- Ever wondered how to conduct a chemical test for the presence of colourless and odourless gases? Watch this to find out how!
At Fuse School, teachers and animators come together to make fun & easy-to-understand videos in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Maths & ICT. Our OER are available free of charge to anyone. Make sure to subscribe - we are going to create 3000 more!
The Fuse School is currently running the Chemistry Journey project - a Chemistry Education project by The Fuse School sponsored by Fuse. These videos can be used in a flipped classroom model or as a revision aid. Find our other Chemistry videos here:

Summary:
1, Hydrogen: "Pop" sound when taking a flaming splint (matchstick) near the reaction vessel.
2, Oxygen: A "glowing" splint put near the mouth of the reaction vessel, then it will turn out flaming again.
3, Carbon dioxide: Test with lime water, a positive result is turning out a milky solution.
4, Ammonia: Turns red litmus paper to blue.
5, Chlorine: Turns blue litmus paper to red then bleach.
Ammonia also forms white smoke called ammonium chloride in the presence of hydrochloric acid ......
The world needs more people like you, thanks
I need to do this for school work sooo...

Thank you very much
Amazing love this understood everything in last two min before test
Thanks so much for the video! This basically explained to me all of my chemistry topic
Wow, thanks so much for the video :> really needed this for my Chemistry subject.
What has happend to you 10 years later?
Hey it’s been 10 years! Where you at now?
Revising for end terms, always better with your videos!
Glad to hear that 🙂
This video was very helpful. I love the graphics. It really helped me to understand the differences between the gases.
THANK YOU!! DID NOT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING UNTIL THIS VID. 😣😉😉
Glad we could help! :-)
i swear fuseschool is the best
the test for ammonia with Hydrochloric acid is not commonly used due to the product (ammonium chloride) being moderately hazardous
hope this helped anyone :)
Nice! Dumb question but how I do a make a "glowing, not burning" split?
Light it up, then blow it out
I think you extinguish a flaming splint and the embers will glow? Idk
Thanks fm a Teacher. I have my Sunday Science School in 4 hours fm now.
In the presence of oxygen
The glowing splinter relights also because oxygen supports combustion ☺ but the one u told is also correct
Very straight forward thanks
thats cool but have you tried leaving revision til the day before exams
Literally me right now
@@tei7533 good luck bro

May i know what app or page you use to make this amazing illustration?
We use Adobe After Effects 🙂
l have a Question why is chlorien turns blue litums proper red🤔
thnks
PLEASE HELP ME!! Are these chemical changes? and if they are, how?
Rhea Johnson I hope it isn't too late anyways..yeah they all are chemical reactions. The gases are produced as products. Ammonia from ammonium salts plus acids cause ammonia to be liberated,.
Check this www.docbrown.info/page13/ChemicalTests/ChemicalTestsg.htm
Prenay not too late, just 8 months late
done with the exam?
How can I separate gases by diffusion
really helpful
Glad to hear that 🙂
Does anyone know the equation of relight glowing splint?? (it’s a Hw question)
thank you so much.....
Love it

i have a Question why is hydrogen and carbon dioxide colourless🤨
but Oxygen is so hard to achieve as most Oxygen made in school labs are so WEAK! I cannot get my splint reignite even if I mixed the correct chemicals!
This issue happened to Limewater test, as everything is so diluted.
Help!
