    To me, it looks like the mother isn't producing much milk. I wish another female had given birth around the same time so the cubs could allo-suckle. I wonder if that would have made a difference. Still praying that this little one survives.

    When there were 3 cubs, one was already very skinny, the last one has all the milk (unless she's not producing?) and is very skinny.
    Either:
    - all the cubs have contracted some sickness
    - mum is not producing milk (or very tiny amounts); this could maybe also explain why they had to fight during feeding...
    Poor babies.

    They say most lioness completely lose their entire 1st litter of cubs due to inexperience. I know we all hate to hear or see of cubs dying, but she’ll get mothering down with the next litter. She had to learn how to protect them & balance it with still being a productive member of the pride. I’m sure she’s not doing it on purpose.

    As I said on the last video, she is not feeding these babies enough. You stated the first cub died because of competition, and I disagreed. She didn’t roil over enough and give them time to feed. She has enough spots for 3 cubs without competition. This last cub appears too weak to suckle. A shame. Clearly malnourished.

    • @symph760
      @symph760 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's exactly why he said that first cub died because of competition. The mother exposed only two teats on her one side. Three cubs were competing to suckle from two teats, isn't that competition? The weaker one got weaker as it couldn't outcompete it's siblings.

  • @bedinabebe4521
    @bedinabebe4521 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Indeed the Lionesses look good. The mother peacefully nurses the cub & I like the way she steadied this remaining cub with her paw as the drank water. Perhaps the cub missed a meal or two & will catch up & thrive?
    This makes me think of a Cubs that wandered away from the den & was adopted by a caring Coalition that gave her meat, but naturally couldn't provide milk when she tried to suckle. The cub got separated when the Lions migrated so humans intervened to return the skinny cub to the den where her "rotund" brother waited. They attracted the Lioness back to the den with meat on a string.😂 The cublette was nursed, bathed & slept & hopefully she survived.

    • @Lithaldatwin
      @Lithaldatwin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      that cub was Buckett and she was not adopted by the males but followed her dad on their patrol, she was also too young for meat so survived on only water for 10 days until Brent with the property owners ok reunited her with her pride.

    So, so sad! Did they do autopsy’s on the other cubs??? I hope it isn’t white muscle disease!! It could be genetics or something entirely different. I hope the little cub make it and survives! Thank you for the update! You are so informative! I really appreciate your insights and compassion as a guide and letting the community know that the rangers are looking into the cause of the cubs deaths and that you all will keep us informed. I haven’t seen this type of informative communication in years! That’s not to say anyone did a bad job, it’s just to say others have a different way as to how they presented their information! I know it’s nature and there are rules in no interference, but, if we know what is causing these deaths, be it white muscle disease, genetics, or something entirely different then at least we can understand and recognize what is going on and we are all informed. Thank you once again and I look forward to the upcoming videos.💕💕💕💕💕

    I believe it is mentioned in the video that the cubs were left behind somewhere for 2 days. Without "intensive care" from vets, little cubs may deteriorate to the point in that time where they won't recover. Brings to mind the 6th Mapogo son in that Sand River pride who followed the Maps and Ottawa pride, and finally collapsed and died near a giraffe carcass they had been feeding on--just too weak even to take a bite anymore, and that was a subadult, not a little milk drinker. It might be that these Mbiri cubs have/had something in the genes.or something else we don't know about--maybe a necropsy of a dead sibling could tell the tale, if they could retrieve a carcass before it is consumed by other animals. The mother lioness seems to have been, in some previous images, unwilling to let all the cubs drink before only one was left alive. The lioness may herself be healthy but having issues with milk production.

    The last time I saw cubs wasting away like this was a few yrs ago on SafariLive (WildEarth) with the Nkuhuma pride. They had White Muscle Disease. I'm not saying that's the cause, just that it looks similar. I don't think it has anything to do with the mother,...lack of milk or because its her first litter. And being left for 2 days won't harm healthy cubs. It appears the cubs are wasting away despite feeding.

    It would make more sense that the lion mom doesn't give much attention because she knows they're dying and no point in dragging it out. But also, it could easily be some human-made bullshit. Hope it's not for views.

    Some disease in one the animals the lions killed or something in the water making the cubs sick? I wish the Rangers would tranquilize them give them some vet care, we owe them that coz humans have killed so many lions, we OWE them the vet care to help save the cubs

  • @random4969
    @random4969 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It wouldn't take much for a ranger to get off their lazy @ss and intervene give the cubs some quick vet care give them a booster shot of vitamins and antibiotics, there's plenty videos of rangers doing that for other lions so WHY NOT these ones??????? 😠😠😠

    I don't care. I would take that cub and feed it until it's a little roly poly and then bring it back.
