This is like a chapter out the bible. That's how important this information is. You're doing God's work giving out this level of the game. Thank you so much.
My plan is to avoid record labels. Realistically its gonna take time and daily sacrifices to slowly get the ball running. I've heard many stories of what these record labels are doing. I understand its a business and nothing is free but damn. I follow this channel amongst a few others to make sure I'm ready to accept what I'm getting myself into. If I didn't have such a passion for music I would've chose another path.
Thank you so much bro! This was extremely needed and helpful. God bless! Also, you should do a video on the best way independent artist can run their own label and pay out the royalties they owe people.
Aye you finally put a picture up there! Remember its always up for negotiation. This does not have to be your deal, it's just a standard deal, there are better options out there.
8:10 $0.95 per album sold So if an artist sells 1 million records (goes Platinum), they'd still make $950,000 ? (excluding paying back the loan) Seems pretty good to me to pocket over $900,000 for 1 Platinum album, although I know %-wise it's not a great deal.
Everyone always saying these rappers r broke, but yet even the less popular ones r still drivin lambos, living in mansions, living the life. Even if the stuff's rented, it still costs millions to live like that. I wish I was that broke.
Not sure if this is a dumb line of questioning or not but: If you have a deal like this -- and say your record pops just enough to give you minimal clout enough to get a small podcast going or a local product endorsement or some such -- something outside the music industry: Can you pay back the $30,000 from an outside source? Or is it strictly repayable only by the music being sold? If paid back through an outside source -- do you then get control of your masters -- or is that a totally separate conversation? Conversely -- does the label get any piece of the pie from your outside source? Or is that determined by how your publishing deal is structured? Anyway -- awesome channel man -- great info -- keep up the good work!
It would be the discretion of the label as I'm assuming they'll lean on the terms of the initial contract. Hopefully it's not an archaic 360 deal. Outside of the 360 deal, it should warrant a conversation towards restructuring the terms. I'm curious what Casey thinks ..
Great video man!! So basically the only way to recoup is if you sell a ridiculous amount of albums or your brand launches off other revenue streams for you? (i.e merch) Or are there examples of artists that get good deals? I know for instance daft punk had a clause written in where their masters get returned after a certain number of years (their first album discovery if I'm not mistaken)
This dude got 100 thousand plus subscribers but there are millions of people who want to create and preform music for money....MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!!😂 Thanks brother you work is much appreciated
I got a Question ⁉️ does a record labels request money from a new artist to sign a contract ... for an example they ask a new artist for $350 to $400 to get the contract drawn up so they can arrange the signature ...
Question can you do a video about what Frank Ocean did to "escape" his record label unscathed. What if an artist (or buddies)can do a lot of those things. Are they basically paying the money for the work other people can do on a larger scale? Or does the record company just want their own people only on their project??
Hi Casey, can you do me a favour and clarify what is meant by "Records"? I have noticed it could be used as either a reference towards a single song on an album or as a reference to the total album. Which is it? I just want to understand that clarification once and for all.
For someone who occasionally trades stocks this makes perfect sense if im the record label. Im only taking a trade if I can make 10 times what I'm risking. So if a company is risking 30k, you damn right they need 300k back. If that doesnt work for you, put up your own 30k
The information is not misleading you are just misunderstanding. Record label is walking away with 80% I clearly said that. The executive producer could be negotiated into their contract at the beginning or requested after the album is finished. The executive producer could be ANYBODY designated and agreed upon by the artist. So, there isn't any confusion. You've just got to learn more about the record industry before you jump to conclusions.

I'd like to think of it that way as well. Thank you.

Do artists gain more money for themselves if the do tours?
Absolutely!
Thank you for the information from a person who pays studio time in the form of a water bill 😉

Can this be the reason why Indie Artist is broke 😢
🎶💯
Thanks
@@MusicMoneyMakeover You’re welcome.
Even though he broke it down I don’t understand lol
No chance will i ever sign over 80% of my masters royalties
Lot of what he is saying is just pure lies..
misleading information ....who get the 80% and also who is executive producer ? There is Confusion in the different roles
