    Thanks Dennis, I just picked up 3 of these. It’s so much easier once I’ve seen you do it. That takes the guesswork out of the job.

    I ended up using a BIC lighter very carefully to heat the pinion gear just enough to get it unstuck. After that it was smooth sailing and the reel now functions perfectly. Like your example here the reel had no visible trace of lubrication. I really appreciate being able to look up your videos to see exactly what I am about to fix. BIG THANKS!

    I bought a TR100 back in the mid '80's and have used it very heavily livelining for stripers. It has always performed flawlessly! My model, however, has a tensioning knob between the star drag and the reel handle. Increasing the tensioning knob varies the range of drag on the star. I find it very useful, but it seems they discontinued it....Can you shed any light on this?
    Your excellent videos have helped me rebuild/service several reels now. Thank you so much!!

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If you can grab the mount from the outside of the case, invert the arm so that it fits on the end of the eccentric that comes through he case. Turn it until it holds steady, about half way, and then reverse the arm to set it properly - Dennis

    Your videos are very helpful Dennis. I have a 100gt that doesn't level wind, the worm looks ok but if I press down on the pawn it will start going a little. Would the pawn be the problem or is there suppose to be a pin in the cap that pushes down on the pawn making it level wind? If so do you know where I can find parts? Thank you very much!

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you have a broken pawl or a bad track in the worm gear.
      Check with Southwesternparts.com or ereplacementparts.com for a replacement pawl

    This reel is the stuff legends are made of. I hear this smaller sized reel is more looked for than it's bigger brother.
    Question, why was that one washer blue? Was it plastic or metal?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are versatile and the smaller one fits lakes and piers without loading a lot of line. The odd washer in the stack is a hard washer. They are all treated the same. Seem some manufacturers include the "propriety" washer to make their reel unique - Dennis

    Great video and thank you I did 2 reels 200G but one is now hard to turn. I tried taking apart again and loosen screw it will free up but as soon as I just snug it gets hard again any ideas?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's hard to say without seeing the reel, but you have an advantage here. You have one that works and one that is tight. You can swap parts until you narrow the cause. For example: Take the side gear side plate off of both reels and switch them to the other reel. Is the one still tight, or did the one that was working become tight? If the problem moved with the side plate, then that is where you need to look. If the problem remained with the spool and case, then that is where you need to look. - Try that. Dennis

    I lost one of the bearing shield washer what would happen to the reel . Would it still function fine and what should I look out for I have one on top of the handle and then used one drag washer at the bottom

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be OK. TH shield/shim keeps grease and oil in the bearing, but it also helps align the main gear to operate properly. If you hear a grinding from mis matched gears or feel a slip, then you would need to get another one. In the meantime, I think you should be fine - Dennis

    Hi,which side do you take it apart if you want to take out the level wind guard!

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to take off both side plates, as there are attachments to each side of the frame - Dennis

    I'm trying to service one of these for a friend. The spool release lever will not release. I took it apart and found the problem. The pinion gear is stuck on the spool shaft. I am afraid to use heat given the frame material. and the fact that the spool is it's prisoner.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  ปีที่แล้ว

      Heat is usually the answer. You need to unbolt the entire gear side including the lever and push the assembly through to free the spool. Once the spool is out, you can apply heat to the pinion gear, That should help get it free

      @@2ndChanceTackle, if this was a Penn conventional that would be the easy solution. The built-in pillars that the yoke rides on prevent that.

    can't find any of these new or used anywhere :( could you suggest a good alternative reel?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These reels are 20+ years old so your only alternative is the used market place. Try Ebay, Craig's list, Facebook marketplace, local fishing flea markets as well as tag sales and thrift shops/pawn shops. It will be hit or miss, so check frequently - Dennis

    thank you for these wonderful instructional videos, could you answer a question please, i have a TLD star- 20/40 the spool bearing is very sloppy but seems pressed on is there a trick to getting it off the stainless shaft. thanks again.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That bearing in not pressed on. It is most likely frozen from rust or wear. it will need to be replaced. My first suggestion is to soak the bearing with a penetrating oil, like WD40 or Liquid Wrench and let it sit for a while. Then I would use a small pliers and try to rock the bearing back and forth to free it. If that doesn't do it, I would try to heat the bearing so that it expands off of the shaft. Apply heat to the bearing for about 30 seconds using a plumbers propane torch and watch for the perpetrating oil to bubble. That should show the movement. Next grab the bearing with a pliers - remember, it is hot, and rock back and forth to free it. Good luck - Dennis

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. It should be tight, so a mild polish OK, but don't get aggressive. Try some oil to help. The trick here is that it has to go on true, no tilt. Try a closed end wrench to keep equal pressure on all sides as you push down - Dennis
