    Hi Jon, thx a lot for the informative video. I would really appreciate your feedback on Label cuts please, since the label uploads the music and receives the streaming and sync stats and revenues is there any way for the artists to monitor that. How do we know what the Label is exactly receiving from our music. Thx again for your help and have a wonderful day.

    Very useful information. Thanks for the video. 50/50 on a label doesn't even sound that bad :). But I assume the stores like Beatport also take a significant share of the selling price?

    Key Advice: These big or small labels out there only come after you if the record actually makes money. So many house producers now a days take what they need sample it and just get it signed to small independent records. The record turns into a club hit. Producers literally making $10 a quarter on Beatport sales, come at it Warner Bros Records!

    So as a DJ playing normal events, I’m allowed to play anyone’s songs anyway I choose? Thanks.

      Yes..but your mixes might be taken down

      This depends on the country. In Germany the clubs pay a der based on size and people visiting to the royalty collecting company. So djs just need to buy the songs. I think in theory in some countries the do has to register the songs and pay a fee but not sure how that works in practice probably no one cares.

      @@Jonsine In The USA, the venues and radio stations pay licensing fees to Performance RIghts Organizations.

    I'm still really mystified how and where the money comes to support all this. The break down I made was :
    Music sales: Which is tough for earnings
    Studio Rental for recording : Probably somewhat substantial
    TH-cam videos: Probably small percentage earnings
    Then your costs : Employees, massive electricity for studio, lease, then all your personal expenses. Not to mention all the gear and modifications.
    Anyways, my mind is melting and the math doesn't seem right in my head.......

    • @Jonsine
      @Jonsine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You forgot the dj courses, copyright and my label. Also my electric bill is just 30€ per month. All of this works barely. I’m cutting all privat expenses. All for the love of music

    How do remix contracts work for an EP? Say you are releasing your own song on your own record label and you ask another artist to make a remix to release on the same EP. Does the remix artist get any royalties? Just a flat payment for the remix? Do they have a copyright on the remix?

    What do you do if you want to use a vocal from a previous session (many years back) but you can't find the vocalist to discuss %

    • @Jonsine
      @Jonsine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s why I always get the permission to use it before or right after the Session. Unfortunately if you don’t have any prove she allowed you to use it u can’t. Legally speaking

    I really don't understand the value of a big label deal if they are not providing promotion. In the "old days", labels assumed most of the risk by fronting the recording costs, paying for manufacturing and packaging, and providing A&R guidance and promotion. The artist usually collected 15-25% of the royalties. A fair rate for a digital only deal would be 40-50%. A deal that is only 20% with no promotion is ridiculous! Also, it sounds like ghost production is pretty lucrative.

    Hi Jon, a quick question: is it possible to call a song with the name of a big artist? For example ("Artist Name" - Martin Garrix)
    It's sounds like a stupid question but I'm curious xD
