    I own the Barista Touch and I think this was a fair and accurate review, but I think you might not have realized that you can manually froth the milk on this machine, too. I gave up on using the automatic frothing for latte art, but using the manual frothing I've been able to produce silky microfoam with a bit of practice. In that respect there is one downside, that you need to purge the steam wand (manually) prior to using it in the manual mode or you'll end up with around 5ml or so of water in your milk. The same workflow as any other steam wand, really. You'll see the option for manual steaming appear when you raise the wand during the normal workflow.

      He may not have read the owner's manual. I love mine for the automatic frothing. I don't plan on using the optional manual frothing. In fact, that's the reason I purchased mine and had it only for a couple of days ago. I previously had an Italian made prosumer machine (Victoria) that costs over $1k.

      @@marcellaworthey1776 The only difference I can see between the Pro and the Touch is that with the Pro you can configure the preinfusion time. I wish you could do that on the Touch. It's stupid that you can't. However, I'm getting to the point where I'm tweaking so many parameters that I may end up trading this in for a Decent machine regardless.

    Thank you for this upload! Funnily enough i was wondering about the grinder and upper burr settings for this machine yesterday and came across your video on the Barista Pro upper burr adjustment with your table of the different steps. So far, from one days guesswork, I think the grinders and upper burr steps are identical for these two machines - i stand to be corrected of course. For anyone who's interested, your video on the Pro upper burr adjustment goes well together with this one.

    I’ve had the touch for about a year now. It’s nice, not great, not bad, but nice. You definitely need to run at least one shot through the porta filter before you get rolling. I typically use one of the pressured/double wall baskets. I’ll put the other basket on top of the espresso mug (fits perfectly). The hot water goes through the pressurized porta filter, drains down to the normal filter and runs through the normal filter into the mug, that way I heat three things at once. Then grind beans, swap filter baskets, and good to go. Note a dish towel is typically needed to swap the baskets because they’re hot (obviously).
    The steam wand is pretty convenient, as I don’t care for the art. I would say I wish the machine had programmable milk types for the steam wand. Whole, 2%, 1%, and milk alternatives all steam differently so it would’ve been pretty ingenious to incorporate the different types in the automatic steam wand.
    Agreed on the 58mm basket; would’ve been very nice. My guess is they couldn’t fit the (presumably larger) heating unit for a 58mm basket in that Express body/shell.
    Overall I like it. I’m pretty sure the price has dropped some since it’s initial release, so it’s probably more worth it. The grinder gets the job done as well. It’s great for the intent of the machine. Medium to dark roasts is good, lighter roasts meh…

    Thank you so much for all your reviews! They really helped me dial in (lol) what mattered most to me and what I thought my spouse would be able to operate successfully. We had so much fun all weekend getting our new Breville Touch exactly right!! It is an outstanding choice for us. Allows me to do a bit of futzing, which I love, but is totally manageable for my spouse. And DANG it pulls really, really good coffee! And the milk foam is fab (even my half soy/half oat-almond not so much). We got the machine for each other for Valentine’s Day and couldn’t be happier. And your videos really made the whole process low stress-dare I say …FUN!

    I find that for certain pre-programmed choices the amount of grind isn’t quite enough and doesn’t allow the tamper to do much, and tamping with a pressurized filter basket isn’t as necessary and can cause so slow of an extraction. I find a bottomless filter basket and more grams of coffee works better.

    Bought this machine a few months ago. Great purchase decision. Very happy with it. The milk texture is good enough for latte art with great microfoam, but it tends to produce some big bubbles on top that you need to tap out everytime, quite annoying but not too bad. Just make sure to purge the steam wand before actually steaming your milk and you’ll see a great improvement.

    Thanks for this. I went with the barista pro for the quicker heat times and wondered if I should've just spring for the touch. After watching, I'm glad I didn't. The preset options are a neat touch (pun intended lol) but if I've learned anything from channels like this one, you want to dial in every bean anyway, so I'd never be using them. Similar story with the milk froth temperature (although I admit I'm a little more jealous of that as I'm not always keen to practice latte art).

    TH-cam only started to recommend videos about Breville machine after I had already purchased the Touch lol. Google is all knowing nowadays.
    By the way it doesn't look like the Touch has a panarello. I've been using it for some time and auto-steaming makes a similar sound to what I hear during manual steaming. You know, high pitch rizz sound in the beginning, and lots of soft rzzz sound afterwards. I think it stores a specific amount of air somewhere in the tube, depending on the foam setting, then releases the air at the beginning of steam. I know how to steam manually and have done it a few times on this machine, so I'm pretty sure the manual wand works as normal.
    Also, the grinder burr on my machine is actually the same one as the Baratza Encore ESP. They even put a promotional sticker on the bean hopper, which yours didn't seem to have. Maybe it's a new thing?

  • @talalalqadhi2666
    @talalalqadhi2666 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I own a barista touch and it can make excellent milk texture for latte art. You need fresh whole fat milk and set the froth level to 2 or 3 depending on what brand of milk you are using.
    I’ve been using this machine for 2 years now and this feature makes me wonder why isn’t it available in more espresso machines because of how good it is.
    Also about the group head temperature I recommend using single pressurized basket to heat up the group head and then switching to the normal basket. This method will make your extraction 10x better.

      Question, do you experience your drip tray filling up quite frequently? I cleaned and emptied mine last night and it seems to be a third full again today... @@peytonpeck it does fill up much quicker than the express. The reason could be that It dispenses water when switched on to the drip tray and it does an auto purge after steaming milk. All of these functions could be reasons why the drip tray gets full much quicker.

    Please my friend I need some help with my Barista Touch! I am weighing my beans with a dosing cup, using a distribution and tamping tool that allows me to be consistent every time. I also prime the machine by running a brew for at least 8 seconds through an empty portafilter and basket, and dry the basket thoroughly before adding the coffee. I do this before each espresso. Despite all my consistencies and efforts, the first coffee I make each day extracts in about 27 seconds, and the second (which I make immediately afterwards) takes MUCH longer. It drips from the spouts for a while before it flows and takes about 44 seconds to get the same yield. The grind size is exactly the same each time. Do you have any advice for me? It would be very very much appreciated!

      How is your tamping? I've noticed this on my Delonghi lately. If I tamp one to tight vs the next shot where it's just right the difference in time can be huge. Also it was my grind size.

      How fresh are the beans? I have read that beans should be grounded after an initial three days of being roasted. Seems that the coffee is being under extracted. You should try for 18 grams in, and 36 grams out for a one to two ratio, with a timed shot of about 32 thru 36 seconds. Some people opt for a 1 to 3 ratio, with 18 grams an, and about 54 grams out, but with the same time of around 32 seconds. If the pour is quicker than this, it is definitely being under extracted.

      Same speed, and potentially better quality because it’s a manual steam arm (but you need to learn the technique). Oracle is hands-free, and can steam at the same time as brewing because it’s a dual boiler setup, but you sacrifice a bit of quality for the convenience

    I’ve always thought this was a weird machine. It approaches endgame budget but seems kind of like a cross between a manual and a automatic. Like you’re gonna take the time to do all the coffee stuff but then settle for a panorello auto milk froth? Idk

    • @LifestyleLab_
      @LifestyleLab_  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it automates what you CAN automate without starting to sacrifice quality. Puck prep is very very tough to automate, even the Oracle doesn’t quite get it right. So this keeps that part manual, and automates the milk texturing which is easier to do to 80-90% of the quality of manual steaming

Unlike when you buy a fridge and spend more money, you get more features/quality and anyone can use it, an espresso machine is about trade-offs of quality and ease of use/repeatability. Nespresso makes a good shot and it’s obviously consistent and easy and no mess. A super automatic requires more work, tastes better than Nespresso but is more complex, less reliable and more expensive. The Oracle tries to blend the best of manual machines with a super automatic, but it’s still not simple enough for some people.
