved most of mine with a little bit of butyl rubber tape. I'm 6' and to be comfortable, I have to adjust the seat to a bit more of a reclining position than I had in any other car I've driven other than vette's.
    I've been pulled over by the WRPS on at least a half dozen occasions, for no other reason than the car's flashiness. She's been "sitting" for 12 years now, for similar reasons to your father's, but I still keep her fresh. By far the most fun car I've owned

    The SLP exhaust was an option as well as the Torsen led. The standard exhaust was the Z28 and the standard lsd was the GM mechanical gov lock. There were about 5 or 6 SLP options. I can't remember them all. The exhaust, Torsen and a hurst shifter for the 6spd and I believe suspension and performance tires which came with 4extra rims. When these were new they had two window stickers. The GM Z28 sticker and a smaller SLP sticker. The SLP one had the SS performance options. All for 96-97 SS. In 98 I believe GM switched production to in house.

      @@RomVlad These will eventually be very sought after. I sold them new and the majority of the dealer’s inventory of Corvettes were autos equipped with the LT1 for the 96 model year. Out of the 20 or so 96’s we had there was one Grand Sport on the showroom along with the dealerships owner’s ex-demo which was a competition yellow convertible LT4 car on custom HRE wheels and maybe 2 more various colors on the. They are not there yet but at some point this will be the hot car in the future. The weirdest color combo with most unique option combo will definitely be rare. I’d love to get my hands on a C4 Callaway twin turbo Corvette. They are kind of starting to get more expensive but for the longest time they had to be the deal of the century. Less money than a C4 ZR1 but far less common. I just recently realized that there were some 1997 LT4 Firehawk’s built too. I had no idea.

    I have an 01 4th Gen camaro catfish convertible with the 3.8 and automatic. I love the thing and it makes a great daily driver. Good mpg and highway drivability and ride quality. Once got caught in a snow storm and had an inch of snow on the roads. I drove home from work that day carefully and I can't believe it did so well. Also I think my tire and rim package and ASR helped with that. Next day we had many inches of snow and I attempted to move the car out of the way to plow my driveway. I figured there's no way this car is gonna drive through this. I'd be damned it did it with no wheel spin and didn't think twice. I'm like " That's not how this is supposed to work. That's not how any of this is supposed to work". lol But it did. My Camaro is not in perfect condition but it's my daily which is better over using my truck as a daily. Bought mine on the cheap back in 2018 and it was a impulse purchase but I'm glad I didn't pass it up. Fixed a bunch of things on it too so it's better than when I got it.

  • @JCMusicwriter
    @JCMusicwriter 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    That's a great car. I have a 97 6-speed in similar condition, came with the window sticker and all the paperwork from SLP, the floor mats, the car cover, etc. I really want to find a teal car. The Automatic SS don't seem to sell as well as the 6-speeds but the color of that car is what makes it special. The 1996-1997 SS were much lower production than the 1998-2002 SS. They made 2,410 in 1996 and 3,038 in1997. They made around 12,000 SS in 2002 alone. The96-97 were the only cars with the functional Ram Air because it turned out the air filter doesn't like to get wet.
    That may not be a 6-speed but its 1 of 77 Teal Metallic cars which is a highly desirable color. Even someone uptight about the transmission would consider a Teal car. Teal was 1996 only as well. I believe its the most rare SS color. You may have not gotten the Z28 SS floor mats as that was an option which would be listed in the passenger door jam or the SLP window sticker
    When these came out they were top dog on the street. Right out of the showroom they would flatten Mustangs or anything else. These got lumped in with Grand Nationals and Mustangs which were straight line cars but the IROCs could handle and the 4th Gens were world class handlers. The 1996 Camaro SS was also the quickest ever tested by Road and Track. First Camaro ever since 1967 to break 100mph trap speed out of the showroom. I like the 90s Japanese cars as well but they're so overpriced now. These cars and C4 Corvettes get overlooked because they were just so common. Even back in the day the only way you saw a MKIV Supra Turbo was in a magazine and then Fast and Furious created a new generation of enthusiasts.
    Don't sleep on the American 90s cars though. The interiors in everything was cheap back then but cars were also much more affordable. You want everything wrapped in leather and alcantara with German interior quality you're going to pay for it. A 1996 Z28 was like $18k brand new. Car companies now would rather make expensive cars than get slammed by reviewers for cheap interiors. The snobby reviewers got their way but you don't get something for nothing.
    These are also the last F-Bodies (shared platform with the Firebird). The newer Camaros are something removed from the past a bit and cancelled yet again as GM looks for a new path and turns its back on enthusiasts.

I Drove it from Dallas to Chicago several times a year comfortably. I had 2 Optispark die In irst 3 years. I have owned both 6 Speed and auto in this model car. The 6 speed was more fun but the auto was faster unless you really abused the 6 speed. The only reason I don't own one today is that the engine is hard to work on. Not horrible but I want to be able to pull an engine, you have to drop the whole front end to get the engine out.
    I recommend 93-02 Camaros for kids trying to get started in hot roding. They may need a lot of time but not much money to keep running.
    P.S. for my dayly drivers I like to buy 90's-2000's 4 cylinder Camrys with 150k miles and drive them to 300k. Over 30 MPH snd my total investment for cars and parts over the last 15 years was about $7000 about $40 a month. I am going to buy a 69 GTO with the money I saved by driving Camrys 😂

    I will agree newer cars although incredibly fast, have no soul. There's more to a car than it's specs on paper. I bought a 2022 GT500, dream purchase. Fastest car I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot of fast cars. It looked incredible too. What I didn't expect was how disconnected I felt driving it. It was a digital experience, rather than an analog one and that didn't sit well with me. The size and heaviness also didn't help.

    Makes me miss my 02 SS that I DD for many years. I traded it in on a 19 1SS 1LE, then on the same day that that high rise apartment collapsed in Fort Lauderdale some semi-truck hit my 1LE totaling it out.
    Yes GEN4 Fbody handling is a trip. They look like a car that would ride like crap, and beat you to death, but in stock forum, if your car came with the Delcrappo shock and not the Bilstein's (SLP cars) or Koni's (1LE) its ride is similar to say a Crown Vic. It's very plush, softly sprung, kind of floaty, and a lot of up and down suspension travel. When being pushed hard in a turn there's a lot of lean and body roll, and you're like, "holy crap, IDK if this car can take this corner going this fast," yet the car bites down and holds its line, and grips through the turn. No, it's not a C5 Z06, but a GEN4 Fbody will run with other cars from its era on a road course. I don't look at more expensive Japanese cars from its era like MKIV Supras, or 300 ZX, 3000GT/Stealth, etc and think that a GEN4 Fbody can't hang. It can absolutely maintain pace with these cars on a road course, if not outpace them, especially with some better brake pads, and DOT4 fluid. GEN4 Fbody is a very capable handling car with a few mods, and housing a 315 up front is not an issue for them. It does have a very good steering feel. Its steering wheel sucks, and is way too large in diameter, while the griping surface is too thin, but the feel is tight and responsive. Its layed down position, while looking over a long dash and hood is not ideal and makes the car feel bigger than it is, but the manual cars have a better shifter location than the SN95 cars had, but overall I preferred Mustangs ergonomics and outside visibility over Fbodys, but Fbody had a better chassis/suspension setup. The Fbody felt like it would be a crappy handling car, but then surprises you with how capable it's handling actually was, but a Foxbody/SN95 Mustang on the other hand felt like a competent handling car, but then out of nowhere it would let go and bite you on the arse hard. It's amazing for as much as things change, how much stays the same. Mustangs always had a better seating position, and its always had far superior outside visibility. (This is not just a GEN5/GEN6 Mustang/Camaro thing) Mustang has always been an easier car to live with on a day bases. Camaro's always had a superior, less budgeted chassis/suspension setup. Camaro's always been a car more geared to the hardcore performance enthusiasts that compromises other things to prioritize performance.

      Compared to my buddy's old MKIV Supra I'd agree, handling in stock form is pretty similar!

    • @CamaroAmx
      @CamaroAmx 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The handling isn’t bad. I disagree with the crown Vic handling. I have a 93 z28 and used to have a 94 v6 with the z28 suspension option. The v6 handled better (due to its lighter nose weight) but didn’t have the power to pull you out of a corner. My z28 handles just fine. I’ve driven dozens of crown Vics and even modern Camaros.

    • @JROC734
      @JROC734 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@CamaroAmx you're not taking the time to properly read what I said before commenting. I never said a GEN4 Fbody handled like a CV, I said it rode kind of like one. Point I was making in that a GEN4 Fbody looks like a hardcore muscle car that would ride poorly, but it's actually a pretty soft riding car that's somewhat underspung feeling with a lot of suspension movement. My 02 SS rode way nicer than my 03 Lightning, or 03 Cobra (which rides stiff, but not harsh like the L) and even my old 99 GT. BTW we used to have a 01 CV for several years. While in no way a sports car, many have hustled down a lot of fleeing cars on the road. My base (non SLP/non 1LE) 02 SS when stock definitely handled better than my moms 99 V6 Firebird, but LS1's are noticeably lighter than 350's.

      I gave my 1994 Z28 6-speed the full Sam Strano treatment with Koni yellow adjustable shocks . I think it would surprise most people with how competent it is on a road course and canyon roads . I also installed Kooks long tube headed with a catted y-pipe and a magnaflow cat back . Between the exhaust a K&N cold air intake and tune it’s a pretty fast fun analog car . I had one in grade 12 it was my second car after a 1995 mustang GT so the nostalgia kinda cool too . Upgraded the brakes to the LS1 front calipers with EBC rotors on all 4 corners and yellow stuff pads , makes a hugeeeee difference.
