Watching videos on shenmue's combat makes me wish so, so badly that they'd make another shenmue game with this combat

The combat system in Shenmue 1 & 2 are great and really satisfying when you spend the time to learn them but there are not enough fights in the game imo it is a game with an martial arts theme to it so do i wanna fight more.
the first time i played shenmue i felt like i understood and learned to fighting system right up to the end of shenmue 2 especially at the roof top fight where ryo remembered what xiuying said "concentrate on yourself, and stay calm" this was the point where i learned not to rush the combos to strike first but to wait so i could use different attacks which was mindblowing to me that i had realized only at that point in the game.
This fighting system definitely needs to come back.

i hoope xuiying returns for 4. one of my favourite characters. i loved her cold, firm patronising voice. used to make me laugh so much.
      "Are you even trying?"

Great video and shows the virtua based RPG combat system which for me voids shenmue 3 for not building upon years later or inspiring a sister system.

That's my negative issue with shenmue 3, the fighting combat system it's like not a patch on shenmue 1 and 2, I'm hoping shenmue4 they kinda go back to this but build on it.

Just wondering what does untrained mean? That you start with the move from the start? Because I'm missing some of these moves.😕

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. I specify "untrained" and "trained" because, as you might already know, some moves change once their experience level reaches 50%, and some combos only work with the untrained or trained version of the move, depending on which combo you're trying to use.
For "untrained", I'm referring to the base form you start off with at the beginning of the game or when you've just learned it by reading a scroll, while for "trained", it's when the move has at least 50% XP and has therefore changed in a different form.
Some combos may work with both versions of the move, while others may work partially or may not work at all, so that's why I made sure to mention which form I was using for the combo I was showing.
Unfortunately, there's no way to revert to the base/untrained version of a move if you've trained it past 50%, other than restarting the game and carefully planning which move you want to train and which you want to keep in its base form.
However, if you're playing on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), there's a handy save editor tool built by Shenmue fan BtEtta that allows you to modify many parameters, including move XP. It does not work on any other version (PS4, Xbox, Dreamcast).
I cannot provide a link, otherwise TH-cam will flag my comment as spam and remove it. Just search for "Shenmue PC Save Editor" on your preferred browser and it should pop up in the first results (it's a Shenmue Dojo thread over their forums).
Alternatively, if you're playing on a Dreamcast emulator, I could send you one of my VMU saves, with a "combo-friendly" moveset. Hope it helps. 🙏
