Thanks for the helpful video. Loctite worked great on my 6-year-old RockShox Pike. But I used Loctite 648 instead of 638 since it has a much lower viscosity to help it wick into the gaps. It's also a high strength retaining compound like the 638. It's been 2 months now and still no creaking. 😁👍

The chance of success should be greater with loctite 290 as it is much much thinner and will more easily find its way down there. 638 isn't really considered wicking grade, even if it probably works this way to some extent.
I've applied the 290 - it works fine - I'd say 95% of the creaking is gone. However, it is made for threaded metal parts, whereas the 638 is a press- fit application.

This is absolutely horrible. We pay 1000+ for these forks and I’m yet to find one which does not creak after few months of usage 🤬 I tend to keep my bike free of any noise but no matter I do I can’t get rid of CSU creaking. Frustrating. Brake - Click - brake - click… 😢
I've not tested them but from the specs they might work, if you try them please consider posting another comment, I'd be interested to hear how they work.
Finn I’ll give you a bit of an update because I’m sure your super frustrated searching the internet for a solution to the creak, just like I was. I gave my forks to my local bike shop, they sent it in to fox and I got given a full csu replacement for no cost. I was creak free for a few months and then all of a sudden my archenemy (the dreaded creak) came back after a muddy enduro race day. I was super pissed as the first time I got the csu replaced I had to spend 2 weeks away from my beloved bike 😢 I honestly couldn’t be bothered to take the forks back again so I pulled my headset out, pulled my crown race thingo off and put some fresh grease on everything and just let it be. I haven’t heard a creak since and it’s been a good 5 months. So my advice is to just let it be, it might be annoying for the mean time but I suppose after a while things wear in. However, if you have any scratches on your stanchions now you know you can get some fresh new fork uppers for no cost, just say you have a creaky csu 😏 I hope this helps you out a bit 🤞🏻
Question. If the creak is coming from the crown/steerer interface, would it still make a noise during that test? I tried it and got a few creaks initially but it stopped after that. Also did you have to remove your crown race to clean and apply the loctite to steerer tube? Sorry for all the questions.
@@jedmtb I see. One more question. What was the reason behind using 638 and not 648? I just ordered some 648 because I couldn't get 638, and 648 is apparently less viscous and able to get into smaller gaps. Haven't got it yet but I would think it would work better for this application
@@shrimpfriedrice494 I was recommended 638 by a Fox service center, the 648 does look like it should work better tho, please let me know how you get on with it.
@@perttukoo The creaking turned out to be coming from the headset cups. I would still recommend the 648 as it's properties seem more suited to this application. Less viscous so it would have a better chance of getting into any gaps.
So my question which I cant seem to find a solid answer to, is that is this just something thats annoying, or is it a legitimate mechanical concern? Because if its just an annoyance I don't feel like wasting my time an effort with a warranty process, my car makes tons of weird and annoying noises but its totally normal and just a part of it aging. But if its a serious mechanical concern then I would for sure be talking to fox while these things are still under warranty.
Its just annoying. If your fork is still in warranty you can send your Fork to Fox for free but the people who come here probably dont got any warrenty on their fork left..
Very interesting! But my Fox 36 170mm have more of a clicking sound like that th-cam.com/video/7dBo7NSag24/w-d-xo.html And yet when i talked to a Fox-trained mechanic his first guess was that its the "crown" fault that need to be replaced. i think he ment the entire CSU, that is the same problem adressed here.
@@danielzahradnik2571 yes, it turned out i didnt tighten some things enough. It looks like fox mechanic overtigten it then a little bit and all the sounds disappeared
Telling people to twist there forks around like that is not a smart idea. There’s always that one guy that goes overboard and brakes the bridge in the lower.
As if the forks don't already take that kind of force x100 while riding. If a fork breaks from twisting it with your hands then it's probably a good thing you won't be riding on it anymore.
@@djmystery7235 He's not really twisting it in the video. He's moving one side back and one side forward, similar to how the fork will flex when encountering square edged hits on a trail.

Heating up the crown with a hairdryer or heat gun will also help open up any gaps. It’ll help the Loctite to wick in, as it’ll thin out more.

I tried this and it didn’t do anything - apparently the CSU can also cause the creaks and needs to be disassembled and cleaned. Clear my calendar!
Yes the CSU is the issue, you can get it replaced if the fork is still under warranty or www.rsfsus.co.uk offer an excellent service.
Rode my new Polygon T8 with Fox 32s
less than a week an creaking started
Is it ok to leave your bike up side down for a night?
Yes it actually helps lubricate the foam rings under the seals.
Honest question: is this actually a problem (apart from the creaking noise)?
In most cases no, it's just annoying.
@@jedmtb Good to know! I think I'll leave it as is.
This is absolutely horrible. We pay 1000+ for these forks and I’m yet to
find one which does not creak after few months of usage 🤬 I tend to keep my bike free of any noise but no matter I do I can’t get rid of CSU creaking. Frustrating. Brake - Click - brake - click… 😢
What about loctite 641 or 680?
I've not tested them but from the specs they might work, if you try them please consider posting another comment, I'd be interested to hear how they work.
Did they work out? I can't find 638 anywhere!
Is it safe to ride the bike even if it creaks?
Yes, I think of it like a creaky door, it works fine it’s just annoying.
@@jedmtb thx, I'm already trying your method but on the steerer tube because I think the creak is coming from there
I have had my 2020 fox 36 grip 2 factory for 7 days and I am starting to notice a creak 😡
That sucks! Not had it happen that quickly before hopefully you can get them sorted.
Also got my 36 brand new and after 2 DAYS it started creaking
Thanks for tips, will the loctite flow to the headset when left upside down overnight?
Tried this and it did reduce creaking but did not stop it
Yes unfortunately it's not 100% hopefully the manufacturers will address it as the bigger forks ZEB/38 will make the issue worse.
Question. If the creak is coming from the crown/steerer interface, would it still make a noise during that test? I tried it and got a few creaks initially but it stopped after that. Also did you have to remove your crown race to clean and apply the loctite to steerer tube? Sorry for all the questions.
It depends on the fork, some have more movement than others, you can remove the crown race but with the forks I've done I haven't had to.
@rowan. Did you try the 648 and did it do the trick...? Curious because I need to buy either 638 or 648.
@@perttukoo The creaking turned out to be coming from the headset cups. I would still recommend the 648 as it's properties seem more suited to this application. Less viscous so it would have a better chance of getting into any gaps.
what would be better loctite 290 or loctite 638
I've only tested 638 at the moment but I have some 290 on order to test it.
@@jedmtb 1 month passed, does the 290 worked ??
@@florianpaste6594 I've tested the 290 and it seems to work, I can't say yet if it's any better yet tho
@@jedmtb what about loctite 680 its a lower viscous loctite i believe
@@VikMTB It might work, if you try it please consider letting me know if it works :)
Sadly didn't work for me :/
@@trotro80 :(
So my question which I cant seem to find a solid answer to, is that is this just something thats annoying, or is it a legitimate mechanical concern? Because if its just an annoyance I don't feel like wasting my time an effort with a warranty process, my car makes tons of weird and annoying noises but its totally normal and just a part of it aging. But if its a serious mechanical concern then I would for sure be talking to fox while these things are still under warranty.
Its just annoying. If your fork is still in warranty you can send your Fork to Fox for free but the people who come here probably dont got any warrenty on their fork left..
Very interesting! But my Fox 36 170mm have more of a clicking sound like that th-cam.com/video/7dBo7NSag24/w-d-xo.html And yet when i talked to a Fox-trained mechanic his first guess was that its the "crown" fault that need to be replaced. i think he ment the entire CSU, that is the same problem adressed here.
no, this sound you have is in your fork, no crown
@@danielzahradnik2571 yes, it turned out i didnt tighten some things enough. It looks like fox mechanic overtigten it then a little bit and all the sounds disappeared
Telling people to twist there forks around like that is not a smart idea. There’s always that one guy that goes overboard and brakes the bridge in the lower.
As if the forks don't already take that kind of force x100 while riding. If a fork breaks from twisting it with your hands then it's probably a good thing you won't be riding on it anymore.
Rowan when the wheel is on it doesn’t get twisted around as much, if you remove the wheel it’s really easy to break it.
@@djmystery7235 He's not really twisting it in the video. He's moving one side back and one side forward, similar to how the fork will flex when encountering square edged hits on a trail.
