The film called zapped that came out in 1982 is about high school whiz-kid Barney becomes a hit at prom when a lab explosion leaves him a psychic powers, but his parents aren’t so convinced by his new found fame.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and I thought what would I do if I had telekinetic powers...
And later I watched Carrie, and I recognized some similarities. And loved both films.

This is my favorite teen comedy that doesn't get much recognition, on a side note there was a cheap direct to video sequel in 1990 with the unoriginal title 'Zapped Again' starring none of the original cast except for the actress playing Ms. Burnhart but then in 2014 Disney did a remake in name only starring Zendaya but in this instance the powers come from a smartphone app.
I’ve seen the sequel. It’s SO bad. I didn’t know the Disney one was a remake. I may check it out. Thanks 🙏🏼

I don’t remember that. I must have missed the reference as I’d not seen Zapped until very recently. I’ll have to search for it. 🙏🏼

I just gave this a rewatch and man, Peyton is a total D-Bag. He was not a great friend to Barney and a total crapbag towards Heather’s character. He needed a little comeuppance of his own.

That’s the one from 2002. The first half is worth reviewing but the second half is a whole load of “proving her innocence” so I decided not to do that one.

They're from the movie Scared Topless. The blonde one is Cindy Lucas and the other is Danica Dillon.

Edit: Apparently Zapped did well enough to get a sequel almost 10 years later. Zapped Again was released in 1990 with a different cast including a guest appearance by Linda Blair.

@@JayHarangue he only did it that one year and I only watched for the novelty. The 2nd Trump Republican convention was sadly conventional. No Scott Baio from Happy Days sounding like he wrote and read his own speech off a first draft, no indecipherable bad English from Antonio Sabato Jr from the sci-fi channel John Carter movie with Traci Lords, and no coming out of the closet he hasn't been in for forever from Peter Theil kind of made the 2nd one an absolute snooze. Thankfully this year, Biden is wearing Travis Kelce's helmet making him look like he escaped his wrangler. So thankfully, politicians are still being unintentionally funny nerds to go along with their general maliciousness. Every politician is as ubiquitously villainous as a property developer in a movie from the 80s who can only be defeated with a dance off or sporting event.

I'm sorry you didn't seem to enjoy this movie. I'm also sorry to hear people are misreading you. I suppose that's a downside to being a public figure.
It can be hard to review an older movie like this one because it's almost impossible to not judge it with contemporary thinking. I like watching old movies including ones much older than this one but I often have to remind myself that things were done differently back then. If I can't keep things in context (especially with the racism topic) then I just don't watch it. In the 80's I think we were more relaxed (and ignorant) about movie logic so we let a lot of things slide more readily.
As for this movie, in my opinion it was just a male fantasy movie and as we know male fantasies are often silly and pervy. Nowadays it's best to keep those to yourself but in the 80's it was a way to make money at the box office.
The parents in this movie made me think of the parents in the movie "Better Off Dead" from 1985. In BOD they were supposed to be funny, quirky, and concerned about their kid which in turn led to their antics. It was done much better in "BOD" though.
