- After doing a bunch of big power modifications on my 2003 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG it was time to hit the dyno for a remote tune from Tony at Race iQ. After gaining some nice power with the new mods, I was surprised to see that one mod caused me to actually lose horsepower. My w211 doesn't have an M113K

2005 E55. Mid length headers, 550cc injectors, 77mm clutched pulley, ice tank with larger heat exchanger and upgraded pump, eurocharged tune. Made 505 whp, 530 ft lbs.

Good to see the E55 again! I'm glad you don't get too caught up in dyno numbers like most, consistency is the key... as we all know from back in the day, the street is the great equalizer! The most important mod is the driver mod, that's how 500 HP cars can end up walking 800 HP cars.
Those pulls in 3rd gear are huge and the look of your car makes me wanna buy an e55.

Boost varies a lot depending on IAT's since there's no boost regulation in those superchargers. I've even seen up to 13psi on the stock pulley on very high intake temps. Realistically the stock pulley makes around 8 or 9 psi, and the 77mm pulley makes 10 to 12psi. Spikes slightly higher during gear shifts.
I personally think the engine becomes pretty knock limited after 15psi, but with your setup with the water/meth and headers you should be fine with a few psi above that. Really like the build so far. Looking forward to see how much more you get out of it!

Finally another E55 video! There is a video on here of an 05 I believe, doing a 4th gear pull (don't remember the mods) that hit damn near 200mph.

Really great video, I'm using this as a blueprint on what to do to a E55 when I find one. Your car seriously looks great I was considering a 2010 but for the price and how good your AMG looks and the amount of aftermarket accessories and how easy it is to tune I'm all in on the 03 E55. Hey Alex. Thank you so much for doing the no-wmi vs wmi dyno runs. Plenty of data on its effects on post-blower IATs on these cars, but I think you're probably the first to test and document this on a dyno (or drag strip). Can't wait to see what kind of times you run at the strip.
Ky Y I have done that testing years ago and have let people know many times that the tuners on this particular motor don’t like to tune for meth so what happens is what happened to Alex it goes rich and u actually lose power seen and data logged at the track and my logging is done with zt2 and dashdaq so I know it’s to the T
So I experimented with meth % etc , Alex will try with 100% water but he will extinguish the spark problem is the that we are told to use nozzles that are too big and that’s the real problem
So I went with a smaller nozzle for MY setup and my boost and now I could say I’m pretty close to what I want
When it comes to meth injection on these cars it’s not only watching iats but also afr and timing

That’s some good numbers I have vrp primary HE and secondary, 76mm pulley and tune, bwk, I made 460 wheel and 560 torque soon to get longtubes to reach that 500hp mark!!

Good point regarding battery charger when flashing/programming CU's. Once you scn code an EGS unit and it fails due to voltage you'll never do it again trust me :D Subscribed, thumbs up for your other videos.
The stock pulley car made 492hp 518 torque, 83deg weather 4th gear 160mph with 306 gear. 498hp for race gas. 122mph traps. at track.

Hello alex big fan from the uk. Like you I have invested a lot into a e55 w211 I am going for a full restore but I am almost giving up pal because of a ride issue but I will come back to this. this is what I have done or should I say my wallet has done.

The issue is any small drop over a grid on the left hand side front (near side)there is a bang and my dash sounds like its coming out but the rear feels bad on the left also. its like the rear left has more travel down pot holes and the right is solid. on the right hand side driver side it always feels solid. really don't no what to do I have almost rebuild this car underneath at the cost of 15k. is their anyone in the uk that could maybe shed some light. what is your thought alex please help or going to end up selling it because its p$%%$%^ me off dude!!!!!!!! but I love it to much its like having a beautiful girlfriend that you know is bad for you.

Im seriously considering this, but would like a pro opinion. Too much? Too lil and should be worried? he works at a dealer(not MB) and swears this car is legit and would sell it to a friend(good sign cuz I literally know where he lives and works). This has been my dream car since 03 and he knows it, so I don't wanna seem too eager but tween u n me I'm salivating. Hi Alex, i watched a interesting video on the failure of the oring on the oil pickup of the m113 engine.
Have you ever seen this before? The video was " why my engine blew, what every E55 owner should know" check it out. I know these engines don't have oil pressure sensors, or gauges. A good upgrade would be how to add one in.

For your water tank for your heat exchanger I suggest you should get hold of some dry ice as that will bring the temperature right down further than you have now. It’s easy to get hold off too. If your about getting temperature down I suggest this. I don’t like water meth. To me that’s asking for corrosion. I’d rather die the same hassle of plumbing like you have done a dirty shot of n2o.

Love the car, that's amazing power with such little modification. I don't own an E55 but do have a similar competitor. My '08 Cadillac STS V had similar stock numbers to the E55 stock I believe. Mods done to mine (all by previous owner) are; stage 1 & 2 intake, stage 2 tune from D3 Cadillac, custom headers, Borla cat-back, and +3 psi pulley). I haven't put it on a dyno (and probably won't lol) but previous owner claimed it put down 554 whp & 559 wtq. Compared to a bone stock V, driving it definitely feels like those numbers are "Legit" :D.

You really need to get rid of the stock exhaust. Less restrictions can only mean more power.
There's probably very little to be gained by changing the exhaust on this car. Maybe increasing the crossover pipe diameter would help, but there's probably no real restriction in those AMG mufflers. Muffling/sound dampening ≠ restriction.
I love the m113k engine... How hard would it be to put the m113k in a w140...??

I saw another video where the guy in Canada who does Time Attack in his E55 blew his engine because there is no oil pressure sensor. Are you thinking of adding some A-pillar gauges for PSI, oil pressure, etc as you continue to tune the car?

Alex, what's your take on daily driving an E55 with mods? Pulley, tune, belt kit, long tube headers, cooling, colder plugs on mine and I wonder if it's affecting the longevity of my motor. Edit: not sure my dyno results are accurate, says I'm only at 418whp and 472ft lbs
su1ac0 if you drive it normally it should not affect that much just do not plant your right foot all the time

Hi Alex, any thoughts on whether the Supercharger Oil should be changed on E55s? There are Vids about it on TH-cam, but I get quizzical looks when I ask at the Dealership or Merc Specialists? Mine is a 2005 with 140k Kilometres on it.
Yes I'd change it. It's cheap and easy and since moisture can get in there, I don't consider it to be lifetime.

Definitely not as reliable as the E55, can't say for the Bi-Turbo as they're still fairly new. M156's have issues with Cams, cam followers, cam phasers, head bolts, intake manifolds. They do sound great though!

Hey Alex! What do you know about the 2009 to 2012 SL63 reliability and and maintenance wise? I have seen a lot of horror stories on forums with the suspension, with electronic components and transmission. I really would like the SL63 though. Is it a big gamble?

Any older once expensive Euro car is a gamble but luckily there are plenty of good shops that offer pre-purchase inspections. Send me an email and I can give you a basic rundown of what to look out for.

V8M3 Probably nothing you could measure with any kind of accuracy. Mine was removed by the previous owner. Some say you can hear the blower whine more without it
I know this is off the subject, but would you test Lubrication Engineers oil, transmission fluid and gear lubricants? Best in the universe, will blow anything else out of the water and save your stuff

Being an old school simple logic hot rod guy. How much HP can you pull out of the stock engine without going too lean on the fuel the stock injectors can put out? My friend had a famous tuner company do his E63. It was being forced to run big power using the stock Benz injectors. The tuner acted surprised when it blew up blaming the stock benz injectors as defective which of course Benz wouldn't take any responsibility for because of all the mods. Just seemed to me no one balanced the upgrades with more fuel. The engine went too lean. The injectors couldn't put out enough. What about the E55 engine? Do you have any mods planned to increase fuel mixture into the engine?

Would be cool with if you mention why the car would back off on timing as inlet manifold temp rises... The car leaning out on AFR is also related to increased risk for the engine.
