      Thank you for the honest feedback. I like hearing from you guys/gals. This helps me decide how to edit my upcoming videos. I have found that little or no music is the way to go to keep everyone happy. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for a very informative video. I'm glad you take the time to remove the stumps instead of chipping at them like I see most people do. I understand that if you're paying someone else to "clear" the stump you do what they are telling you what they're going to do. But in reality, just chipping the stump to ground level causes more problems down the road. Stump removers won't tell you about the bugs that will nest in the below ground stump that's left. Eventually that will rot and leave a depression in your yard. Even then, people will only fill it in. A few years later after more rot, another depression. Do it right the first time people. Remove the whole stump. Plus, the amount of wood that's lost not using the stump for firewood or blank wood. The bugs are laughing at you and thanking you for the free housing unit. .... Enough said. Thanks for being a responsible yard owner !!!!

    Well at first I was going to ask "how do you find the stumps" (that are not obviously sticking up) but it looks like just about anywhere you dig you find one.

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes some you end up finding by surprise. Once you spot some roots you know theres a stump near by. I still have more stump pulling to do around the property, so stay tuned ill be posting more once the snow melts and the ground is firm.

    Excellent operation John! Nice machine and setup. To bad that it probably couldn't be rented with that setup?

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks and yes it would be an excellent rental setup. The frost ripper is well worth the money. Its so versatile, especially with the hydraulic thumb. I have it on the machine most of the time. Its really good at picking up boulders, grabbing roots with precision, picking up and sorting tree trunks that have been cut to a long length.

    Am considering a ripper for my KX 121 but my stumps are larger and oak. Also have some clay at bottom of stumps. Looks like your soil conditions are sandy loam? Have you used this on similar conditions?

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have no experience pulling stumps from clay soil. The stuff i encounter here is like you said sandy loam varying to hard packed with ledge. The ripper and thumb are just so proficient at pulling roots and stumps. More local tooth/blade force and less side loading applied to the coupler to arm pin bearings (compared to a 24" digging bucket). Those 2 are my most used attachment here on the homestead. That grapple ability really is handy. Check out my other video where i pull out a massive 36"+ (diameter of where it was cut) pine stump. The KX121 got it out but it took some effort. Placing the blade in the rear does help alot on stronger tougher stumps. I think that stump alone took me 4 hours because of its shear size, deep taproots and ledge attached to it.
      I have several massive oak stumps i will have to pull up soon. So stay tuned for those videos. They are pretty big, ranging 24-36" I have been saving them for last in hopes they loosen up a bit. I pulled some smaller white and red oaks and the roots are as tough as they come. Its like pulling on very well anchored steel cables. You really got to work from the outside in. Otherwise the KX121 is so powerful it will just pick itself up in the air. Thanks for watching!

    I have a Kubota 47 hp with a backhoe implement. I am after taking out some really big stumps. You can take a look on my channel and see.

      Very nice Kubota tractor! I would like to get one in the future with a front mounted snowblower for my long driveway. Only after the detached garage gets built though. I like that firewood box. I want to make a pallet system for my firewood. The big stumps really put the machine to the test. Stay tuned i have more stumps to pull once the mud drys out here. I have subbed back, Thanks for watching!

    • @LostCaper
      @LostCaper 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do some snowblowing and it is hard on the neck . The good thing about having on the back thou is you still have your bucket on to deal with the big ice chunks and big rocks on the gravel road that the plow pushes into the driveways. Other than that it sure would be a luxury to have the blower on the front.

      Its videos like this from the not professional owner that are more informative than the pro video. I'm a zero timer at using an excavator and seeing the "amateur moves" is incredibly educational. He knows what needs to be done, just needs the experience that will come in time. My hats off to anyone showing their beginner status or in this case not professional status. I've learned more in 10 minutes of this video on how best to "rip" a stump out using one of these machines. I've taken out about 20 stumps by hand. Renting one of these for the first time to remove a stump will be a pleasure. I'm finally at a financial status where I can afford to rent one. I could buy one, but I don't have the space to store it and the amount of jobs I'm doing wouldn't justify the expense. Thanks for posting this video !!!!
