Are you not listening? Get the rider off the bike, clean him up and lube him. While doing this, check whether there is wear and tear already. If the wears too much, its time to replace the rider. 😁🤘
My recent personal experience on my 6 months old carbon mtb: I had creakings when more pressure was exercised on the pedals, mostly on uphills. I supposed it came from the bottom bracket and based on this video I ordered grease (I still didn't receive). I cleaned my bike and while removing the rear axle I heard the creaking sound, so I had the idea to thightened it more. And it solved the creaking. What is surprising is that on my aluminium bike if I tighten hard the rear axle, there is a rubbing sound so I have to tighten it lightly, reason why I also tightened 'lightly' the axles of my carbon mtb. Thanks for your useful vids.
Dude, thank you so much! I thought i was going crazy! I swapped the bb, was just about to strip down the entire linkage and replace the bearings. Just tightened the rear wheel, the sound stopped. Same experience with going from alloy to carbon. You can't imagine how much frustration and money you saved me!
Great tips. Had a customers new bike that had a loud creak under hard braking. Chased it round and round, checking all the usual suspects. Headset. Bars. Stem. Brakes. Wheels. Etc. Ended up being where the steer tube press fit to the upper crown on the fork. Hadn’t seen that before. Manufacturer warranted it.
You should be able to isolate the noise with a few common sense checks. But if not then yes! This is literally everything that could be creaking...do it all until the creaking stops! On the plus side your bike will be in great shape afterwards 💪

I had a really bad creak from both wheels…turned out to be dirt stuck where the spokes rub together. A proper cleaning with special attention to the spokes fixed it.
I finally found my creak! After changing bottom bracket, lubing pedals and suspension pivots with no luck...I disassembled my chainring and cranks. they were dry, gritty and a little loose. that did the trick
Thank you! :) I was servicing my free hub. When I was done there was this weird creak I was not able to pinpoint. It didn't show up on stand, only when I rode my bike. I disassembled everything, put in the axle only but the sound was still there. It was of course loose spoke. I got the idea from this video, I admit I was too focused on the hub this didn't cross my mind.
Easy way to fix disk brake, I accidentally wiped a whole load of grease on my disk rotor and only noticed it after the wheel had spun so it touch brake pads. How I fixed is I washed with water then wiped dry, then I coated the rotor in mineral terps and Road up and down the street holding the brakes down. Then washed everything off. My brakes felt like brand new
I had a rattle for 3 years and finally found it, loose items in patch kit inside my rack bag. Though for sure it was in the drivetrain. I also discovered my rear swingers(chain stays) have a side to side wobble now and need a new frame bushing, or I need a new bike, it's a 1998 Manitou F/S with Bazooka rear shock and 18,000 miles.
My from disc rotor rings when tight cornering at speed. Is this centrifugal forces because the rotor is tight or could it be the brake mount? Thanks for any suggestions.
Thank you Doddy for all the good information I've now got something to work with although it seems like a hell of a lot but maybe I can finally end this creaking before I go nuts.
Thanks, Doddy! I love the Tech channel videos but this one is especially helpful to me now, since I do have a handle bar that's been creaking for quite some time now and I couldn't find out why. Gonna try your tips first thing tomorrow morning :-)
So I had a creak "coming" from the bottom bracket area and what it was was that i slightly banged a nut on the rear axle and the creak was coming from the axle parts rotating against the frame (?) under pull from the paddles...retightened it and it was fine
I had a creak that was very hard to locate and after many hours of pulling apart, lubing, tearing my hair out and swearing I discovered the creak was caused by a hairline crack in a chain ring bolt on my SRAM XX crankset...the bolt torqued up properly so the creak got missed....converted to 1x and the creak disappeared...inspection of the female part of one of the chain ring bolts under magnification revealed the tiniest crack in the alloy chain ring bolt! AAAAAHHHHH!
John Beedham hi, did it occur only when wet? My eagle creaks/noisy once wet/muddy...new cassette, chain, chain ring, hub, bb...only bit left is crank but that Looks ok to naked eye....
Hey mates, i have some creaking problem, rather than ''bad acord guitar string sound'' kinda... Using Shimano 12 speed groupset (XTR&XT mixed) it only happens on low gears and under hard steep hills climbing. 33-39-45-51 tooths area kind of. -i have checked bottom bracket and crank arm area with pedals. Nothing wrong there, cleaned and greased -checked my chain, i have XTR and XT chain (XT brand new) put XT one, chain size also correct -checked casette torque tightened it correct -cleaned micro spline body, put bit of grease and installed casette again (yes casette spacers in correct places, including that small plastic one behind 51t sprocket -checked freehub body and bearing, cleaned and light greased (which is free hub sound almost gone now...) -put new XTR&Dura-ACE polymer gear cable, adjusted gears correct with B Screw and high&low screws all correct. i am thinking the sound coming from my wheel spokes ? sounds like it ? or something wrong with that micro spline body ? Great video Doddy I know what you mean annoying I recently discovered a creak somewhere so I'll try some of your tips , don't know that I'll be stripping my bike down don't really have the right tools anyway HAPPY DAYS .
My spokes always make a pinging noise. 8:39 When I got my first mountain bike a year ago (a hardtail) the it started to make pinging noises coming from the wheels and it took me forever to figure out that it was the spokes causing the noise. Now, about a week ago I got my first full suspension and the spokes are pinging on it as well. I can't take it in to the bike shop that I bought it at for a free tune up because I had to drive a few hours away to pick up my new bike due to the bike shortage. How can I stop the pinging/tighten the spokes myself? Thanks
Cheers Doddy...nice vid...I have a drive train creak/noise but only once bike gets wet/muddy...everyone inc manf of drive trains tech mgr is stumped! New cassette, chain, chainring, derailleur, hanger...no joy. everything greased, carbon pasted and torqued right..many times. Tried different rear wheel and pedals too...no different. Its only when bikes wet, only pedalling high torque (up hill gears 2-6), does it standing or sitting. A total doozy...started at windhill 6months ago and no fix yet...ideas? Its a top end drive train too...so not cheap...desperate!
I had horrible creaking sounds coming from the rear of my bike. I watched this video and realized it may be just my spokes with grit and grime making the sound. I squeezed on my spokes to see if any were loose and sure enough the same creaking sound emitted from some of them. I washed my bike and even without adding lube, silicone, etc. to anywhere on my bike the creaking is gone on my test ride - and, on top of that my gears were shifting smoother and quieter and, again, all before I lubed up the bike afterwards. I guess I'm just going to have to wash my bike more often like a good little boy.
is this possible in 2X set-up chain ring? my bike has a newly installed bottom bracket, headset, hubs were repacked and pedals were checked and seat post. need your expert advise
Desperate for advice here, my bike has a creak coming from the back side of the bike as fsr as I can tell, only when running on lower gears (higher cogs), seated or not seated, going straight or wile I move side to side, no difference, same issue. It's a Commencal Meta Power EBike. Ive tightened all the bolts but still creaks! Any suggestions please!

Hey Doddy, Just got myself a Mega 275 Alu. Notice a slightly knock on headset The headset is tight. I rock the bike back and forward holding front brake and I don’t get the noise but when riding and pressuring the handlebar it makes the noise. I took the headset apart and the only thing I can think is that split washer on that goes after the top washer. It does not go all he way down. I tried force it and it is still not going. Give me some ideais please. Cheers
Can you guys help me pls? When Im in the bike it is creaking. I put pressure or not it is creaking but, most of the vibration I feel it on my feet. But when Im testing my pedals with me not riding my mtb its not creaking. I clean my seat post but it is still there. It creaks even though Im not pedaling (but Im riding) I test my cranksets but there is no play on it. I go to my technicians and they just dont know what it is.
I had an annoying creak from seat posts on both my 29er and Fatbike. Just took lowering the seat post half a cm and it was gone. Go figure. Still have not explained that.
This video came at a perfect time for me. I am experiencing ‘ghost pedalling’ but only on 3 of the spline things. When those 3 spin round they engage and the pedals spin when they should be free wheeling. Any suggestions?
Sound advice from josh, although we'd suggest that it's small 'chunks' of grease or dirt that are causing it to engage...it only needs a very light brush of grease if you're using thicker stuff!
I also have an annoying creak while pedalling under pressure. Almost sure it is the internal cabling from my dropper post. Does the internal part really need an inner and outer cable or can you take only an inner for the internal part?
I just got a new hardtail, and when I heavy brake or go off drops, the front brake pads (Shimano deore brakes) the pads shift back in the caliper and it makes an awful click sound. When I go off of drops they slide forward and hit the front of the caliper. Any fixes? Everyone says it is normal but it is incredibly annoying and disconcerting.
Another great video doddy 🖒👍🖒👍 I just wanted to ask you about my new bike that I picked up today 😁it's a Scott 930 29er I wanted to ask you about upgrading any gear on the bike or should I leave well alone?
Nice, man, I ride Scott Scale 70 2011. You'll have to specify what product line you bought as well. Scott bikes have several different product lines: Aspect, Scale, Spark, Genius. Every type have many versions with it's own number: 980-910, 780-710. 9xx means it's 29inch wheels. 7xx means 27,5 inch wheels. Aspect is Scott's lowest-end line. Scale is one step up. I say ride for one year and see if you feel like you're missing anything. Most likely you won't. Upgrading gear is expensive so only do when something breaks. Only thing you should worry about is the saddle which is probably a stiff uncomfortable one. Get a comfortable one. Don't ride other people's more expensive bikes, cause you'll compare and suddenly feel like you need this thing you didn't even know about before. I now want air shocks and Rapidfire gear shifters. T_T In 2018, Scott Aspect 910 and Scott Scale 970 would fit my criteria.
#AskGMBNTech I am deeply thankful for this segment. It helps us with the nerd stuff indeed. I have a question: Is it ok to convert an AM bike to do enduro by swapping a long travel fork (from 140 to 170), or will it harm the frame?
It won't harm the frame but it will affect the feeling of the bike. So the front end will be higher, as will the BB, so it might not feel as nice to pedal an might feel a bit unbalanced in the rough stuff
Sure, wipe it with a clean, lint free rag after though or it will just attract dust...and be careful not to spray any onto any braking surface whilst spraying.
I chased a creak on my bike for about a year and it ended up being the stupid chainring bolts. Should have checked them first, but after taking them off, cleaning, regreasing, and reassembling, no creaks. Moral of the story, always check chainring bolts for drivetrain creaks!
Great bike , rides smooth th-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing .
If you have a cream in your bike, buy a set of Park Tools for the same cost as your bike to completely reassemble and check for grit..... Why can’t I be made of money.
Best tip is to buy a really loud hub then you don‘t hear the noises
😂
I’ve done that with a Novatec hub
no hub is loud when you pedal...
Levin Gamm absolutely I agree that will solve the problem hehe
Katie Trotter right😂😂😂
#askgmbntech What do we do if the creaking and groaning is coming from the rider?
Are you not listening? Get the rider off the bike, clean him up and lube him. While doing this, check whether there is wear and tear already. If the wears too much, its time to replace the rider. 😁🤘
Lube your headset gear.
and dont forget to screw the rider to the correct torque setting... Wait what??

I have a problem with my bike. When i turn to the left, the fork and the wheel start to vibrate but when i go straight or turn to the right it doesn´t happend, what could be the problem?
antonio stefan gabriel loose bearings
antonio stefan gabriel loose wheel so disc is rubbing
the wheel it´s tight and the dics doesn´t touch the pads
The bearings inside the wheel not the wheel itself
Definitely sounds like a wheel problem, my guess it that when you turn left the actual hub moves and rubs.

I would try taking the freewheel mechanism apart and replacing the lube in it. The oil might be causing the pawls to engage
Sound advice from josh, although we'd suggest that it's small 'chunks' of grease or dirt that are causing it to engage...it only needs a very light brush of grease if you're using thicker stuff!

what if you just shake your wheel and it makes noise but if u turn heavily and doesn't also when you move fast its makes small noises

Internal's for a dropper post should have a full length of outer covering the inner yes

Same, I dont think you can fix it, it is normal

#askGmbntech what happen if the chain has n little bit of rust must you replace the whole chain or not?
my front wheel clatters for some reason, I really dont know why
Front of my bike making weird grinding noise.... Noticeably more when turning right?
7:31 theres a drip of water going down the front fork...
So the front end will be higher, as will the BB, so it might not feel as nice to pedal an might feel a bit unbalanced in the rough stuff
hi brusko admin
true..a creaky squeaky ruins my ride...had to lube the headset...thanks for the vid
Can I use carbon grease on non carbon parts??
GT85 or PTFE spray much better than silicone spray at not attracting dust
After checking I found that the rear frame pivot bearing failed on my mtb.
Is it okay to use silicon spray on the stanchions?
Sure, wipe it with a clean, lint free rag after though or it will just attract dust...and be careful not to spray any onto any braking surface whilst spraying.
Suggestion! Please up the volume a bit ! Very difficult to follow!
#askgmbntech My rear hub keeps making a loud pinging noise separate from the regular clicking noise
#askgmbntech what if it’s ticking when u put load
very helpful
I chased a creak on my bike for about a year and it ended up being the stupid chainring bolts. Should have checked them first, but after taking them off, cleaning, regreasing, and reassembling, no creaks. Moral of the story, always check chainring bolts for drivetrain creaks!
I subbed you very cool thx for tips
I had a horrible vibration/noise when putting down a lot of power (especially on climbs). Turned out to be a broken axle. Literally split in half
How did it stay in place?
when i make quick turn i hear like a metal *cling* it’s pissing me off cuz idk where it is
When i turn my bars i hear like a door creaking noise someone help
Hamzza_K yo I hear that too have you done any trail riding or cat walks?
Same
Top tips!
The watch time on these videos must be insane
Up the creak without a Doddy.
Honestly at this point I think my frame is creaking. I can make creak if I violently shake it side to side. Metallic click.
#askgmbn What bike should I get for under 1600€?
Get an entry level YT, they are the best value bikes around now and some of the best looking too.
Vitus escarpe
Yt doesn't have mountain bikes under 2300e so I would recommend either a entry level full sus from canyon or a really nice hardtail
I'd get a Raleigh Tokul 3, then buy a dropper post and nice pedals. Best bike you can get for that much money!
Raleigh stopped making mountain bikes and the Tokuls are all sold out. I got the last one.
My Charge Spoon saddle creaks terribly.... Took a while to realise that it was the.saddle.
The only noise I want to hear on the bike is the hub
Anything freaks, tear the whole bike down, clean, grease and re assemble. Win!!!!!
Indentify
While jumping on my mtb its sounds like its in shreading mashin ahahaa
#askgmbntech for me the creak is coming from my fork inside headtube
If you have a cream in your bike, buy a set of Park Tools for the same cost as your bike to completely reassemble and check for grit..... Why can’t I be made of money.
It's always with out exception the fork crown and we all know it. Lmfao spit on it keep riding lol
