I miss this kind of stupid-funny movie. It's probably difficult for some people today to understand the innate harmlessness intended by this movie but for the rest of us it was a fun movie. Thanks for reviewing it.

It was definitely fun at the time. They don’t even make comedies anymore. I don’t remember the last one that came out:

Yeah, I loved the first three. It's hard to imagine how this was NOT aimed at kids yet had all the "Jonesey" jokes in it. Makes me wonder if their plan was for kids to beg their parents to take them to see it or get the video.

To be honest, apart from a couple of "suspect" moments, I think it still holds up for the most part ; the infamous "Blue Oyster Bar" scene is so ridiculous and in retrospect, downright naive, that I don't see anyone taking it to heart... though I'm too old to speak fòr the zoomer audience.

The film called police academy that came out in 1984 is about when the mayor of a crime ridden city loosens the restrictions on entering the police academy in order to get more cops on the street, all manner of oddball characters enlist to join the force. Among the cadets are suave Mahoney, hulking Moses Hightower, beautiful Karen Thompson, and sound effects generating larvell jones, who all have to show initiative and courage when they are faced with a tough situations out on patrol.
