      @@LastLineOfDefense Jokes aside, these are super neat. However, I'll hold out for the eventual Howl Mini (Howl Pup?) -- something cheaper and less taxing on cargo space.

      @@PNWCamper1955 And the fuel consumption alone is wild compared to other capable propane fire pits. just 6 hours off a 20lb tank? Yikes. It's an awesome product for sure. BUT insanely expensive startup and operating costs. It's honestly the only reason I prefer Ignik vs LavaBox... Yeah, the LavaBox can output more BTU's but the fuel consumption is where you need to outweigh the actual benefit of those added btu's...

    This looks like a great product and I want one but I think they need to find a way to bring the cost down and make it smaller or at very least have folding legs and square it off. It looks like a pain to pack. They’re on to something though.

    • @484465
      @484465 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Agreed- They should modify the legs to a spindle style you can screw in for setup & stow internally for travel. I’d bet they find a way to reduce the cost in the next gen, when Mike said it was **expensive** I thought he was going to drop an $899 price tag but $1,300 🤯

    The new Ignik Firecan Elite is 50k BTU, vs the Howl at 62k but one is $250, lasts much longer and is much more packable vs $1,300.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, BTU isn't a very accurate measurement of felt warmth. Firecans are cool (I have Lavabox), but they put out heat straight up to be blown away. If there's no wind at all, and you kind of stand above them, and manage to not burn your clothes with the flame moving around - they do put out some heat. Certainly the price is right, and they provide good ambiance - but for actual warmth, nothing touches the Howl currently. Is it worth the price? Eh, to some people, but not all.

    • @SD8_
      @SD8_ 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LastLineOfDefense Good take. You are right in that BTU aren't the only measurement of heat, but they're probably the most measurable. I like the Howl, a lot, but with a Firecan with lava rocks there's also emanating heat. I believe the Howl is definitely warmer, just don't know that the higher output is worth 5x+.
      I only mention all this because overlanding has moved towards a totally inaccessible price point, where costs aren't correlated to expenses, but to the market. I'm certain these guys invested a ton of time and resources to bring this to life, but so did every startup, many of which do value accessibility.

    To say that other propane fire pits don’t put out heat, is what you call a “marketing pitch.” What most of those other fire pits actually do, is provide a somewhat natural fire experience, in a more practical and compact form factor…..while giving off warmth in the process. As cool as it is, it’s not very practical for most applications and it’s definitely overpriced in my opinion
