O-toro is a really expensive cut. So honestly for a NYC high end sushi place it would be normal. But what he got didn't seem like it was the same quality, plus the wasabi and whatnot was really cheap quality.

I would likely say a place like this is just fine. In places like Japan, getting sick from sushi is basically a non issue. Even pregnant people consume it like any other food.
You obviously have never tried good sushi. Granted, toro is significantly more expensive in US than it is currently in Japan even with a still strong but sinking Dollar/Yen exchange. More importantly, UA's street cred just jumped dramatically by zeroing in on the toro in that menu! But, I question that NJ restaurant's ability to produce GOOD rice fitting for toro as well as using proper wasabi. So for that restaurant, it was overpriced. LA has much better toro for $20/2.

I love your page, but I have one huge critique. You get way too descriptive for too long and by the time you actually try the food in itself it’s off or cold. You should eat first and then give you an honest review of how it taste and how is properly served Otherwise, keep up the great work🏆
I used to live up the hill from River Palm. I'd go there for lunch 2-3 times a week. We moved up north across the border in NY. They used to have a location in Mahwah and Fairlawn, but I think the partners decided to go separate ways. The Mahwah location is now called RP Prime. We've been going there a lot lately. You should check it out.
Have been curiously how the rebranded locations were. Never went to River Palm because I’m a straight up ribeye guy which they didn’t offer. I noticed RP offers one and have been wanting to check out the Fair Lawn location.
the one in hoboken closed many years ago after it went down hill. biggies is another hoboken "chain" on 17 or 3? that no longer exists. i ate at the one on 3 17 it was very good.
I have a pet peeve for cold butter served with bread. It makes all the sense in the world to me to soften the butter so it spreads easily and seems like an oversight to not do so. You've opened my eye to this though UA. Maybe it's supposed to be cold and eaten with bread like a slice of cheese like you did??? Love your videos! Keep it up!
Just a recommendation - try all the food right as they come out and then start your review. The fries would probably have tasted better when they first brought it out. Or you could try voiceover review afterwards. Looking forward to more videos!
Ate at the on in Fair Lawn on Route 4 several times. Always amazing. Bonus tip: if you go on a Saturday night, the bar area looks like an audition for extras in the Sopranos

Hey UA! Big up to you for listening to my recommendation to visit my favorite place in the WORLD - that I could eat at every night if I could afford it :) So many great items on the menu always. For Sushi you should have done the Otoro Tartare. That is exquisite. Glad you liked it as much as I do. TBH RPT is the thing I miss most about the East Coast. The kitchen will also take requests like Au Poivre sauce etc to come out with your steak. Used to be the Best Burger Deal for $10 lunch too. I think now they are $15
Agreed! Particularly the numerous rodizios. Although not very highly rated on Yelp, my 2 favorites are Brasilia for rodizio and Seabra Marisqueria for Portuguese seafood.
@@th6252 I grew up near Newark. I left the East Coast in 89 but we used to hit up the Spanish Tavern and The Spain I think it was called. Also some Portuguese (not Brazilian) seafood place in Harrison. Many Brazilian and Colombian places in Elizabeth. Great variety. Seems like a lot more variety now though. I've lived all over the West coast and LA is as diverse but with different countries. More Mexican obviously. More Persian, Armenian, Georgian. LA has a huge Jewish population too. I've never been to Houston but I heard their diversity is amazing too.

Left the area around 2019 moving around a bit but I’m back in Bergen County. Used to go to Newark all the time for mostly rodizio. The most well known Spanish restaurant I’m aware of was/is Don Pepe’s. It was THE place for paella back in the day, but there are a few other places I prefer over it. Used to work with a ton of Portuguese and Brazilians when I worked in Union county and got addicted to pao de quejo and pasteis de nata.

Her family was let's just say involved in Colombian things in the 80s. At like 3 in the morning she'd say" let's go to New York and party." Sometimes we go to Miami sometimes we go to DC but we always end up in a South American restaurant bar club.Lots of fun.

Great review. When cooking at home, the general advice now is to pre-season the steak and let it absorb the salt so it's uniform. I prefer to not do that and rather add some salt in the end like you're doing with the finishing salt here. The contrast with just the meat flavor with the spark of salt and the texture. This steak looks perfect - they care about what they're making.

Hi UA, another great steakhouse in New Jersey is Rod's Steak house. Rod's is located in Morristown, NJ. Rod's has been in business for a long time, close to Drew University.

In the case our steak, it is intensely streaked with fatty veins that are the signatures of a great ribeye! Although misspelled on the menu, this is a real word used in the correct context to accurately describe the menu item. The use of the term "marbleization" was no mis-STEAK!
It's probably good that they put the onion strings on top of the steak because some of the grease strips on the steak and then you just shove the onion strings off to the side when ready to eat
You should check out Steve’s Sizzling Steaks in Carlstadt. They have a super loyal following and it can be a long wait. Just beware of maybe not getting their signature “Sizzling” style as the jus they put on can be overwhelmingly salty.

Always salt that steak with your fingers not the spoon, like you did the second time. It’s your salt. And I’m having Toro tonight and the place I go in New Jersey is amazing and it’s $13 per piece, so same. Also salmon belly at $11 per piece. And I agree with you never ever sauce a good steak. My sushi dinner tonight will be around $175 for two people, Excellent quality sushi is not cheap and it is considerably better. Always get the good stuff if you can.

You are absolutely correct. A great steak doesn't need a sauce, much less catsup! The steak looks great, perfectly cooked. Nice review.
Steak is pretty bland on its own and fattiness can only take you so far in flavor you need something sweet, sour, spicy and earthy to balance it out.

At nice restaurants the servers don’t bother you every ten minutes, it’s well timed , great servers are always watching you but you never notice them.
Always salt that steak with your fingers not the spoon, like you did the second time. It’s your salt. And I’m having Toro tonight and the place I go in New Jersey is amazing and it’s $13 per piece, so same. Also salmon belly at $11 per piece. And I agree with you never ever sauce a good steak. My sushi dinner tonight will be around $175 for two people, Excellent quality sushi is not cheap and it is considerably better. Always get the good stuff if you can.
