However , when you drive it aggressively it does use up the battery fairly quickly . I’ve seen the display read 350 miles on a full charge but depending on how you drive it’s probably around 250. The biggest gripes my brother has is the charging . At home when he charges over night he’ll get around 50 miles . When he goes to charging stations , it can be tough to find one that is not being used. Fast charging can cost just as much gasoline. If he chooses a slower charging option it takes 2-3 hours. If he picks the slowest charging (which is usually free) he only gets 25 miles an hour. Sometimes a charging station will be out of order . This car is best in the city where stop and go traffic charges the battery with regen braking and the abundance of chargers . Crazy that GM have succeeded at making a proper electric vehicle while Tesla still struggles to make their model 3 (the cheapest model) worth below $40k
There is just too much demand for the Model 3. Tesla has no incentive to reduce prices if they can sell them like hotcakes. I hope someday I can buy an EV and not have to put up with high prices or long waits.

Doesn’t the wheels squealing on curves bug you? It’s pretty loud and noticeable, plus the bumps from the lines in the road. Are there others tires one can change to remedy this?
At least with the 2018 version, I've only experienced tire squealing when gunning the acceleration. If you're going at a more typical acceleration, you won't hear anything. If you look at the dashboard gauge cluster display, he regularly hit 50-150kW during acceleration. It's that really steep sudden torque that causes tire squealing. If you're accelerating at like 30 kW, you'd be hard pressed to hear anything. The OEM tires GM includes are all season energy efficient tires that are meant to be low friction to improve range. Changing the tires would probably reduce or eliminate the tire squeal, but that might also mean a ~5% reduction in range.

All of Chevy’s current lineup has a different “new car smell” for some reason. I think the Silverado smells the best. If you’re wondering how I know that, I work at a Chevy dealer.
I was looking at both also. My Bolt EUV is expected to arrive in May. The main thing that made me say no to VW ID.4 is that they've had serious software problems for years that they have not fixed. Software is really important for any EV. Also, the ID.4 price is considerably higher.
Asked local chevy dealer last week about one of these. Quoted me 41k ... the car is 26k. Even the premier euv is 33k or so. Not sure what the deal is but I'd buy one tomorrow if i could find one for msrp.
Much nicer interior for sure. Just wish it had more range...I'd love to get one, but drive 210 miles for a delivery job and the Bolt simply can't do that in cold midwest winters unfortunately
My Kia EV6 loses about 25-30% of it's range when temps drop below 32 degrees. Most EVs do the same. 300 miles in fair conditions is about the industry average among many of the newest BEVs being released. A PHEV may be more practical for driving situations like yours. Unfortunately, plugin hybrids are just as difficult to find as the demand has ballooned on most of these vehicles.
Ha - bought a silver 2022 Bolt EV 2LT today, and will pick up on Monday. These are hard to find and I got one only 35 miles away. I wanted an EV for a while, but Elon and Tesla just refuse to make one that is affordable for me. It cost me about half price of the cheapest Tesla stripped, not equipped. All kinds of tech with the infotainment package. The tech somewhat matches my 2020 Cadillac XT5 Premium Luxury vehicle. Good grief, it could fail in 3-5 years and I could buy another one and still be cheaper than ONE Tesla. BTW: I own TSLA stock an have for years and will not sell it. Too many fanboys that like the status of Tesla, and yes, Tesla is a better vehicle. It is just NOT for the average working person. The Bolt fits perfectly IMO.
Is there some kind of thought that if the speedo updates to quick it's hard to read? I hate the digital speedometers jump around, I mean can't we have a 60FPS display for smoother speed display.
now the 7500$ federal credit and state incentives make this car a deal especially the 1LT. end price will be about 18.5k with tax which is a great deal.
I need to sit in the Bolt and the EUV to see the difference in person. Is 3 inches of legroom in the back seat worth $1,300 more and a loss of 12 miles range? The EUV loses the front quarter window and the downward swoop of the front doors.
the 92mph limit is kind of a bummer. i mean no, that's not a speed you usually travel at, but even driving on the PA turnpike traffic has been averaging 85-90mph lately..
I wanted this car for my first EV as a second car. As of August 2022 I contacted 13 dealers in Southern California, and they won’t even take my money, or put me on a list, or take my order for the regular EV. They have some EUV's to be on a waiting list, but the factory will not take orders on a regular EV. So Chevrolet got a lot of free press about the lower price ($6000 reduction) but can’t produce or provide the car. Thanks for nothing Chevrolet!
Based on my experience in looking for an EV within the past month, I went with the Bolt EUV because it was the one of the only models that promised to be delivered within 6 months. The rest of the EVs in the midrange price all have a year long waitlist. I asked about the Kia Niro and the Hyundai Kona - both dealerships basically laughed at me and said “good luck,” because they didn’t even know when they’d get another allotment of EVs from their respective manufacturers, and they all had minimum 1 year waitlists even before delivery lead time.

In addition, I am not sure why there are a lot of complaints about the 55hW on-board charger. The slower you charge, the longer the battery pack lasts. When I charge my Tesla overnight at Level 2, I slowed down the charge rate from 30A to 20A to prolong the battery life.
I've never been a big fan of GM however, this car surely is one that I wouldn't mind owning!! I must say however that the 20+ year old door chime sound and the Pickup/Cargo van turn signal Flasher sound... such turn offs lolll
Does the bolt EV also have the STUPID arrangement for the brake light/indicator? If so, I seriously want this thing to either be fixed or go out of production. Driving in America is already hard enough. Now not only I have to distinguish whether someone is just quickly tapping the brake twice or using the indicator, but I also have to guess where the brake lights are on a vehicle that I have no clue what that is, and later realize those reflection strips are actually where the brake lights are?

Have a ‘23 EUV on order. Supposed to be built this week. Can’t wait
My 2023 EUV Redlin Edition is currently 11th in place to be built as of a week ago. Do you know approximately how long it will take them to have yours built? I'm trying to get an estimate on how much longer I'm going to have to wait haha.
@@51white15 I am not sure I will be contacting the dealer later this week to confirm it is being built and the targeted delivery date. Will update here if so.
Heard from the dealer last week that it is being built. Based on what he has seen for other EUVs he suspects it will be around 3 weeks from start of production to delivery.
@@MrScotty247 Thank you for the update! I still have zero updates on mine.
@@51white15 That's a bummer. Mine was delivered last week and is available for pickup today.
I rarely see the EV on the road it’s always the bigger version . Loved your review.
This is a really great car. Most competitors are 45-50k, after rebate is 38-43k which is 10k more than the bolt.
gorgeous automobile
Crazy that GM have succeeded at making a proper electric vehicle while Tesla still struggles to make their model 3 (the cheapest model) worth below $40k
There is just too much demand for the Model 3. Tesla has no incentive to reduce prices if they can sell them like hotcakes. I hope someday I can buy an EV and not have to put up with high prices or long waits.
Bolt EV has better build quality than a Model 3 and Y
Great vid! Awaiting my order of '23 Bolt EV 2lt!
Seems like a great daily driver for someone who already has a loud, obnoxious truck and a powerful v8. This slides in nicely as a work commuter, errand runner or a good family car.
I'm quite impressed with this. Generally not a GM fan but they've done well here. It does need better tires, though.
Eyeing on the Bolt EUV. I just can't wait.
Topher - I like your taste in cars more than your taste in music
I love that Chevrolet is making Affordable EV cars with a nice look!!
Personally I’m not into Chevrolet products but I’m glad they took the first step!!
Can’t wait to see what other companies Ford, Toyota, Honda, Tesla!! Release!!
I prefer a Tesla EV yes mostly for the brand but if they don’t make anything cheap soon I might have to look into a Bolt lol!!
I want to like this car. I wanted one of these as my first electric car. But I simply am not convinced they have fixed the whole lighting on fire thing.
Great review - thank you! Looking for one right now...
I spent a lot of time in a Bolt last year for work. Love the dash display. The seats? Not so much.
Seats have vastly improved.
I just want to know how to get a job like this
Ik this man is blessed
I agree. The Bolt EV looks great, priced right, and is ideal for in-town driving. Hope Chevy fixed it’s issues.
$35k for a grocery getter is now a great deal? lol God help us.
@@michaelbell75 depends on your prerogative. If you want an affordable EV, are single, an empty nester, and/or only drive in-town, this vehicle makes sense. As a second vehicle, it would also be ideal. Don’t knock it until you tried it…you’ll be surprised by the space and tech. As for reliability, that’s a different story…thank goodness for warranties and lemon laws.🤪
@@vagabond1776 Sorry but $35k for a slightly larger Spark with a massive $20k price increase will never be a deal. I would go get a used Spark and pocket $22k....
@@michaelbell75 agreed. I, myself, would rather get a new Corolla hybrid for $25k if mpg was a priority. But to each his/her own. My brother-in-law bought one of these Bolt EV’s cause he’s a techy, a hermit, only drives in-town, and has free supercharge stations at work.
Love this car
Chevrolet Bolt EV: It's lit 🔥
At the 14:00 mark then for the next 10-15 seconds, the steering wheel is slightly canted to the left, I’m assuming due to the road crown. Is that much normal? My 2023 does the same and am trying to figure out if it’s normal. My family member’s tesla model y does not do it on the same roads. Could the wheelbase difference be behind that?
I hope Chevy redesigns the volt that’s the one I would love to get with this interior 😩😍
This would be great for me. I only drive about 400 miles a month. So charging at home in my garage would be perfect. I probably wouldn’t need to use any of the charging stations ever.
Same reason I ordered '23 Bolt EV 2lt, only average 2500 miles per year, can charge with normal outlet anywhere... good deal for sure!
The Bolt is honestly one of the best value EVs out there, but just those brake lights and turn signal combo low in the bumper, not a fan of that.
i hate red turn signals, they should be required to be orange...
Something like this looks ideal for something like Doordash, Flex or other gig type work. Electric, cheap tires, decent range and affordable.
The Bolt is the only electric hot hatch.
I really like this car. It kind of looks like a big Chevy Spark.
Please review the Ford 2.0 ecoboost Escape Vignale Thx. You only reviewed the PHEV version.
Would summer tires on the bolt make it more fun??
All of Chevy’s current lineup has a different “new car smell” for some reason. I think the Silverado smells the best. If you’re wondering how I know that, I work at a Chevy dealer.
I may get bolt euv or id4. I like them both
I was looking at both also.
Not sure what the deal is but I'd buy one tomorrow if i could find one for msrp.
the dealership definitely added 15k worth of value to the car. capitalism is so awesome
The only problem with Electric vehicles is infrastructure. There's no place to charge them in my rural county. It would take forever at home.
So quiet inside!
love it. Really good car for the money
This should be the type of EV most people should need for getting around town so long as GM does not do something stupid with it.
I would love it if GM make a sport version of the bolt.
Can you order this with different (more sticky) tires? Yes I know you'd lose mile range.
I read somewhere that it might be distracting
Ngl pretty good price 👍
This car reminds me of my first car, a nissan cube
Thanks for sharing
I’d like to hear what the AVAS sounds like from outside
now the 7500$ federal credit and state incentives make this car a deal especially the 1LT. end price will be about 18.5k with tax which is a great deal.
100 would be much more reasonable IMO. Like you said, not a speed often traveled at, but that extra 8 mph would make a difference.
Is the tablet replaceable for a custom one?
looks like a nice daily
Between this and the Hyundai Kona, which do you prefer ?
Based on my experience in looking for an EV within the past month, I went with the Bolt EUV because it was the one of the only models that promised to be delivered within 6 months. The rest of the EVs in the midrange price all have a year long waitlist. I asked about the Kia Niro and the Hyundai Kona - both dealerships basically laughed at me and said “good luck,” because they didn’t even know when they’d get another allotment of EVs from their respective manufacturers, and they all had minimum 1 year waitlists even before delivery lead time.
My 2017 didn't reconnect to the bluetooth on my phone every time I started the car. GM said ti was a timeout... did they fix it? Does it correctly connect to a bluetooth device when you start it?
Nice bolt
If EVs were like breakfast cereals, the Chevy Bolt would be Corn Flakes: nothing flashy or distinctly flavorful, but it'll do the job in a pinch.
I have a 2020 bolt and it's great driving it around town but after taking it on a long road trip I don't want to do it again.
Because of the charging or seat comfort?
@@christopherl9171 The charging

If this car does end up qualifying for a tax rebate and goes sub 20k I'd be all over it.
Price is still to high imo for a electric chevy sonic basically.
Why did they lower the prices?
this is the second EV i’ve seen that has squealing tires during turns. why?
Under $30,000 until markups and $3,000 of “value added options!” like air in your tires.
Self ignition comes standard.
Anyone knows if the 1LT model has the CSS fast-DC port? I bought my sister a 2017 BoltzEV Premier with this CSS port and I prefer driving her than my 2020 Tesla Model 3 ... 😢. Why? I can park it anywhere in the city and no one would mess with it since it looks like all the other Mazda and Toyota. I am thinking of swapping the Tesla for a 2023 Chevy BoltzEV but I can't find any information about the CSS port on the 1LT model ... 😢. In addition, I am not sure why there are a lot of complaints about the 55hW on-board charger. The slower you charge, the longer the battery pack lasts. When I charge my Tesla overnight at Level 2, I slowed down the charge rate from 30A to 20A to prolong the battery life.
hopefully future GM EVs (and especially the Honda/Acura badged EVs) will continue to have physical buttons
This car is cute lookn
In EU you can get a ticket for overtaking on the right lane :D
It is illegal in the US here too as far as I know
I've never been a big fan of GM however, this car surely is one that I wouldn't mind owning!! I must say however that the 20+ year old door chime sound and the Pickup/Cargo van turn signal Flasher sound... such turn offs lolll
Does it blow up
For those of you just now seeing this, the 2023 Bolt EV has as 65 kWh battery
I like the ev better than the euv only becuase it has the window under the a pillar…🤷🏻♂️ idk I just like it.
This is what EVs should be, not 500+ HP expensive nonsense.
Is this actually cheap?
Expect to pay $36,500 for a 2022 2LT, dealership stole my $5,900 rebate, good luck…
I'd get a blazer EV or the Silverado EV. GM needs to make an EV than can replace a diesel in terms of towing and hauling trailers and goosenecks.
I hate Chevys for this very reason!
how close are you tailing where this half-second issue causes so many close calls for you? lmao just stop driving so aggressively
@@atl6s You clearly haven't driven a single car in the past. Or you are a bad driver yourself.
@@Plisken65 Not tail-gating at all. If you think an added half a second to the reaction time is nothing to talk about, you are a bad driver. The least you want on a road is getting caught off guard. Must think you are really clever, right? Smart ass. By the way, drinking and driving increases your reaction time by 0.12 second, so half a second is 4 times that. Do you have any concept of the time? At 35 mph, a 0.5 second delay means an additional traveling distance of 8.4 meters. I'd like to see you stop every single time without getting into an accident when you are following two car length less to the front car. Know the concept of time, smart ass.
GM has never changed. Lol 20k for the vega of the 2020s

If it went over 90mph i wouldve choose it over my kia niro but its just the little things
