  • In today’s episode Thomas presents you the second generation of the DS7 Crossback in the performance line. As always we cover the exterior, interior, talk about engines and for sure drive the car. Mainly we are focussing on the Diesel, but we were also able to have an exclusive look on the upcoming Hybrid engine in 2019. How does it perform and how does it compete to other vehicles? These are further questions which will be answered on Autogefühl.

    I’ve got mine a month ago and so far i’ve only positives to say about the car. My second car is a 2018 audi a5 and i can say that there’s not much difference in build quality between the two. Maybe if you nit pick, the A5 is a little more well put together. The irregular gaps on the DS’s bonnet that some people complained about have been fixed by DS and all the newer cars are perfect. Also the infotainment system has received a firmware update and it’s not laggy. Well it’s not as fast as Audi’s mmi but it doesn’t disappoint.
    Great review and whoever is sitting on the fence about the ds, don’t. If you like the car, it’s a solid purchase.
    Not to mention that it gets attention like no other, because people don’t have a clue what it is.

    I love the interior and the fact it's not built for sporty driving but yet still capable when needed. So I'd rather have a softer suspension that offers a quiet and pleasant ride as offered by the DS7. In my view this car has it's own stand-alone French avantgardish design without being quirky. It doesn't try to be a German race tank like Jaguar and so many others unfortunately do. The car is very nicely designed and built, but doesn't offend anyone by screaming money. Clearly the DS7 is on the top of my list - in all versions, but certainly and foremost in the hybrid version.

      Hi Daniel, very well worded review, sums it up perfectly. I picked up my DS 7 Crossback Prestige on Thursday and it is the nicest car you can imagine. Looks, drive, interior. Sold on my Audi A4. This DS brand has gone under the radar but soon it will become an established and respected brand of vehicle.

      It's a way more refined car than Audi, but it's in the similar segment as Audi Q5, so it has similar purpose. French made very original cars in the past, but people don't like too much experiments, so they toned it down and now it looks perfect.

    Great review Thomas and what a nice car. As I am driving the DS5 Hybrid I was really keen on a detailed review of that new DS7 Crossback. So thank you for this and please keep up your great work. Just a hint for changing the volume of the GPS instructions that you were desperately looking for during your report. It is probably more intuitive than you thought. You just need to wait on a driving instruction and while the GPS is talking use the normal volume button on the steering wheel for adjustment. Cheers

    Great looking car! I especially love the rotating LED headlights in the purple font! But I think that bright work on the exterior is the most appropriate style for it (especially if you choose the top-of-the-line version), not the "Night Style" or "Shadow Line", as its rivals call the black exterior details! Also, its interior is a show stopper!! I watched a French video which compared the DS7 to the Q5 and the DS7 had red leather with watch strap pattern stitching!! You might say it's not Thomas-proof, but it looked great!!

    The car itself actually looks alright. But the rims just bring down the overall appereance of the car itself, So if anyone where to buy a brand new DS7 i would highly reccomend them to buy some large clean high-end rims to make the car look even more exclusive and premium. (My Opinion)

    Hello again! I'm from the UK and I contacted you in 2016 when I switched from a Mazda CX-5 to a Renault Kadjar. I gave you my opinion on each car and preferred the Mazda. Well I have just traded in the Renault and have a DS7 Crossback Performance line. It's early days for me but I really like the car. The UK specification is a bit more basic than the one you tested. I have the 1.5 diesel manual and there are no electrics on the front or rear seats and no automatic tailgate. The build quality and the appearance of this car are stunningly good. If you wish I'll give you a more detailed report when I've had more time with this car, as I only got it on Friday 15 March 2019, but as I said, so far so good!

    The reason why this blind spot monitoring system is better in my opinion is because it does exactly what it's supposed to do. It tells you when something is in your blind spot, and that's it.
    If you think about it, that's how it should be, because having the light turn on BEFORE something is in your blind spot is basically giving you false information, it's telling you something is in your blind spot when in fact it isn't.
    Look at this example:
    A car is coming from behind you on your left side, and if he's not in your blind spot yet, then you can ACTUALLY see him with your own eyes in the mirror, right? So if you see a car in your mirror, then you don't also need a little yellow light to tell you that there is a car behind you, because you can already see him in the side mirrors.
    Then once he enters your blind spot and you can't see him in the mirror anymore, the light activates to tell you that something is in your blind spot and to stop you from turning left. If the light turns on before that, and you can see the car behind you that is NOT in your blind spot, then you don't know for sure whether there's a second car or motorcycle in your blind spot already.
    Even if the light tells you he's behind, that still doesn't mean that you don't have to look at the car in the mirror and judge how far he is and how fast he is approaching you. So the yellow light being on or off when the car coming up is still behind you is totally irrelevant and serves no purpose at all because it's basically warning you about something that you can easily see already and you don't need to be warned about. If you'll see a little light in the mirror, then you'll see a big car in the mirror too. :P
    Basically with this Citroen / Peugeot system you ALWAYS know that if the light is turned on, that there is something in your blind spot, and if it's turned off, then there is nothing in your blind spot and the only thing behind you or to the side of you is what you can actually see in your side view mirror, just like forever before the blind spot indicators were invented. For me, having driven cars with both types of systems, I learned to trust the Peugeot system and once you get used to it you trust it 100%, with other cars I'm always 50-50, always in doubt whether the blind spot monitor was triggered by a car that is still behind me and that I can actually see in my side view mirror, or was it triggered by a car that might be in my blind spot that I can't see, so I don't trust the system and find myself turning my head around to actually check my blind spot. A couple of times before I started doing that, while driving in the cities, it happened to me that I saw a light warning me, then I'd look in the mirror and see the car is still a couple of meters behind me and I'd say "oh I have enough room to switch lanes" only to realize at the last moment that there was a car in my blind spot and I might hit him if I turn left. That can never happen with the Peugoet / Citroen system.

    • @gordonbennett6057
      @gordonbennett6057 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +derbigpr500 - interesting discussion, "in this community to discuss cars!" And it's interesting to discuss driving too. My initial thought is that a BLIS system is useful. Having driven with both systems, I think that a big bright light that attracts your peripheral vision is most useful! (and before somebody comments, even for Advanced Drivers, by the way, though I am NOT an Advanced Driver). And I used to think the long-range system was best, especially if you were keeping alert, or on a fast motorway. But I agree with you, the short-range Citroen/Peugeot system works, especially at lower speeds. (do you like your Passat, by the way?). Cheers.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer the pre-warning systems because sometimes, especially in Germany, cars approach that fast from behind, that the PSA system would not warn you quick enough

    • @gordonbennett6057
      @gordonbennett6057 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Autogefuhl - I agree. On balance, I too think I prefer the pre-warning/long range system - if you are half alert, or even if you are paying attention to the road, it just quite simply helps you. And the pre-warning works better in fast traffic. Speaking to Advanced Drivers, once they have tried it, or experienced a BLIS system, the consensus is that it simply acts as an additional safety system for even the best drivers.

    • @mty1957
      @mty1957 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      autogefuehl - like someone else said, the warning light should be big, so you see it! Not until you've tried a car with blindspot warning, do you realise can be useful.

  • @DreamCarGarage1

    Without doubt the interior of the Peugeot 3008 is much better resolved. It's overall composition seems much better thought through. From the short cut toggle switches to the contrasting cloth on the dashboard it just gives an overall impression of a product that was more comprehensively intentionally designed. By contrast the DS really does give the impression that its design is more reactionary than original. I think there intention to make the interior look and feel different than the excellent 3008 has brought about design features that do not seem well integrated like the big screen the left of the wheel. That said I think the outside is quite successful. The grill is a bit brash but I admire its boldness, though it would benefit from a wider set of wheels to butch up its appearance.

So you don't want to tell your own opinion about the fact that it can or not compete with German brands ;) I've seen it live and for me the interior design is a bit overkill, also don't like that much the design of digital instruments... But it certainly feels luxury. Outside, it's better in live, might still be on my wishlist if I don't go for a sportier car.

    Thomas - according to the car manual on line, you can use voice commands to say "Stop Route Guidance" and then maybe the guidance voice will be muted. You can then say "resume route guidance" again later. This below is from the English manual:
    "You can say "stop" or "resume route guidance". To get information about your current route, you can say "tell me the remaining time", "remaining distance" or "arrival time". To learn more commands, try saying "help with navigation"."

What I didn't knew was the tail turning lights solution. Nice to know. Overall I think it's the most luxury car in this segment and it's still not too expensive. Just to add a little bit to the technical details: although the car is built on the platform of the 3008 and 5008, it does have a totally different rear suspension (multilink independent instead of fixed torsion beam). It is also has a wider and longer wheelbase. This is more in line with other premium manufacturers.

    I really like this new DS7, design, quality, everything is very good done. I hope it will sell good but it has very strong, also excellent, competition like Alfa Romeo Stelvio, Volvo XC60, Jaguar F-Pace, BMW X3, Audi q5, Mercedes GLC. This segment is rising very quickly and there’s no doubt we will see lot of them on our European roads...

    Great in depth and very enjoyable review. The car does look very good and extremely well finished and fitted out. However I'm just not sure it is unique enough to establish itself with the big German SUV rivals and emerging Jaguar and other SUV's. Indeed the likes of the Peugeot 3008 and upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross may be a better and far more affordable option. I think DS has gone too 'head on' with the rivals. I have driven Citroen's for many years with my current DS5 the best so far. Maybe I'll be tempted by a DS7 Crossback in 3 or so years when the value might plummet to a price where the car is worth it.

    I had been thinking of getting DS7 myself, but haven't seen it in metal yet. Your review was very tactfully honest. I got mixed impressions - the looks are great, but the quality appears quite far from premium standards. Body panel misalignment, uneven seams on seats, low resolution screens, not convincing computer system show DS attitude. And when you check the configurator, you find, that every single piece of important tech has been moved to options list, even parking sensors. That disappoints.

    Hello Thomas! Great review and great camera work! I do have some questions though, do you plan on testing the luxury-orientated version of this vehicle? I know that today more people are focused towards more sporty cars, but there are people like myself that want to go all-comfort on a daily driver vehicle. My question is, does the performance line affect the way the suspension behaves?(making it more stiff from a ride standpoint) and which vehicle in it's class( and i'm talking BMW X3 Mercedes GLC Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60 ) is the most comfortable? Also do you have any info on the future models ? I'd be interested if they would launch a sedan. Thanks in advance!

    It is hard to come up with new design that hasn't been used before and which looks good.
    Yes, we can identify familiar design patterns from various other car makers, a few being mentioned such as the Audi front, Lexus/Infiniti side view and Porsche rear.
    I find the interior surprisingly 'calm' from a design perspective. The centre console looks like being made by Vertu and the software in the centre screen by an older Zune :)
    The scrolling buttons with the crystal pattern remind me of the drive mode selectors in the new Volvo models.
    Interesting looking vehicle, curious to experience how it drives.
    Great review as always! Thank you.

    Nice review even in harsh weather conditions! I have a question that seems a little bit premature but you already had first contact with plug in hybrid so I have to ask:1) DS7 Crossback E Tense or Volvo XC 60 T8; 2) DS Active Scan Suspension or Volvo Air Suspension? 3) Overall which of these two cars do you consider more premium?Questions 2 and 3 doesn't concern the plug in hybrid versions but all versions of the vehicles.Thank you

      thanks! Well both surely have arguments for them. I love the Alcantara approach here in the Performance line and the DS7 will stay cheaper than the XC60. The XC60 is also very comfortable and the air suspension is ahead, however also way more expensive again

    This DS SUV is way better looking car than the Peugeot 3008/5008 it be exterior or interior with the finest handcrafted material. The first time I saw it the Champs Elysées after job I was really stunned by the quality. The car is entirely built in China. My question to Thomas is: As we know that DS is a luxury brands of Citroën, does the DS still owned by Citroën or it is now owned by the Chinese?

    Yeah. That's not strictly a standard Performance line as the auto opening boot, flip clock, and front bumper sensors are all options and not fitted as standard. There are also other options covered in this video that do NOT come as standard on the Performance line, just in case you were thinking of buying one.
    I own the standard Performance line just in case you needed any proof.

    Design over function sometimes. Hidden switches to keep the lines but too many window ones as they look good on the centre console. A nightmare to change things with no buttons when driving. Often touchscreens don't work with cold hands. Looks like a rebadged Lexus. A cool review, literally!

    Blindspot doesn't exist. Adjust the mirrors properly and pay attention to the road.
    About that GPS mute option, try to scroll down volume button on the steering wheel exactly at the same time when it's giving you voice commands.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      so all the blind spot accidents must just be because people have their mirrors set in a wrong way? ;-)

    A few things: my BMW 320D (built 2008) also had some gap "imperfections" around the hood and front lights. Seems this is a common issue on more recent BMW's. Secondly, I have a the slight impression that the infotainment screen is maybe somewhat low: the steering wheel kind of obstructs the left side. And third: the analogue retro clock, well: no go for me
