HUGE fan of this generation of Nissan truck's (Frontier, Xterra, Pathfinder, and Armada) and their VQ & VK series engines. I could do without the graphics on the Frontier. Have had excellent experience with my 2012 Pathfinder. If you perform the routine maintenance, these will do anything a Toyota will do, without the, "Toyota tax".
I have a 2014 Fronty 2WD that I take offroad, and it's so much fun! The size works for me and bigger folks who come along too. Used was great condition and even better price. I've been modifying and still haven't reached the cost of a new vehicle yet! Super reliable truck. 👏🏾 I love when I see them out on the road and the trails ⛺️ Great review!!
automotive journalists for years have been pushing the line that the frontier is an old design, that it is long in the tooth...but if you look up the sales figures by year, 2005 was about 70k and 2019 was about 70k. There was a big dip in sales in 08-'10 but that was partly due to economic problems of that time. They will admit that it stayed at a good price, but that was because Nissan stuck with what was working. I think more automakers should learn from the frontier's success. Re-engineering all new models every 6-8 years is not needed for success (unless your current gen sucks) and keeping a successful model around keeps R&D low and thus sticker price low. The new frontier model sold 15k units short of the previous gen's last model year. Making a model "better" doesn't always mean more sales because it often means increased sticker price.
Great video. Interesting everyone thinks these look so dated but Jeep has had the same body since like the 1940's and everyone loves it... and that boxy Mercedes 4x4 too... Nissan gets a bad rep for some reason. If you compare this to a Tacoma same year, the Nissan pulls more weight, off roads better, has better gas mileage, has same reliability rating, and is cheaper. I think the Tacoma is a beautiful truck and great too but not sure what you are getting for your money in comparison...
Greetings from Puerto Rico! Very good video of the Nissan! I am planning to buy a 2020! Although the new one will arrive but I know that the cost will rise a lot.
Just replaced the 2 upstream catalytic converters on my 2013 Nissan Frontier SV V6 4x4 and cost me over $3500.00 a shocker but the truck has been good to me for the past 10 years so not that mad at her !!!
Same graphics package on a black 2020 Pro4x with the new 3.8L v6 and 9 speed tranny. A mix of old world with new. Instant classic. I don't haul much as I used to so the 5' bed is sufficient, and actually more attractive. The newer Pro4x's are awesome but I'm sticking with my 2020.
I think the steering wheel looks better than the new ones. I thought about it...whether you buy a 2005 or a 2019 you are getting the same vehicle. I had an 05 XTerra and your Frontier is exactly the same inside. Obviously the difference is SUV vs pickup truck but they are the same vehicle otherwise.
When you play higher quality streams with blue tooth from a good service like Tidal the Rockford sounds very good. AM/FM sounds pretty muddy. The AM is especially garbage sounding. The SAT also sounds like crap. SAT usually not great anyway because of the very high compression they use. But the implementation on this head unit is terrible. Also you can play CD's and MP3's through the USB. Using the USB it sounds very good as well. But your limited to 320 kbps MP3's. Does not play high resolution Flac files. If I play sirus XM with phone app via blue tooth it sounds pretty good being the stream is 256 kbps on the app. Like I said before, the regular SAT sounds just horrible. So in summary, the RF sounds both good and bad. The higher the quality stream you throw at it the better it sounds. Pretty poor radio and SAT integration. FM is listenable but not great but SAT and AM is not.
Did he say "gen 16 Nissan?" If yes, he is incorrect it is a model year '16, but a GEN 2 revision level for the Frontier. If not, it was very unclear. Otherwise decent video, nice to learn about the older ones since I just purchased a '23 and so far, good solid, fun to drive truck. And love the old-fashioned hydraulic steering. Been a hater of the electronic assist crap.
I don't know if the Bilstein struts came stock on that truck, but they're great, and the BFG A/T T/A are an upgraded tire and quieter than the BFG A/T KO's (less aggressive tread).
Great truck bro! Love my frontier! Most underrated pickup ever

Just bought a 2016 sv 4wd last week. Love it so far
Great Video! I too have a Frontier , pre model change. A good basic truck for my needs. Feel like changes just made 2022 Frontier more unaffordable.
The new one is an amazing truck, still cheap, but expensive in todays economy. But unproven. These ones are proven.
Bought a 2005 NISMO, ( now pro4x) 6 spd, drove it hard for 250K Kilometers, traded it in for a 2015 SV, love these trucks.

They came from the factory with Hankook DynaPro tires.
Good to know!
Depends on the year. Earlier ones came with BFGoodrich rugged trail
great video i love frontiers
Big thumbs up, good video! My best days are being a Dad, makes life fun and enjoyable.

Great review, thanks.
We have the 6 speed version, love it! Also, love how you said "Classic key igniton", guess it's all buttons now xd.
Surprisingly on my 2018 Subaru I still got a key! Must be a Japanese market thing these days.
6 speed auto or manual?
@@thebrokebasshead9984 Manual of course. Not sure how to identify amount of gears in auto
im running the same tire setup on my 19 pro4x white wall out baby!!

I am so excited for the new version to come out! Congrats on your decision to buy a Frontier!
@@xAngeviLx I'm excited too with the new version! Man but here in Puerto Rico truck are getting too expensive.
that's a healthy sounding vq40. 👍

Do yoy live in a state with inspections because i would have just drilled them out😂
@ Our state has emissions testing every 2 years.
@@scotsmanofnewengland7713 im sorry you have to deal with that its gotta be annoying
Bought a 07 sv 4x4 crew cab long bed brand new, still driving it, oe brakes with only 95 k miles, this truck will last me for ever.😀
I thought the RF. Radio was great!!
I installed the Satellite radio 📡 and just kicked Ass!!!!
Can't forget the compliance masks.
Just bought a 2012 Pro4x! 57k miles.

The 22 and newer steering wheel looks a lot better. my opinion so it means nothing.
all that computer crap is not there
How’s the rockford fostage sound system sound?
I'm on my second Frontier Pro-4X (2016 and 2020). The Rockford Fosgate system sounds great to me. It could use an EQ, but I am very happy with it.
I thought it sounded great! I would pump some old nu metal through it like Linkin Park and you could tell that it was made for that early 2000’s stuff

My passenger door creaks the same lmao

6 speed trans
Its a good truck. very reliable, but crappy mpg.

Wrong Tires for the truck and the shocks and struts not the same . All else are the same.

These trucks suck
