  • After changing your fuel filter or any fuel line maintenance, you will need to bleed air out. Pretty simple process unless you are Service Guy At Gainesville Kubota

    The dealership at Gainsville just wanted you and everybody to bring their tractors in to be worked on just so they can charge an arm and a leg for that service charge and their over priced parts. See if the customers work on their own tractors, that's a ton of money they missed out on. All dealerships and repair shops that repair everything everything made in the world from weed wackers to old used cars, to diesel trucks or tractors. They loose lots of money by over charging people for those parts and service time because people people are tired of getting ripped off and learning how to fix their own stuff on the internet. By the way, we all appreciate you and all the others that make how to videos. Your videos really help , thanks and keep'um coming. 😀

    As a life long professional mechanic ( retired now ) I could leave a ton of comments on all your mechanical videos . You Rick don't need that , you're already well on your way with your ability to figure it out using applied logic and if that fails you know who to contact for the answer you're seeking . For an ex cop you're doing good quality work .

    My dad ran the diesel fuel out of his Kubota L3130
    This Worked perfectly
    Found the ‘button’ lefty loosey, cranked the engine, bled the air off, and it started, righty tighty on the button ….done
    Fixed it in seconds.

    Rick, You did damn good. This video will help a bunch of Kubota L-Series tractors. I have a little BX and for some reason, not sure why, but I have never had an issue with air in the fuel line when I change the fuel filters. But I did have an issue with a clogged fuel filter. As I said, there are two fuel filters on the BX, one in the engine bay land one under the tractor above the mid mount mower. And like most guys, I did not read the manual. The dealer did not hesitate to help me fix the problem. But I am lucky to have one of the best Kubota tractor dealers in my opinion, Messicks. I did have an issue with one of the sales guys. He didn't want to help me because I was looking at sub-compact implements and he doesn't "waste" his time on low commission products. Oh well. Enjoy the Journey - Cheers

    Injector pump and plugged fuel htank!!
    Boy, what an education in owning diesel vehicles!!
    Lately, I encountered on my Kubota BX23s with 2750 hours, power dropping off, then followed by a 95% power loss to barely get back to barn at idle speed. Already went through the plugged fuel lines issues before the first gas filter. FIXED that by installing a "Brass T" accessible at the side of the floor plate, then continue on to first filter with new fuel line. Added 4" of line to the THIRD BARB of the T, with a bolt to plug the short line. So, when the filter seems plugged, I clamp off T-line to filter siide and use the air compressor to blow backward up into the TANK WITH FUEL CAP LOOSENED Replace bolt line, unclamp main line, and away you go.
    Then this later quit working for power loss!! So research suggested injector pump going bad! After a great loss of time, I was told to pour water on the injector pump to cool it when it had loss of power. BINGO!!!! Just to cool back the internal parts a bit, power resumed to normal!! It was good for about 20-30 minutes until it got hot again, so another short cool 😢water bath and all was good.
    Found a new pump at 50% cost on an auction!! $431 beats $895 !!!
    Still love my Ku

    Thank you I’m new to tractors and how they cannot self prim. I called the place that sold it to me brand new and they say I probably burnt up something and to bring it in. I told them I ran it out of fuel and it won’t start after filling Not one person said oh just bleed the line and should start. It was an entire conversation how it must be brought in and fixed. Sad many shops do this.

    As far as I know you can leave your engine running when you close the air bleed. Not all diesel engines have an air bleed so what I sometimes do is to crack all the injector lines at the top. When the engine starts I close them one at a time as I see no more bubbles coming out. I can't see where closing that while the engine is running should hurt anything. If anything, it'll be better so as not to have air getting back in there if it's open while the engine is off.

  • @JoeC88

    0:28 is a fuel sedimentor, it is designed to trap water / dirt etc. When a large stick rides up & snaps it off your tractor stops ☹ In tough conditions put a guard around it.
    * FILL the sedimentor up with diesel after removing & cleaning out & just before reinstalling. This will help with bleeding the fuel system. Diesel fuel systems DO NOT like air trapped in the fuel lines.
    * Ensure you fuel tank cap seal is good, don't get water into any machines fuel system, always use clean fuel.
    * When replacing the diesel fuel filter fill the new one up with diesel fuel before installing. Also do this with your oil filter (even just about half full with an oil filter) or at least say pour about 8 ounces of oil into a horizontally fitted oil filter before installing.

  • @garmancathotmailcom
    @garmancathotmailcom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    At least it was easy. Running a diesel out of fuel can cost you a couple hours of bleeding in some machines. If you want to be extra nice to your diesel tractor, change the oil every 100 hours instead of whatever it says in the manual.

  • @comlbbeau

    See if you can either get your hands on the appropriate owner's manual or download one. It is an excellent resource to guide you through what maintenance is required at specific intervals, and each procedure is referenced to a page number that lists each step. My engine is similar for my MX4700, and for bleeding the fuel system it simply says: open the air vent cock on the fuel injection pump (the "button" thingy you mentioned), start the engine and run for about 30 seconds then stop the engine, close the air vent cock. Voila! Shame on the Gainesville guy who should have known this simple fix, but wouldn't share.

    As a backup you can always loosen the fittings where the fuel lines connect to the injectors and crank the engine until you see fuel coming out of all the lines then tighten them and it should fire off pretty quick.

    • @HeyGunPeople
      @HeyGunPeople  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I saw a vid on that and then I read don't ever loosen those fittings since the engine runs at high pressures

    • @elizabeth_williams
      @elizabeth_williams 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HeyGunPeople correct new diesel engines are designed to run upwards of 24000-36000 psi at the injector heads. Fuel is atomized having air introduced at that pressure will literally detonate in the injector causing a critical failure of the injector porting if that happens you're gonna end up having to pull the piston and rings refacing(boring or sleeving) the cylinder wall

    • @davidwright2706
      @davidwright2706 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be true for a common rail fuel system, which you don't have. You only need to crack the fittings about a quarter turn. The injectors won't open because there is insufficient pressure, takes 1500 to 2000psi to open them. A small amount of fuel will leak down the side of the injectors but that's all, done this hundreds of times never failed me.

    Think of giving repair advice the same way you would think about giving advice on somebody's horse problem. The outcome is the same.
    People used to call and ask the "What's wrong with my car" questions. I'd just ask them what was wrong with my girlfriend this morning. They'd say they didn't know what was wrong with my girlfriend. Well....... It's like your car, the problem could be a dozen different things and I can't tell you until I've had the chance to see your car.
    If you're a friend I'd give you some help but as a cold call from someone I didn't know ....... not so much.

      @@HeyGunPeople ,
      I'm just relating the experience from the other side of the phone call. It's in that category of "No good deed goes unpunished." When you try to help someone then you're on the hook for what the did or didn't understand, what they did or didn't tell you etc.
      I'd never be the one to tell you that you were wrong in your assessment of the situation because I wasn't on the call. Too many in the service businesses are wankers with zero people skills.
      I've had comments disappearing lately. Seems to happen every time YT redesigns the site, which they've been doing again. So...... no issues there, Rick. Wasn't me and it wasn't you ........ it's just the YT Gods.
