I totally agree! We all should let our light shine! I'm a person of faith too and it does make a complete difference in our life. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas. It's always nice to go through our Sewing Room and see what we have. It sparks creativity. Getting reorganized and letting go of things that clog our space. Let's all get working on great things for a brand new year ahead!😊
You did good! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 Mental clarity and physical clarity is a necessity for me too! I love a little bit of Jesus... Oh, who am I kidding? I love a lot of Jesus.😅
Hi Jen, I’m right in the middle of sorting through our whole house, not just my sewing stuff. It’s not easy, but such a relief. I love what you did to the neckline of the pretty dress! Kind regards from Penny 🇬🇧😊💕
Hi Jen, you did a wonderful job with clearing out your sewing room. I mentioned on one of your other videos that I was hosting a fabric exchange at my local library on the 31st. It was quite a roller coaster ride. People started bringing in 3 and 4 totes, but taking only one or a 1/2 tote away. The 8 tables were filling and not much was leaving. There were also 2 tables full of scrapbooking stuff that was not moving. I had about 5 ladies who were helping me, but they said they were not taking anything home with them. I was starting to panic since I have a prius with a car seat base in it, so not much room and the tables were still loaded 1/2 hour before we had to quit. I prayed, "Lord, I didn't ask you about this before I started it, but please help me now because I have no way to get all this out of here". Two of the ladies went out to the library and let people know there was free fabric and crafting items available. The library workers all came and got fabric. Others came and took quite a bit of fabric. Some took the scrapbooking stuff for teachers, churches, and home schoolers. Those tables were totally emptied. By 6 pm, we only had about 6 boxes of fabric and scraps and a lady I had never met before took it all in her car to donate to the local thrift store so I didn't even have to deal with that. Everybody who came was thankful for the freebies and I was shown again, God answers our prayers, even our little (to Him) ones. PS The ladies who helped me all had a good time and want to do it again. I think I'll pray about it before hand next time ;)
Hi Jen, I love watching your videos and seeing all if you're makes and life chat. I also love the fact you read scripture at the end. I'm a Christian and I think it's a great thing to do. Spreading the word of God x
Jen, I love that you share Jesus so openly and unabashedly. He is my Lord also, and I am so happy to see you and others in the sewing community openly sharing. TH-cam gives us the ability to go into all the world and preach the gospel right from our home!! Isn't that amazing?
It is! I feel like it's what God wants me to do. And it's not for everyone which is why I always put it at the end. I appreciate you telling me - thanks for your encouragement!
January 2024 must be the year to say goodbye to some of our treasures. I decided to ‘gift’ my treadle sewing machine and two knitting machines to a fabulous Charity called Tool Aid in the UK. The machines will be serviced and sent out to Africa where they will be used in a Group Training centre where locals can be trained how to use them and then ‘gifted’ to them use to possibly create their own business or support there local community in some way. Such an amazing Charity, and knowing that the items will be used and treasured is a lovely feeling.
My mother used to sew clothes for our family. She always bought a matching spool of thread to match the colorful fabric . I am 60 years old and my mom has been dead 50 years ,I still have spools of her thread.I hemmed some curtains the other day and one of those spools was the perfect color.
Good work, I get how hard it can be to let go of patterns, they feel like old friends. I purged over 400 of them last year. Kept only what I will use and sew again. Oddly I don't miss them, it opens up a bunch of room for more creativity.
"When you are collecting useful things but you are not using them" that really got to me! Cause I am not a collector, I definitely don't see the point of collections. I am a practical person, or at least I think I am. So why do I have over 100 patterns? When I only sew about a garment a month??? I can relate with you about family events taking up bandwidth and having to put sewing on hold for a bit. That's life! Thank you for sharing and looking forward to seeing the rest of the decluttering process.
I love a clean, organized space to work in. I'm often going through my sewing space to make sure I'm not holding onto anything that will probably never get used. When we started sewing my husband bought a large fishing tackle box to hold all of the small things. We chose a plastic thread box from a craft/sewing store that works amazing. When I buy fabric it's with a plan in mind and I use small and medium plastic tubs that lock for the fabric, pattern and any notions for the project. It's worked great and keeps me from getting carried away. I love your prayer cards, so inspiring.
Jen, you are the best, so practical and full of inspiration. Thank you for all you do for me. 😊 I’m not able to get out except for church and Bible study on Wednesday nights. So you can understand the inspiration you always give me. Thank you so much, Jen, for what you do for me everyday. Much love. 😊
A fishing tackle box. I look at my room and think of 1-how envious I am of you and 2-how it's laughable that I'd ever contain my room in a tackle box! You are so smart to only buy fabric for a project. Same with notions. I wanna be like you when I grow up.
Hi Jen. You did great with the changes you made with the garments. I especially love the green dress; it is beautiful. You are doing amazing at getting your sewing room in order and purging. That can be tough. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing "a little bit of Jesus" with us. Love your little scripture cards. Have a good weekend.
I've been slowing getting rid of things too! I have to be in the right mind set to do it tho...cuz if I'm not...I would be like "but what if I need it!" Ha ha! Happy weekend!
Kudos to you. It's hard to part with our sewing stash but its necessary at times. I gave away about 100 patterns this past year. Got rid of fabric too. I just can't store it all anymore. Cute sweater you're wearing.
Oh Thank you for the inspiration.. I started with Patterns and scraps.. Now on to the yardage.. there is some "what was I thinking purchases " that have to go🤣
Great purge job. I feel so good for you too! You have inspired me to be ruthless in my sewing room too. It’s amazing how quickly it can get out of hand in there. Love the strap idea on the dress neckline. That is a great save!
Congratulations on letting go and “tidying up” your creative space😊 It really makes you feel lighter and you can now enjoy your space more. I love my new space but I need to clean it up! I got into a bag making frenzy before Christmas and lost my mojo in mid stream. All that stuff is in my way. You’ve lit a fire in me to get in there and clean it up🥰 I love my savior! I love being with other Christians and spending hours listening and sharing what God has done or how God led you through … my Christian birthday is just before Easter🥰
I love how you fixed the tank dress - so good! 🌸 Congrats on the purge! It feels so refreshing, doesn't it? I purged a lot when I moved into the house and I'm much more thoughtful about what I bring in now. I'm not adding any more storage either LOL! 🌸
I’ve been dealing with a few issues that have just about plucked my last nerve. Hopefully they are about to be solved. I need to purge but right now I’m trying to get some things ready to take down to Florida to sew. I did do a mini cleanup and that helped. Right now my sewing room is still working for me and there are just other priorities and really I just want to sew right now. I also just found out my cataracts have worsened so in May I’ll probably be having cataract surgery. I really can’t wait because my vision is getting worse and I don’t sew or read much at night right now.
No wonder things have gotten on your last nerve. You need your eyes! The surgery will be great, though, because your vision will be amazing. I've heard great things. Hang in there.,
Hey Jen! Yeah, I can relate with being overwhelmed by too much stuff and having to deal with it all. Have that going on right now. Need to get rid of half my possessions to get ready to sell my house and move out of So. Calif. I'm not married, so all this responsibility falls on my shoulders. No fun!!! Your video was very encouraging in so many ways. Thanks! 🙏🏻
Congrats on starting the purge. 🎉. I’m still in a mess but really feel I need to do a deep dive and start purging as well. I ended up with quite a few wooden spools from my grandmother I believe….i didn’t want to part with them but they take up shelf/storage space so…… I strung them up like a garland and hung it from my “ceiling” in my sewing space. Now I can look at the and smile and remember my grandmother. 😊❤. I hope your items find good homes for their next life.
Well, what you did to the sun dress is absolutely stunning, those cross over straps are a piece of art 🤩. How do you come up with these things? What a clear out, that pile of stuff looks incredible. You have inspired me to go through my cupboards properly AND I still have toys etc from Steve and Katie in their cupboards which I really must get around to 😂. Looking so lovely and fresh today Jen. Thanks so much for sharing your week with us and all your plans. ❤ xxx
I just came across your channel and love the tips and tricks! I think I will make a new tshirt that says : Womanhood : Realizing Pants must ALWAYS have Pockets!😆
Oh to be able to swan dive into that purge pile!!! Im so proud of you though. You got me through a massive purge and I feel so much better for it (enter dancing pig)! I miss you! We need to ralk about March and the expo soon!!! Love you❤
I think I need to purge too. I'm 70 now, and I'm pretty sure I have more fabric than I can ever use up. Time to make some tough decisions. Besides some of it I don't even like any more😮
I purged all I didn’t like a few months back. I still have some pieces to take to adult sewing class to give away there. What I love most is I can see what I have now and I shop my closet first!
Great video Jen, could you tell me which pattern you used for the white wrap top you were wearing with the pink skirt? It is just so cute I want to make one for myself. Thanks
@@TodayinJensSewingRoom thanks so much I really like the look of it and I would also make it in a knit. I thought it had a grown on sleeve and I would have it cross in the front. So thank you so much.

Love the green dress. It is so pretty on you. I do love a tidy organized space. I have also reached the point of it’s too much.

Maybe bread and tea. I think He would approve.
As to your wooden spools, why not make a spool wreath. Just a thought.
