Band Maid are a Rock Band, they cover everything from ballads to heavy rock (bordering on metal), they can be jazzy, bluesy, groovy or just plain crazy. Acoustic arrangements of their songs are another experience altogether, they can make grown men cry. Not to forget their alter ego Band Maiko, yet a different way to experience their songs.
Welcome aboard, Nick. You are embarking on (along with many others - 145 million YT views plus over 30 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid:
BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (118 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World” and new single drops), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: th-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/w-d-xo.html Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Sense, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis! And many songs are represented with over 40 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts: ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” th-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/w-d-xo.html Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th “Domination” th-cam.com/video/QbyQCJn6rYg/w-d-xo.html ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” th-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/w-d-xo.html Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 (The last two are on bandmaidprime.tokyo and DVD/BD/CD) And some of the better quality 2019 tour Fan vids are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues: Taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: th-cam.com/video/__1th7ctgMo/w-d-xo.html And by JOSER8845 in LA: th-cam.com/video/usWZvlGGDSs/w-d-xo.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid Members: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 28 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 30 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 30 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 31 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 29 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. [BAND-MAID NEWS] BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have included the ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Thank you! I know from your Lovebites reaction, that you said you're very much into classic rock. Then you're absolutely right here. Believe it or not, many guys who grew up ln the 80s, 90s or even 70s are huge fans of this band, because they have brought back their joy and believe in rock music again, which they've lost years ago. Band-Maid consider themselves a hard rock band, but you may find so many different genres in them, sometimes even in one song. They've been compared to about a 100 other bands, but in the end, it's just Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things. For next, you may listen to the live of "Domination", then "Play", "Freedom" and "Manners/Black hole".
Great reaction and you picked up on some details. Their last concert in cront of a crowd was Feb 14 2020 and fortunately there are several great videos from that concert...Play, Domination, Freedom, Choose Me and Wondeland are all great and all different. Play and Domination were played back to back and have a lot of crowd engagement. They are also great videos for watching Saiki work a crowd and the members do get their own moments to shine. Play in particular is great for bass.

with Band Maid you have a heavy rock band that can move from jazz to heavy metal to pop punk and everything in-between this is because as a band they are insanely talented. it also helps having arguably the best female drummer lead and bass guitarist in japan. Don't You Tell Me LIVE VERSION has an great bass v lead guitar duel that in some reality is still going on
Hi. I've been a subscriber for a long time, and occasional Patreon supporter - I'm so glad you got around to Band-Maid (I actually never thought you would). They are hard rock, with many other influences including metal, but they are not really a metal band. But they sure can tear up the stage! I think Lex would enjoy the Domination official live video.
Their live song "Freedom" is one that features an energetic drum solo (I was going to request that one, but the volume on the following guitar solo was lacking.) Many people start with the live "Domination" first. The live songs "Dice" and "Play" are good for bass, and the live "onset" is an instrumental that shows everybody off. I think they are playing in Phoenix in October. The second guitarist is rhythm guitar and also a vocalist. I've seen videos of her engaging the audience between sets while on tour. She is the one who started the group.
@@Puyax01 Yeah, Akane hates drum solos. It took her bandmates a lot of effort to convince her to have some. She's a team player, and she has an amazing talent to compose her drum parts in such a way as to support the music in the best possible way. She is an ideal drummer for a band. She does not try to steal the show, but I often end up concentrating on her drumming when listening to BAND-MAID. It's like the bones in the body: hundreds of them, and each one is holding a certain muscle or tendon in place, to allow the whole body of the song to dance in the most graceful way.
Yes, but even the non-official stuff is also normally OK to react to. Many people have reacted to the videos from that Chinese site, or even some privately shared videos. Of course, it would not be correct to react to the videos from BAND-MAID Prime, but otherwise, it's usually OK to use the videos which were released on their Blu-Rays coming with De Lux editions, etc.
As you can already tell Band Maid has dedicated fans called Maidiacs and we are world wide and love them dearly they are a band that comes along once in generation.
Been waiting for you to find BAND-MAID. They have dozens and dozens of great Rock music and FUN performances and MV's. Their Lives are on another level. So continue with DOMINATION-LIVE and ONSET-LIVE and PLAY-LIVE. Make sure Lex gets to see MISA the barefoot bass assassin (because she plays bare foot and murders her lead bass) when you do the Lives. Kanami is the lead guitar and composer extraordinaire and usually eeks out a solo in each song. With an amazing 120+ song catalog you will never be at a loss for great current Rock music. The have an EP coming out in a few weeks and will be touring the US in October. I'll be there in Philly and Jersey. Hope to see you there. The Awesome BAND-MAID will be dominating the States. Peace.
I think you will fall in love with this band the more songs you react to. Band-Maid is a hard rock band but they pretty much play all genres. You will find some of the songs are very jazzy and blues-influenced which you mentioned that's your thing. Also, your wife will most definitely appreciate this band because their music is very bass guitar focused. Their bassist "Misa" is so highly praised and one of the very best out there.
MISA MISA MISA!!! 😉🤘 Yes, BAND-MAID has a few songs which are jazz-influenced. "Wonderland" is one of them, I would say. "start over" is another, but many people don't like it because of the MV-the story of that damned wretch acting hysterically and destroying her relationship is not something pleasant... well, at least for me. But the song itself is amazing. It's a pity they have removed acoustic CATHARSIS from their official channel. It would be very nice if they publish two or three songs from that ACOUSTIC OKYUJI for everyone to see. It was an amazing show.
Here are the names of the band members. Kanami(Mincho) - Lead Guitar, Misa(The Assassin) - Bass, Miku(Little Pigeon) - Rhythm Guitar and Creator of Band-Maid, Akane - Drummer Extraordinaire, and Saiki - Lead Singer. Do not even try to single one out. They are all great with an incredible chemistry, unlike any other band. You will not find a bad song by them. I really love bandmaid a lot especially miku, she was such a great inspiration to me and I'm really glad that to be part of bandmaid family. Their music is astonishing & agreesive a lot po💛💙✨
One of the best all-around presentations I have ever seen a TH-cam reactor do. You didn't have what you were reacting to. On something the size of a postage stamp. And the volume and audio of what you were reacting to. Was nice clean and loud. Your commentaries were thoughtful and decent. And you could still see you, while the performance was going on. In my humble opinion, a home run presentation. Her name is Tono, Kanami Tono. And she eats guitar solos for breakfast. P.S. Band Maid since 2013-2014. Making rock and roll great again. Look forward to your next Band Maid reaction. Stay safe and be well always ! 😜
They will tour the US in Oct., 2022. From Aftershock (Sac) to Chicago, 14 venues in all. Houston, DC, and NJ still not completely sold out. Great rxn, Po!
And away we go! Welcome to Band-Maid, Nick. I REALLY hope you show Lex. She's gonna love Band-Maid. "Play" or "Domination" would be great if you want to stay with the live stuff, but really, you just can't go wrong. Thanks Nick!
Oh, your wife plays bass? She will want to pay special attention to BAND-MAID, and more specifically MISA, the bassist. MISA is a phenomenal player and a true artist on the bass. Like Kanami on lead guitar, she is always doing something that both stands out and still perfectly fits in throughout the whole song. And make sure you watch her hands to see her pick tucking technique when she instantly goes from picking to slapping in the blink of an eye. 'Domination' live has a good, but brief view of this technique in action. I also want to recommend the 2-for-1 live performance of 'Manners' & 'Black Hole'. 'Manners' starts off with a new rhythm section intro and is very bass prominent throughout. Looking forward to seeing more BAND-MAID reactions. Cheers!
Hello there and welcome to the fascination that is Band-Maid. For me personally they are the TOP band from Japan right now.(maybe worldwide) They had an AMAZING last year and this year continues to be great. In 2021They were featured in an Netflix movie: Kate, brought out an very successful album, did a lot of online shows that were watched all around the globe and had an own radioshow. So i would say: Also they are around for 8+ years now and were always really talented, they now start to get really big, especially outside of Japan, the fanbase is big. Writing their own songs since 2016, really versatile and creative, fun to watch and listen too, really really hard workers and just overall great music/entertainment. Have fun discovering them, it is totally worth it falling into that pigeon hole! Greetings from Germany
LG
Welcome to the phenomena of Band-Maid now for an info dump Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato. At the time she had just left the Idol Group, Lil Cumin and she didn't like the type of music she had been performing. She approached her management agency with the idea of making an actual band playing rock music but dressed as maids. She had worked in a Maid Cafe and thought the image of maids playing rockin music would create what she called "The Gap" between what you see and what you hear. The Management company was like Ok, go ahead. Miku then looked around and found Kanami a singer/songwriter who was posting her own videos on the internet. Miku contacted her and Kanami thought the idea was cool and agreed to join. Miku then asked if Kanami knew a drummer who might be interested. Kanami had worked with Akane in the past and literally walked over to Akane's apartment and asked her. Akane was actually hesitant as she had worked in an "All Girl Group" before and didn't enjoy it as it wasn't the type of music she wanted to play. After hearing a Demo, Akane was like ok, but was still slightly hesitant because of the "Maid Outfits", but she agreed to give it a try. Akane was asked if she knew a bass player and she had gone to Tokyo School of Music with MISA and had worked a couple of jobs with her. So Misa was contacted and after she heard a demo she was like I like the music, but she also was hesitant about the "Maid Outfits", but she relented and joined in as she really wanted to play the kind of music she heard in the demo. Now we have the "Core" members. I'm not too sure about the part but if I am wrong other Maidiacs will correct me in the comments. The 4 members worked out some songs and a setlist and from my understanding, they had actually performed 2 or 3 times with just Miku on main vocals. I may be wrong on that so don't take that as canon. Miku after those performances felt that her voice wasn't powerful enough to really perform the songs she wanted. So she approached her management company again and asked if they had any singers who weren't in other projects. Saiki was signed to the same management company and had done some work as a backup singer and dancer and was asked if she would be interested in auditioning for this new group which currently had 4 members and she would be the fifth. (I'm not sure about this part as I can't find the comment I read over on Reddit) She had been a member of a group with 8 other people and HATED it. So she listened to the demo and thought "Cool" because she liked the music. Now we come to the tricky part. Miku KNEW that if Saiki was told about the "Maid Outfits" she would say NO WAY!, so they didn't tell her. They told her they would have "Cool Clothes", and she never met Miku until a few days before they had a contracted performance. She wasn't told about the "Maid Outfits" until I believe it was 2 days before the performance, and she had considered backing out, but she had signed the contract. So the Ladies, went and did the performance and Saiki really, REALLY liked the crowds reaction and the music they were performing. She DIDN'T like the apron she wore so it got ditched after the first performance. And you now have the beginnings of the BEST LIVE HARD ROCK BAND in the WORLD! ALL HAIL BAND MAID!!!!! Now that we have the Full band, it was felt that there needed to be a second guitar. Saiki was like, "Not Me, No Way." So Miku said, "I'll do it.", at first that was literally all she did, was hold the guitar and mime playing it, until Akane said, if you are going to hold it, you NEED to learn to play it. And Miku said, "Ok.", and Kanami started to teach Miku how to play. The Ladies released their first album in 2014 "Maid in Japan" which only charted to #26 in Japan.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning" On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence. "Thrill"... The band was getting ready to release their first music video and the choice was between "Love, Passion, Matador" and "Thrill" and the ladies chose Thrill. This became the seminal moment of Band Maid. Because their second album hadn't even charted, the record company was seriously considering disbanding the Ladies and switching them to other projects. (In fact they had Kanami and Akane work with Mochi to Cheese thinking that when Band Maid cratered they could use them in another band). However about 6 months after the video's release, a Facebook page "JRock Radio" posted the video to their timeline. And the video went viral. Having over a million views in just a few short weeks. The Ladies Twitter page got so many hits they thought their page had been hacked. Their TH-cam channel also started getting more and more subscribers and views to Thrill. Now the ladies knew where their fans wanted them to go. Harder Rock, less pop. And history was Maid. The following info is from a comment left by TH-cam user @DanW60 Thrill was from their album New Beginning which was released in November, 2015. They didn't write any of the songs or lyrics on the album and it was only 33 minutes. As mentioned, Miku didn't even know how to play guitar at the time. The album went nowhere in Japan and their small label called Gump was about to drop them. Gump's plan was to keep Miku and Saiki as a singing and dancing duo and let the rest go. Then a miracle happened. The music video for Thrill became a huge hit on TH-cam, especially in the west. Band-Maid was saved and they changed labels to Crown Stones (a sub-label to a really big Japanese media company called Nippon Crown). Their 2016 album, Brand New maid, peaked at #19 on the Japanese charts but only one song was written by Kanami and it was only 31 minutes in length. Finally, in January 2017, they released the album Just Bring It which was a full album at 50 minutes. More importantly, 9 of the 13 songs were written by Kanami. In my opinion, it was the first true Band-Maid album. The album got as high as #16 in Japan and also charted in the UK. The next 3 albums - World Domination, Conqueror and Unseen World - all charted top 10 in Japan and charted overseas. All the songs were written by Kanami. She is the one that has pushed Misa and Akane to be as good as they are now, and also very successfully taught Miku to play guitar.
Great reaction Nick. You are going to love these ladies! I just want to add something that sealed the deal to me with this band - apart from their awesome music. They are really nice lovely people. There is absolutely no ego in this band. It is obvious they love each other, which is amazing after 9 years of recording and gigging together! They love their fans and we love them. As you go deeper into the pigeon-hole you may watch some interviews by them, they are funny, fun and very sweet people (and slightly crazy). They bring pure joy to the world.
Oh yes! Speaking about their love for the fans: the song "about Us" is a real love letter to us all, especially the Maidiacs of the West. Saiki was crying when singing it.
Welcome to the tip of the pigeon hole my friend, this band is the real deal, a sisterhood forged in the rock and roll trenches, their output is prodigious and diverse but no matter what they always entertain. Enjoy your journey I think you'll find that the more you know them the more you'll love them - Viva the Maids peace and love Po 👍🎼🥁🎸🎤🍻
Mincho's talent is her mastery of all genres of music and her ability to cleverly incorporate and evolve them within the framework of hard rock. She seems to be constantly learning from new and different things, without being attached to a style she likes. Someone even found the rhythms of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and the melody of Bartók's orchestral piece The Miraculous Mandarin in the music of Different. One can only assume that they have studied all kinds of music, such as the use of jazz-like rhythms and harmony in the backing vocals. Not only the technique, but also the expression of sound, dynamics, tempo changes, etc., and the clever way of making music, as if it were a symphony or a concerto, seem to break with the old hard rock style and re-create and evolve it to suit the modern age. It may be an exaggeration, but she may be revolutionising the world of hard rock.
Good to have you on board. You got it right, they have a hard rock core but mix it a lot other styles (pop, punk, metal, jazz, blues you name it). Sometimes even all of them in one song ;-)
Miku (rhythm guitar/backing vocals) worked for a time in a traditional Japanese Maid Cafe. So, when she conceived of and put the band together, she used the maid uniforms and play a on words to come up with Band Maid.
This band is crazy good in front of an audience. Ive seen a few FanCams of them at smaller venues and they bring the energy still. They arent as Theatric as Nightwish of Wagakki Band, but are perhaps the most entertaining band for shear raw enthusiasm. Its contagious lol
Welcome to the pigeon hole buddy... This band are well diverse and dynamically good.....they are phenomenal artist....they write their songs since the management let d thier thing....
"There's so much going on" is so spot on. When you delve more into their catalogue, you'll understand just how relevant that is. It will take multiple listens to absorb all of the different elements and layers. Yes high end production and sound and lighting 2 nd to none. Touring later in the year in the U.S. with mostly sold out shows including 4000 capacities in the NE. I would get your tickets now in 1 of the remaining ones and book your flight if not nearby. 1 heck of a show and this is a real example of it.
Band-Maid consider themselves Hard Rock, though some of their songs are Metal influenced. But they are Genreless, or rather, a genre unto themselves. They have so many influences; Pop, Rock, Punk, Funk, Jazz and Metal. They flow effortlessly from on to the other, sometimes within the same song. But if you want to check out their more Metal influenced songs try 'Black Hole', 'Different' and especially 'Rinne'. It's like a Punky, Thrash Metal. But don't neglect their other songs. They have everything from Power Pop to Soft Acoustic Ballads and everything in between. I'm not sure how many videos there are. Many were taken off TH-cam ahead of a DVD release, tough some are on Billibilli now. But they have over 100 songs in their catalogue.
Band-Maid is absolute incredible!!!!! They always put you in a good mood! Any of their live videos are fantastic, but to start, you have to go with Domination (Official Live Video) and Freedom (Official Live Video). But they also have great MVs! Dice is an amazing song!
As the other Maidiacs have said, this is an early song (2014) when they were required to work with songwriters and still learning much about their craft. As you said, it’s extremely well executed and they only get better and better at that as you hear newer songs. But it’s quite a simple song structurally and sonically compared to their newer songs, particularly the songs off their last two full albums and last few small (2-3 song) releases. If you want a contrast, you could jump yo their latest release - the song “Sense” - official MV. It’s a song they wrote as the opening theme for an Anime and it has what I’d call small prog-elements throughout. Or the Song “No God” - official live video - is really good, somehow proggy, pop-punk & reminiscent of Motörhead, all at the same time. Glad you liked it. Rock On 🤘🏼
Welcome to the Band Maid universe Nick ... they are probably the most musically trained and gifted band I've ever heard (74yo so I heard a few lol) .. if you want to be treated to a sample of their individual talents try "Onset" from the same concert, an instrumental track that just steams along. Saiki is a brilliant vocalist but "Onset" gives the other girls full-rein to smash it out. Nice addition to the site, keep up the good work :)
As a counterpart to "onset," they should have published acoustic "Puzzle" from the same ZEPP Tokyo 2018 show, where this performance of "REAL EXISTENCE" was the song #25 out of 26. The acoustic "Puzzle" at that show really showcases Saiki's voice.
Oh your wife is a bass player? I highly suggest the BAND MAID's songs "No God" and "onset" the latter of which is an instrumental. but yeah MISA is my favorite bass player right now and thats coming from a huge fan of Geddy Lee and Chris Squire (RIP). Also for another awesome Japanese female bass players try Gacharic Spin -- Mindset, their bass player F Chopper Koga is awesome.
Welcome to the Maidiacs!! Believe it or not, that's just the tip of the huge iceberg of musical greatness from this incredible group of ladies and the more you hear from them, the more you'll love 'em! Some suggestions: Domination, Play, Freedom, Onset (Instrumental), Turn Me On, Don't You Tell Me, Moratorium - all Live, because that's when they really shine! Thanks! 🤘🤩🤘
Just a quick "hello" and "welcome" to the pigeon-hole of Band-Maid from the German Maidiacs division. :) I'm glad to see and hear you enjoyed this performance, and also nice to hear that you want to take a closer look at their catalogue. You will be surprised how much variety these fantastic musicians have to offer. However, one thing rarely changes. These ladies are smiling and having fun doing what they do, which not only translates to the people in the audience, but also to the viewers at the screens. For me, this band is the reason why I listen to rock music again after a really long time. Greetings and till next time. 🙋🏻♂️🤘🏻 _____________________ 「 _'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!'_ 」 --- from *BAND-MAID* 'Manners' 🕊️
GJ Nick 👍 If you want to see them live , they will be touring the US . Starting in October with the Aftershock Festival, in Sacramento. A lot of the shows are already sold out. But I believe House of Blues, in Houston TX still has general admission tickets available. Thanks for the BM reaction and definitely looking forward to seeing more. ✌️
Thank you for sharing this live version. It's really energetic and fun. The bassist, "barefoot assassin" Misa is literally killing it, the drummer "Jimmy Page certified" Akane is such a monster, two vocalists have a great contrast and the lead guitar, great composer Kanami is a hardrock Mozart (but she's too shy, the solo is way too short!). Also, please check out the fan recorded live video so that you'd be able to know how good they're playing instruments.
I call their music punk and metal influenced hard rock with pop vocals. A fusion of everything rock. Check out Onset and Domination Live from pre-COVID live concerts. Their recent live shows were online because of COVID. From them check out Manners/BLACK HOLE and No God. Also they have MVs that are really good. Blooming, Different, Sense, and Renni are good examples.
When you manage to isolate each instrument, it's a completely different experience. All these girls have a long way since when this was performed. "They are bandmaid, they play bandmaid" bandmaid journey is heck of a journey, which alone sets them apart from many other bands. When you listen to their cds there's no fillers, you just don't skip any of their songs.
Welcome NicknLex.. You need to get Lex in here with you.. She will love them and their bass player (Misa, The bare foot assasin) Over 100 songs so you may be here for a while.. Enjoy.. Best wishes from France..
@@guitarzen5999 As a fellow RUSH fan I will admit they sound nothing alike, but if you look closely into Band Maid you will find they share many of the same qualities. I stand by my statement. 🤘🕊
Misa is the bassist, she basically plays a lead bass. Kanami likes to keep her guitar quieter in the mix (a shame for us Kanami fans) she has no ego to bruise. You have a lot of fun coming your way. Band Maid are great ! great reaction. You should check out the 2 song video Manners/Blackhole from one of their online concerts to see their versatility and more of Misa's great bass work. Enjoy !!
If you're into 70s rock now too, check out the double-feature clip "Manners/Black Hole" by Band Maid. It's live, but (sadly) without an audience (I'll let you guess as to why) : th-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/w-d-xo.html The line "I'm not sure what type of music they play yet" is probably one of the most utered ones on first-time Band Maid reaction videos (along with 'the bassists thou ... and the drummer ... !"). Band Maid are basically playing Band Maid music. They're as far from a One Trick Pony as can be.
Yes, the ever popular all female Japanese metal, I figured we would get around to this band. You know that the Japanese females are invading the United States, lol. There's still Aldious, Cyntia, Bridear, Mary's Blood, Nemophila left to do. The entire female Japanese armada.
Nice reaction! Next, You should watch "Domination live", "onset live", "play live" and "Without holding back" with your wife. Because you and your wife can enjoy the inexhaustible base play. "I still seek revenge" is also good. This is a funky base. Highly recommended.
Hi Nick great video footage like you said of this band playing live. Definitely need to hear more. Maybe a ballad to see a different side to them ? During the 80's I was and still am into a rock band from Japan who were massive here in England, called "Vow Wow" They sounded a cross between Rainbow / Deep Purple with the synth and a vocalist like Ian Gillan. The lead guitarist was utterly stunning playing like the guitarist I just heard, so you can imagine in the 80's ... way ahead of his time ! Incredible albums. I have their albums on vinyl but actually bought recently a Japanese import cd of "Vow Wow V" [ 5 ] which is simply one heck of a rock album. All these years later it is still an awesome album. Byee Jim X
if you like to hear how phenomenally talented this ladies are check out( Onset) or ( Without Holding Back) both Instramentals. Or MV Blooming and Choose Me. but really Band Maid us so Phenomenal you can just push play on either their live music video's or MV'S
I recommend you do the double feature of Manners and Black Hole from their live online concert with your wife, 2 very different songs and Misa (bass) dominates.
BAND-MAID calls themselves hard rock, so that's what I call them. MISA, the five-bass guitarist, is the reason why I sold my Fender amp and cab and switched to Orange. Her style is unlike any bass player I've heard before. She inserts little runs in places I wouldn't have thought to insert anything. This was recorded in 2018 at Zepp Tokyo, a venue that sadly closed its doors on January 1, 2022. The whole concert was available as a bonus DVD on their single for "Starting Over," but that was a limited run. They later released the show on the subscription service, BAND-MAID Prime.

A very rare video of the Queen Saiki without High Heels. 😂😂 She lost them in the song before ( Freedom, from this concert, also available as a video - there is also a new version ), by taking an unexpected bath in the crowd. You can see, after the solo she did have them back.
Nick, I hope you realise that we are all holding our breathe waiting for you to react to another Band Maid song ( Manners & Black Hole) with Lex, I'm sure you wouldn't want to feel responsible for the possible fatalities if you leave it too long.😱
@@NicknLex it's a very odd thing that despite listening to their songs ALL the time, that I ( and I assume others) get such enjoyment out of watching other people discover this amazing band and I assure you you ain't seen nothing yet. Thanks in advance, you're a gent.
FROM JAPAN ◆ Thank you for your reaction to BAND-MAID. BAND-MAID is a real hard rock band. BAND-MAID is celebrating its 9th year of formation. BAND was formed by a girl who came to Tokyo from a local city Kumamoto of Japan to become a singer when she was about 19 years old. Five unique and talented girls gathered. The members have not changed, and they are continuing their efforts to improve their playing ability. They are constantly writing new songs and cool songs. Three new songs were released at the end of October. BAND-MAID is a hard rock band, but it's a very diverse band. Listen to different types of songs. 1 Thrill : The first music video that saved them from dissolution. Classic rock 2014 2 Sense : The theme song of the anime "Platinum End". Dramatic, fast hard rock with a classic intro. 2021.10 3 Bubble : A tribute to the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, funky rock 4 Different : First anime opening song, new sense of high-speed rock. Anime is "Log Horizon 3rd season". 2020.12 5 Daydreaming : Beautiful power ballad. Saiki and Miku vocals and Kanami's guitar solo are wonderful. 6 Dice : Rhythmic hard rock singing women's independence. The girl blindfolded in the dark removes the blindfold at the end of the song and starts walking into the light. 7 about us : A gift for fans who cannot meet in a pandemic. Beautiful ballad. 2021.02 8 Freedom : A power rock that walks around the stage and conveys a smile. The transition from drum solo to lead guitar is the best. 9 Manners : Declaration to create new hard rock while inheriting classic rock. Cool hard rock. Rock'n'Roll never die. 10 alone : The song they wrote, composed and released for the first time. Medium speed Hard Rock 2016 11 Secret My Lips & Secret Maiko Lips : Funky Hard Rock. A gift for fans of April Fool's Day . 12 Blooming : Vocals and chorus are impressive, and various types of music are fused. 13 RINNE : High-speed rhythmic heavy rock, inspired by the Japanese horror movie "RINNE : Reincarnation". RINNE (Reincarnation) is also found in Eastern thought and Buddhist thought. 14 onset : Instrumental song for lead singer Saiki breaks, their great playing power and harmony. 15 Play : A song composed as an instrumental song, but Miku added lyrics as Saiki liked it. With different intros depending on the live. 16 Before Yesterday : Record of the first overseas performance, Sakura-Con in Seattle 2016. Melodic Rock with great lyrics. 17 Choose me : An insert song of the concert scene the Netflix movie KATE, they appeared as BAND MAID. Cool rock song. 18 Dragon Cries : The only song produced by Tony Visconti. It's not their lyrics, but it sings about the future of human society and the earth. Great Heavy Classic Rock . 19 After Life : A homage to the maid caffe and band formation where Miku worked. BAND-MAID Hard Rock . 20 Corallium : The song that Saiki wrote all the lyrics for the first time. Hip pop style hard rock. Added ★ Peace & Love ・ POGO : Founder Miku Kobato's solo project. Pigeon saves the world. Funky pop rock.
I assure you Nick, as much as you regretted not knowing the tunes of Steely Dan, you will also regret not doing a reaction to Wagakki Band. I recommend giving them a listen : as a Dan, & Joni Mitchell, & Pat Metheny fan, I swear that Wagakki is on the same level of composition & instrument virtuosity. Yes all 8 of them are maestros of their axes. They combine Rock w/ traditional instruments, which blend better than one would think at first glance. Great mini orchestration & collaboration. Seriously
I guess there's a discussion going on, which of these Japanese "Girl-bands" is better ... like always, when bands play similar music ..... if there's a discussion Love Bites vs Bandmaid I have to say, I like Love Bites better, especially because of the 2 lead guitars duelling .... with some fantasy reminding me of Judas Priest
You want to see a band investment in the stage, check out Babymetal. Over the top. Some of the best and most extensive stage designs ever. Stages that move from one side of the arena to another, pulled by minions of the Fox God tugging on chains. Floating Fox heads with lasers shooting from the eyes, 5 story stages with platforms on the top and bottom, with the bottom platform spinning, football field length runways with platforms that move from end to the other, floating pyramid frames flying out over the audience, pyro that would make Rammstein do a double take, and more light and laser effects than has ever been put into one venue. Saw them at the LA Forum. I was wondering if there were any lights left in LA for anyone else to use that night.

Jazzy, bluesy, groovy or just plain punk. Lol
Yes
And many songs are represented with over 40 well produced music videos. th-cam.com/users/BANDMAID
Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:
ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” th-cam.com/video/nAdWnIRjGak/w-d-xo.html

Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 (The last two are on bandmaidprime.tokyo and DVD/BD/CD)
And some of the better quality 2019 tour Fan vids are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues:
Taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: th-cam.com/video/__1th7ctgMo/w-d-xo.html

If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo
Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid.

Band-Maid Members:
Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies.

Band-Maid are the best current band. Thx for your nice reaction 👍💪🤙
Yes!!! You found the best hard rock band in the world!!!
Little known fact. BAND-MAID had to stop playing about 20 seconds into this song to reattach Kanami's head.

with Band Maid you have a heavy rock band that can move from jazz to heavy metal to pop punk and everything in-between this is because as a band they are insanely talented. it also helps having arguably the best female drummer lead and bass guitarist in japan.
Don't You Tell Me LIVE VERSION has an great bass v lead guitar duel that in some reality is still going on
Super hyped about this band. Can't wait to see more 🎀
Arguable indeed. There are lots of skilled female drummers and bassists in Japan.
I couldn't agree more. Those songs are the catapult to start the journey.
Maybe is me but that solo is not that big of a deal. Akane's fills are more impressive like in Warning, Black Hole, ...
@@VladimirChupin Well said, Vladimir !
Typically There is no problem with copyright problems on Band Maid when the music comes from their official TH-cam channel.
Band-Maid is a rabbit hole, and they have some rabid fans. You can pick almost any song from them and it will be a banger.

So continue with DOMINATION-LIVE and ONSET-LIVE and PLAY-LIVE. Make sure Lex gets to see MISA the barefoot bass assassin (because she plays bare foot and murders her lead bass) when you do the Lives.
Yes, BAND-MAID has a few songs which are jazz-influenced.

Welcome to the fandom! I suggest the following Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Warning (live)
If you want to see their range, check out the live video of Manners and Black Hole. Two totally different songs but so Band-Maid.
Thank you for reacting to Band-Maid.
Amazing talent. Thanks ✨🤪
For me personally they are the TOP band from Japan right now.(maybe worldwide)
They had an AMAZING last year and this year continues to be great.
LG
Welcome to the phenomena of Band-Maid now for an info dump
Band Maid was started in 2013 by Miku Kobato.
Then in 2015 they released "New Beginning"
On New Beginning was the song that changed Band Maid's entire existence.
The following info is from a comment left by TH-cam user @DanW60
Thrill was from their album New Beginning which was released in November, 2015.
This is a very informative and well written Band-Maid bio. I think you've covered every highlight from 2013 to present day.
@@skippyo3893 I tried. If I have made any mistakes I ask for others to send me the correct info so I can update the file.
@7:32 Misa was interacting with Saiki because Saiki had lost her shoes and as you know Misa never wears shoes so they were joking about it.
Best all around rock band on the planet IMHO the live video of “Manners/ Black Hole “ gives a good contrast in sounds from them.
The maids are just next level at everything they do. -Thank you Miku!
Nice reaction man would like to see a reaction from both of you and your wife to this band :)
Coming soon. I'll try and get her tomorrow to react to some band maid 😍
I come from the Netherlands and saw Band-Maid in 2018 at Feierwerk in Munich, Germany, So good.
Yes!! Band Maid!!! October 29th, Boston!
Hardest Rock'n Maid Band in the World!!
Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!
I'm glad to see and hear you enjoyed this performance, and also nice to hear that you want to take a closer look at their catalogue.

Wish they came to Denver !!

Welcome to Band Maid!
Over 100 songs in their catalog for you to explore!!
🤘😎👍 LOVEBITES and Band-Maid, keeping Heavy Metal/Metal going strong. Thanks Nick.
Welcome NicknLex.. You need to get Lex in here with you.. She will love them and their bass player (Misa, The bare foot assasin) Over 100 songs so you may be here for a while.. Enjoy.. Best wishes from France..
Great job Nick, I knew you would love them once you heard them. Simply put, Band Maid is not metal. What they ARE is this generations RUSH! 🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂
Awesome 😎
Yeah I agree!
As a Rush fan, Band Maid is nothing like Rush and to compare them is absolutely absurd.
@@guitarzen5999 As a fellow RUSH fan I will admit they sound nothing alike, but if you look closely into Band Maid you will find they share many of the same qualities. I stand by my statement. 🤘🕊
@@snowdog5895 You should post your statement on a Rush fan page and see what happens.😂
Is it pop, punk, rock, hard rock, jazz, or metal? It is all and none of it. Band-Maid is the genre.
This song has one of my favorite riffs of all time. So satisfying.
Best band on the planet 🎎🤘🎎🤘
Misa is the bassist, she basically plays a lead bass. Kanami likes to keep her guitar quieter in the mix (a shame for us Kanami fans) she has no ego to bruise. You have a lot of fun coming your way. Band Maid are great ! great reaction. You should check out the 2 song video Manners/Blackhole from one of their online concerts to see their versatility and more of Misa's great bass work. Enjoy !!
Next live songs Freedom, On Set(instrumental), Play, Thrill, Domination, Don't You Tell Me, Secret My Lips,
If you're into 70s rock now too, check out the double-feature clip "Manners/Black Hole" by Band Maid. It's live, but (sadly) without an audience (I'll let you guess as to why) : th-cam.com/video/iaf94nNSRGE/w-d-xo.html
The line "I'm not sure what type of music they play yet" is probably one of the most utered ones on first-time Band Maid reaction videos (along with 'the bassists thou ... and the drummer ... !"). Band Maid are basically playing Band Maid music. They're as far from a One Trick Pony as can be.
This whole channel started with 70's rock and prog. Just started with the metal reactions 😅
@@NicknLex funny you should say that : the first song in the clip I mentioned is rock, the second one is, in my understanding, prog rock ;)
Please if you will react to Band-maid with Lex you guys need to check Manners/Black hole Live
Will do 😜
Please also check out another amazing Japanese all female Metal band called Nemophila and their newest song Adabana!
For just a moment I thought I'd beaten @Dragon Phly to mentioning Nemophila. Then I scrolled a bit more.
@@Oedwak Haha. Dragon Phly is probably Nemophila's best ambassador.
Grande NICK saludos AGUANTE
I recommend you do the double feature of Manners and Black Hole from their live online concert with your wife, 2 very different songs and Misa (bass) dominates.
Welcome to Band-Maid!
If your other half likes and plays bass then "Manners/Black Hole" live is gonna get her going and you too

A very rare video of the Queen Saiki without High Heels. 😂😂 She lost them in the song before ( Freedom, from this concert, also available as a video - there is also a new version ), by taking an unexpected bath in the crowd. You can see, after the solo she did have them back.
Nick, I hope you realise that we are all holding our breathe waiting for you to react to another Band Maid song ( Manners & Black Hole) with Lex, I'm sure you wouldn't want to feel responsible for the possible fatalities if you leave it too long.😱
It seems as though some lives may be spared! 😜
Classic rock 2014
2 Sense : The theme song of the anime "Platinum End". Dramatic, fast hard rock with a classic intro. 2021.10
3 Bubble : A tribute to the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, funky rock
4 Different : First anime opening song, new sense of high-speed rock. Anime is "Log Horizon 3rd season". 2020.12
5 Daydreaming : Beautiful power ballad.
8 Freedom : A power rock that walks around the stage and conveys a smile.
The transition from drum solo to lead guitar is the best.
9 Manners : Declaration to create new hard rock while inheriting classic rock. Cool hard rock. Rock'n'Roll never die.
10 alone : The song they wrote, composed and released for the first time. Medium speed Hard Rock 2016
11 Secret My Lips & Secret Maiko Lips : Funky Hard Rock.
I swear it sounds like the opening theme to some anime series. I do enjoy this music for sure. Fun stuff!

Hi, I enjoyed your video. That's great. Thank you😆💞🎁
Subbed for more Band-Maid. More BPM (bonnet per minute) than any other band! Also can't wait until you get to Nemophila.
Seriously
Welcome to the Band-Maid family!
My suggestion is to watch:
Dice: Music Video
Domination (Live)
ONSET (LIVE)
Nice reaction! Domination would be a great follow up.
Good reaction!
Aguante Band Maid ! More Reacts !
