I was born in Qingdao, China. Visited Shanghai in 1993 when I went to work in Singapore. I lived in the US for 12 years until I was back 2 years ago. I am very impressed by the new look of Shanghai and other cities including my hometown. China does need to have more freedom. When I was in China, some websites were not available.

It's quite meaningless to say XXX is better than XX. I've been to NYC many many times, as well as SH and London. All of them have very different history, status, and pros/cons in different perspectives. I love the surroundings of central park and lower Manhattan where the New world trade tower locates. Other parts of NYC, due all respect, are in quite bad shape. In comparison to SH and London, most of NYC has out dated infrastructures that do not meet today's safety standards. SH on the other hand is the most modern of all 3 cities, much much better infrastructures over all. It might not has as long history as NYC/London, but the city is constructed in such a way to be more 21st century. London is the oldest, the one that has most class, pedigree and history. Lots of great architectures/museums. I love all 3 cities.

Life in Shanghai is difficult, unless you are a rich person. The local Shanghaiese are very arrogant and xenophobic people in general. By saying "xenophobic", I mean they don't even accept the Chinese people from other parts of China. The good thing is sometimes humanbeings can choose their own social circle. A lot of the Chinese people from outside Shanghai only deal with other Chinese people from outside Shanghai as well. Same with a lot of foreigners.

The thing with Shanghai in camera is that those three skyscrapers are so tall that they overshadow all the buildings around it. The shortest of all three being Jinmao Tower, is still taller than the Empire State Building. The World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower are No.9 and No.2 in height in the entire world.
