Very helpful. Thanks. I haven't seen many vloggers being upfront about the costs so this was very helpful for planning purposes and also to make an educated decision as to whether its financially worth it. Thanks 😊
Ah oops! I see you did watch these! You’re welcome! I hate people who are super vague and useless. Glad to help! Feel free to ask me any questions if you are concerned about specific financial aspects.
thank you for watching! I’m glad I could help! this year is especially stressful for all you waiting! Please check out my next video (coming this week) to know more about the predecessor situation! I’m going to explain what’s happening here in Japan!
Thank you for watching! I’m going to make more jet content throughout this year, more about what to expect and funny stories and interviews so please subscribe! Good luck on your application. Any year but this year will be better.
Super helpful, thank you so much! 🥰 I'm moving to a small city near Kyoto, don't have any contact with my predecessor or BoE yet so it's great to see your videos to get an idea of how much money I need to save up!
I don’t personally know many jets in Kyoto? But as I’m now in a bed-town between Kyoto and Osaka, I can tell you for a smaller city in this area you may even get lucky with the low end of the spectrum. The only downside to Kyoto is I’m going to guess most housing is on the older side. We wanted to living in Kyoto city but everything was so much older and more expensive than living outside osaka. But the city is wonderful. So it’ll be great! Let’s meet up when you get here!!
i was really unsure of how much i would have to bring, so this is very helpful! when you say to bring this money "in cash" should i convert and exchange the money in my home country or should i do all that in Japan when i get there? Would I have an opportunity to withdraw money from an ATM in Japan if the latter? thank you for these videos!
Great question! Thanks for watching! To answer your question, Just make your life easier and Get cash in your home country. Many banks and credit unions charge no fees. I know Wells Fargo was “free” just the exchange rate difference. I had extra money in a bank with no international fees in case, but I suggest cash in hand. No time in airport to exchange. The JET hotel had an exchange for a fee, but your placement might not have much.
I was woefully unprepared for how much money I spent BEFORE getting to my placement in Matsuyama City. I brought 5K and spent at least half of that on key money, fire insurance and buying the contents of the apartment. It was a bug infested nightmare with a dying fridge. This was in 06 so it ma be easier but ?i had a very tough time
Ugh I'm sorry to hear that! Some people really do end up in terrible apartments! I helped a new JET in my area clean out and figure out to dispose of (some she had to pay to dispose of) the entire 10 years of junk contents from her two previous male preds...there were old sofas, tvs, microwaves, moldy futons. A whole room in her apartment. So, the opposite of your issue, but MAN! To pay key money on a pile of sh** is bad too! Yep. Startups can be shocking. Glad you made it through, and hopefully you saved enough money to recoop that!
This was great! Thanks a bunch, I aim to submit my application this month here from the uk.
Good luck!! Hopefully it’s more normal by then!!

@@ADreamInJapanamazing, thanks so much for the info!
Ah, this helped me better plan, thank you! I still don't know if I have a predecessor but I'll probably shoot to purchase off of them if I am able.
Thanks for watching! I’m going to talk about the predecessor situation in my next video about coronavirus so please check that out!

I was on the JET programme. My CO didn’t speak about owning a car at all. How would they stop you?
