The fact that they did their singing training together for 2 years at college explains their attitude towards each other, they were very good friends.
If you want more like this there is their performance of Stabat mater dolorosa from the same concert. This is a real classical piece, the crowd loved it - it’s one of those things that is quite common for Symphonic metal fans to appreciate classical music!

And Simone is the primary and Floor sings most of the lower vocals. There are no egos concerning these two good friends.
This is a must see, it so blows my mind that they did this in the middle of of metal concert and the fans loved it and were so respectful.

Hi Inna, EPICA have been making music for 20 years, they have made 8 studio albums, many EPs and other releases, their singer is Simone Simons, she was 17 when she became the singer for EPICA in 2002
I agree with your comment about women supporting women, but in the music industry, band mates supporting each other like these two incredible friends do is rare. Epica was founded by a member of Floor's early band, After Forever, Mark Jansen (no relation) so there is a long relationship there. Floor and Simone have been friends for a long time, and it definitely shows. there is much love between Epica and Nightwish. Nightwish is a band whose magic ingredient is the love they have for each other, and how they push their members to the front for epic moments rather than trying to grab them for themselves. Epica is like that as well. You've picked the cream of the crop in which to fall in love.

That audience got an absolute treat that night. There is no doubt about it.
This is the song that brought me from Nightwish to Epica, when I first heard Consign to Oblivion I didn't like it at all, I'm not a fan of the growling, but now I like Mark's voice very much. What I am a little sorry about is the fact that I discovered Epica and Nightwish much too late.
That growl is why I don't like metal. The way Floor uses it with Nightwish, for example (quite briefly), I can live with that. To me, that growl is always like a beautiful voice being raped.

Haha, i will never understand that people always recommend "Consign to Oblivion" as first Epica song. I mean that song is maybe a good life performance if you are actually on the show, but musically for me it is really a mess and i think there are so much other better songs for a first impression.
Personally i discovered Nightwish around 1998 just like Within Temptation. Not sure about Epica but they were for me also always a mixed bag since i'm also not a fan of too much growling, so i love the songs where only Simone sings and the rest not that much. For the reason they were for long time always lower on my list, and i mostly just listened to "Tides of Time" and "Solitary Ground" for long years.

At the time of this concert, Floor hadn't joined Nightwish yet. She was with her own band ReVamp at the time and they were the support act for this concert, so everyone knew that she was there.
This performance is magical. I listen to it while driving almost every day. Since you've become an Epican, you should take in all the songs from this retrospect concert - they're all great. Unleashed and Design Your Universe are both fantastic. For a real visual, vocal and performance treat I also suggest Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 from Epica's Omega Live virtual concert.
And last, but not least, Stabat Mater Dolorosa (Floor and Simone again) from this same retrospect show.

Symphonic Metal has become my favourite kind of music, and there are so many great bands yet to discover. Nightwish and Epica, of course, but also Leaves' Eyes, Temperance, Ancient Bards, Within Temptation and (not existing any longer) After Forever and ReVamp (both with Floor Jansen). And I am sure many more I already have to discover. It is a quest I just have started - at the age of 65. But for good music you are never too old.

Altra bella ed entusiasta reazione. Floor e Simone oltre ad essere entrambe olandesi sono anche amiche da molti anni ed hanno avuto la medesima vocal coach. Inoltre uno dei due chitarristi degli Epica era insieme a Floor in una precedente band. Le due meravigliosi cantanti partecipano anche ad un progetto musicale di un genio musicale di nome Arjen Lucassen chiamato Ayreon dove sono presenti molti diversi musicisti e cantanti di altissimo livello. Una canzone con la partecipazione di Simone e Floor è "The day that the world breaks down" (11 cantanti nello stesso pezzo, un masterpiece credimi) che puoi trovare su You Tube. Ultima piccola notizia ...durante il concerto con Sancta Terra a cui hai appena reagito Simone era incinta al terzo/quarto mese ed è stata 3 ore sul palco.
You really should give *The Warning* a chance. Three rocking sisters from Monterrey, Mexico. They have played together for more than 10 years but are today only 23, 21, and 18 years old.
How can rocking chicks that age be worth listening to? After listening *The Warning - DISCIPLE Live at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX 08/29/2022* to th-cam.com/video/Wo0odllVq8g/w-d-xo.html I think that you will be able to answer that question yourself. Their sun is rising fast and last year they played over 100 gigs in America and this year they started by opening for *MUSE* at 4 shows in Mexico and now MUSE will have them open at least 5 shows in Europe this summer.
They will also open for *Jinjer* in Zürich in June. Trust me, they are the real deal and better live than in a studio. That's something *Halestorm* and *Three Days Grace* noticed when they toured with them last year.
Yess! Should definitely try The Warning! They are awesome. As a big Epica and Nightwish fan I strongly suggest checking them out.
I've seen both bands live, and it is rare that they have a poor sound quality or show in any shape or format.
NW and Within Temptation and Epica know how to make a great love concert.

And the group "the gathering" with the godmother of Dutch female frontwoman in metal (and inspiration to Floor) Anneke van Giersbergen. Then, I think you will have all the major players in Dutch metal frontwomen.
For me it was: Floor Janse, Nightwish, a few of Epica an Sabaton.

Inna, towards the end of this video you wondered why this concert was special that they brought on Floor. This is the Retrospect concert. It was not part of their regular concert tour. It is a special 10th anniversary concert. They normally don't have a full orchestra and choir on stage with them. The entire concert from start to finish is 2 hours and 45 minutes (approximately).

This whole concert with the full orchestra and choir is of an outstanding quality for the ears and eyes!
What to learn next? => You cannot discover symphonic metal without knowing the holy trinity of Nightwish, Therion and Epica.
I suggest : Therion, the song "Midgard" from the live "Budapest 2007". Celebrating women in metal, this song is a good example :-)

And wanna know how those two are so good…they’re literally valkyries, had all of time to get insanely good in all ways. Fight for, with and other mid…I mean earth and escorting our heroes. Jokes aside, they are both truly amazing and fit the descriptions of Valkyries. My opinion when Wagner wrote some of his stuff. Women like there two I’d what he had in mind.
I saw this song live in Athens last summer, unfortunately without Floor and without the choir so it wasn't as good as this version. Plus they went on stage like 19:00 and the sun was still up and bright and we all feared for Simone, she's so pale white that we thought she would burst into flames like a vampire!
Still was a great experience, just wish they went on stage later in the evening so they could perform their tricks that they have planned. They announced they had some tricks to perform but due to the heat and the sun was still up, they didn't do them!
Summer in Greece = not so good for live performances!
Just hope that Nightwish will do better this June :D

This is one of my favorite genres of music ....there are many good bands to check out in it. Of course Nightwish, Epica and Within Temptation are at the forefront but there are several other really great bands as well, Sirenia, Delain, Leaves' Eyes, After Forever, Visions of Atlantis, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Kamelot. The Gathering, Blackmore's Night and many more...

Listen to the ENTIRE 'Once' Album. It's a different singer, but Tarja's voice is just as wondrous as Floor or Simone's. Once is simply one of the greatest albums in rock and metal history....
This version is so much better than recording.
The most incredible part is that the guitar players were standing on risers like 2 feet in the air but still didn’t have the stage presence of Floor!

Yeah. Symphonic metal is definitely my favourite genre of music. There are so many more great bands for you to check out. Kamelot (they done one song with Simone, The Haunting), Delain (another Dutch band, Masters of Destiny or April Rain), Within Temptation (yet another Dutch band...Check out Angels or Faster, ), Visions of Atlantis (Master The Hurricane, Melancholy Angel or Heroes of Dawn are all great). You should also definitely check out Ayreon genre subverting artist that use a ton of guest vocalists (definitely check out "The Day that the world breaks down, you might even see a few familiar faces...🙃)
Queens of Symphonic metal, you have to listen more Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Blackbriar, Snow White Blood, Xandria, etc...
another beautiful female duet is Within Temptation and Metropole Orchestra - Somewhere Black Symphony, is not Nightwish or Epica, but is very good
Also as you heard and saw, these bands support each other. In America that is more rare because they all compete for same album sales against each other. That sums up the American capitalism at very ugly way. Here an Epica fan most likely buys NW and or WT album too. Because they all collab with each other, and features in others bands more.
