@Adrijana Radosevic Nah you lose me there. LF should only feel grateful that they managed to cast an actor like Adam Driver after what happened with the prequels and their actors(valid for all the sequels' actors tbh). Him and his skills alone made Kylo the best character of the new trilogy(and the only one that sells lol), a monumental feat considering that shit of a script he had to work with.
He's also quite literally the only actor I've ever found attractive in the last 10 years, I love his face and his voice, so I'm kind of the wrong person to lament about his supposed "ugliness" to🤷🏻‍♀️

The sequels made everything pointless. JJ Abram's lazy desperation to make the Sequel Trilogy just like the Original Trilogy wrecked the whole thing.
Rebels are still Rebels, doesn't matter if they won the Galactic Civil war, they gotta stay underdogs, because nostalgia. No new jedi or republic, Empire is as strong as ever. Whole OT victory is nullfied
Palpatine is back, because he was the last boss in the OT, so we get another throne room showdown. So much for Anakin destroying the sith.
Leia is still leading a small rebel cell. Han is back to being a smuggler. Luke doesn't restore the Jedi. They're in the same spot as they were in the start of the OT. Almost no character development from them. In most ways, they regressed.
Almost all the new characters are reimagining of the old ones. Rey is new Luke the desert planet hero, finds droid with important info Goes to remote planet and learns to be the last jedi
. PLOT TWIST is the secret offspring of a sith.
Poe, former drug Smuggler turned ace rebel pilot. JJ decided to make him Han 2.0 out of nowhere since he can't help himself.
Kylo, former Skywalker jedi who wiped the jedi out, changed his name and serves deformed emperor. Dies saving someone he loves from Palpatine. He had so much potential to be more than a Vader clone but the writers were creatively bankrupt and gave him the same arc as Vader.
Finn, the one major deviation- we never saw a stormtrooper turned Jedi. Naturally they had no idea what to do with him since there was no source material.
Ends with Rebels beating the Empire, Palpatine explodes, redeemed Skywalker dead. One jedi left to restart the Order. Back to the end of ROTJ.

Luke awoke with a snort, sat up, and rubbed his head. He picked up his half-empty bottle of green milk and left his hut, walking a little unsteadily into the bright light of a new day. He gave the bottle a cross look. "I am *never* drinking that bantha poodo again as long as I live," he muttered, and tossed the bottle over his shoulder. It bounced down the craggy cliff face to splash into the water below.
"Master Luke?" a small voice said. Luke turned to see a slender dark-haired girl in her early teens. "I...got the other students up and started on Forms practice...but I wasn't sure what we should do next..." she said nervously.

Louis DROUARD the mandalorian does not have any current plot holes. If something has been addressed and not yet resolved or something seems out of place it’s cause it hasn’t ended yet. Also I thought the mandalorian had filler episodes too but if you actually watch them things and relationships are established that come relevant later in the plot. Nothing displayed in the show has not had a purpose for being there, and if yiu try say resent episodes are filler episodes it’s because an introduces plot element hasn’t been resolved. For example the dark troopers displayed at the end of one of the seeming filler episodes in the lava planet after escaping snow monsters, they will be relevant later in the season. However I will admit some of the plot for estance when boo catan came out of no where to save the shiny man and little green boy from drowning that was fairly convenient plot. But that is among the limited lists of complaints and problems I have with the series

In absolute it may not be a plot hole but it's still a problem with the film because it's so goddamn confusing. Everyone scratches their head at this line and that's not something you want when revealing how your supposedly dead big baddie came back to life

The whole trilogy tried to lean on the originals as like a formula, but they even failed to do that. Like the main cast of characters is literally designed to just replace the old group we all know and love from the originals. Not every character has a direct parallel but most do. Poe is the new Walmart version of Han, Rey is kind of like they put Luke and Leia together but made her really whiny and annoying, bb8 is literally just an r2 clone, kylo is fake darth Vader. Like why does he need a helmet with a mask? Darth Vader had a legitimate reason for being in his suit, kylo had one just because they were copying Vader. They have the classic mean and cold military leader (I don’t even remember his name because the movies are so forgettable). The first order is literally just a new version of the empire, the resistance is the rebel alliance. It’s literally so derivative but in such a bad way. I also hate how they relied so much on the old characters but they somehow made it so they add nothing to the story. Like they spent all the money and effort to get all of these actors back and then they just ruin their characters, they kill Han off immediately for no reason, Luke returns to everyone’s excitement only for them to ruin his character completely. Why even bring them back if that was how you were gonna treat the characters? People hate on the prequels but they took the pre-existing concept and EXPANDED on it, explaining things that we didn’t understand and setting the stage beautifully for the original trilogy. The prequels were derivative in the right way, they were still Star Wars but they were totally their own. The sequels try so hard to copy the original movies that they end up distancing themselves even more from Star Wars. I’m just glad the mandalorian is so good

    @nicodemusedwards6931 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Well, imma get shit no matter what I say so...
I grew up with the Prequels. I enjoy them. As an adult, I enjoy them more due to the world they helped create, their themes and messaging about war and politics, and that they are responsible for the Clone Wars. They are not good films. As films, they’re god awful.
I think the main problem with the sequels over the prequels is that the sequels are better produced, written, directed, and have better effects, but are largely devoid of meaning.
The Force Awakens is aggressively ok, but doesn’t really have anything to say. J.J Abrams mystery box approach doesn’t really do well for me, since it creates questions that he doesn’t have answers for, which isn’t a good mystery. A good mystery is one the audience can actually solve beyond guesswork. Kylo is an ok villain, Rey was an ok protagonist, it’s a very ok movie.
The Last Jedi is the definition of a mixed bag. It had parts I love and parts I hate. That movie needed a few more edits and rewrites of the script to get its point across. I enjoyed what it was trying to say and think it is important. I don’t agree that it was trying to ruin or invalidate Star Wars or trying to let the past die, but rather that someone needs to learn from their past and grow beyond it. That where you come from doesn’t determine where you’re going, and that you should strive to learn from what came before and grow beyond rather than emulate it. Is the movie perfect? God no, but I get what it was trying to say. It could’ve done it way better, but I get what it wanted to say. Kylo believed the message was to let the past die. Rey learned that one must take the past and grow from it, not bury it. That’s why she had to accept that she was from nobody. That she wasn’t born special. Instead, her abilities are her own, not the handle downs of someone else. Is she a Mary Sue? Maybe, but I still like the message of not needing to come from someone or somewhere special to be special.
The Rise of Skywalker is intellectually vapid. It has nothing to say beyond STAR WARS, and tries to retcon the entire last movie. This is symbolized in one scene. Kylo Ren in the last movie realized he isn’t Vader, and can never be Vader. So his mask, the thing he made to emulate his grandfather? He destroys it. Smashes it to bits. He’s not gonna try to be Vader anymore. Only Kylo.
In Rise of Skywalker, he hastily cobbles it back together with red hot glue.
If you like these movies, that’s fine. I’m happy you can enjoy something I don’t. If you don’t agree with me, that’s ok too. You’re entitled to your interpretation. If you think I’m a retarded faggot who should go hang himself for his opinions on a series about robots and space wizards fighting space Nazis... I mean I appreciate the suggestion, but I won’t be doing that. Thank you though, I appreciate the comment. Much like a Sith, your hatred gives me power.
Thank you and goodnight this crumbling world.

They undid every accomplishment from the ot to prop up their shi**y new characters.
Plus, we barely got anything worth watching with Luke, Leia or Lando. These are legendary characters and they have a handful of scenes. Like they thought we didn't care about their stories.

I 100% agree and I (and probably millions of other people) expected that to be the starting point when Disney announced the sequels. That is so obviously where the sequels should have gone.
And to preemptively refute anyone who says "that would be so boring because we expect it to happen, I want something new!" listen here buster. When you expect something to happening because it's logical and makes sense, that's not boring, that means the previous movies was so clear that viewers can feel out what happens next. That's not boring, that's _great_ story telling because it makes sense!
And it's not like the sequels would be predictable with this premise either! You can literally do almost anything in the new story, make a bad guys almost anyone, make the new main characters almost anyone, make the plot almost anything! The possible are endless with only a few minor story constraints to preserve continuity and logic. It's not that hard to do this!

And what does Rey do instead of accepting that she‘s a Palpatine? She changes her name to Skywalker. She completely denies her heritage.

@@brianburkhardt3692 The biggest issue though, is that no one told Rian Johnson what the plan was. JJ Abrams had all these things planned out and his little mystery boxes set up (Like with Rey's parents) but didn't tell Johnson anything. Johnson had no idea what the plan for episode 9 was. He didn't know who Rey's parents were meant to be, if anyone. When he directed episode 8, he knew as much about the story as the audience did. So he did what he could. He took thoughts and ideas that he believed would work and be fluid.
He thought the big bad of the story was always meant to be Kylo Ren, so he took the story there. He thought the idea that Rey's parents *had* to be huge figures in the Star Wars world to be out-dated and unfair for the kids in the audience who wanted to be Jedi, so he made her parents nobody as a message of "Anyone can be a Jedi, it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or who your parents are." And in answer to the biggest criticism I've seen: he, SHOCKINGLY, had no idea that Carrie Fisher was going to pass away. So he didn't have a death scene planned for her. This was also one of Johnson's first big-budget movies, so I can forgive him for mistakes he made along the way (story-wise) as: how can he become a better director if he never makes mistakes he can learn from?
Also if the plan was always to have Palpatine come back, then they should have started that set-up in episode 7. They knew it was going to be a trilogy and something that large of a twist (to bring back a character that is DEAD) needs to be set-up pronto. Not revealed necessarily, but set up. Throw in some of his ideals early on. Have Kylo or Snoke quote one of his more famous lines. Have Rey have nightmares about fighting Kylo while a figure in shadows watches on.
I'm pretty sure JJ Abrams claiming Palpatine was always meant to come back is a straight-up lie. I think he meant for Snoke to be the big bad, but when Snoke was killed in episode 8, he decided on Palpatine, then tried to claim "Well it was ALWAYS meant to be that way. It's Johnson's fault it didn't work! >:("
EDIT: Also, it definitely feels like JJ Abrams was trying to just copy/paste the original trilogy. Johnson took a risk and stepped outside the status quo. It didn't pan out with Johnson, but at least he tried to be original rather than just... Copy and paste.
And back to Abrams saying Palpatine was always the plan: Abrams wasn't even supposed to direct episode 9. He got pulled in after something happened with the third director they had set-up for episode 9. The Sequels were doomed the moment it was decided each should have a separate director.

All of the other characters treat her like a hero, but any time she does something heroic only Kylo Ren ever sees it. Example: At the beginning of Rise of Skywalker, either Finn or Poe calls her their best fighter, but none of them have ever been present to see her fight. Everyone treats her like a hero because she is supposed to be the hero, not because she earned it.

Ya know what is funny, that is pretty much true in the books as well. The two that come to mind, have her just sitting around, sulking, and talking to Leia. Everyone else goes off to rebuild the resistance, but she and Leia just have chats. Supposedly, Rey is protecting Leia. But in reality, they never told the authors writing these books what the plan was.
As a massive Star Wars fan, I found it pretty insulting just how much range they gave JJ to run amok in the galaxy. There was supposed to be a group in charge of all this stuff, The Star Wars Story Group, but clearly the Execs didn't want to stick to continuity. So when the script was written, they never even gave an outline to the authors. The books called "Journey to the Rise of Skywalker" do absolutely zero to prep you for the movie, which I found incredibly odd. Fortnight gets a cool event with the Palpatine Transmission, but the books do not have any type of setup for THE MOVIE to end your Trilogy and your SAGA? They messed this up soooooooooo bad and it makes me ill just thinking about it. The books are so nice, lots of context, lots of themes explored, cool characters exist out there, and none of them appear to be in the movies. It is just sad that they gave us a setup in 7 that seemed ok, then did some weird things in 8 (some good, some not), and finally just chuck the whole thing down a reactor shaft and hope for a cool explosion in 9 (which we didn't even really get that by the way).

Rey is a terribly conceived heroine. Her character has no relevance to anything happening in the narrative. Her being a Palatine was clearly an a**pull thought of at the last minute to force her into the story somehow. The only interesting new character in this entire debocle is Kylo Ren.

I almost feel Terrio can’t be blamed for this film. There’s nothing in the movie that makes me think of Terrio’s past screenwriting, and because of how much relentless meddling was done throughout the production and even up to weeks before the film came out, Terrio and Abrams must’ve been doing rush 1st draft rewrites on the fly on a daily (hourly??) basis that the priority was just stitching together a narrative that has a start-middle-end, rather than anything deeper.
Would be curious what the original script looked like.

    Two things:
    - this movie is like that scene is the Mr Bean movie, where he accidentally damages a valuable painting and every time he tries to fix it, it just ends up making it worse. And yes, we end up with a movie which is, like that "Whistler's Mother" painting, the image of a body crafted with skill and elegance with a head crudely drawn with a disposable cheap blue pen. It is now worthless and ruined. Thanks, J.J.
At least TLJ knew what it wanted to do...
    - second thing is (and I've written this in another comment section), how this impacted the person who introduced me to Star Wars, my older sister. When she was a teen in the 80s she saw the original trilogy and was mesmerized by it. Being her kid sister meant I tried to emulate everything she did and like everything she liked. Pretty soon I was a SW fan as well. My niece also loved Star Wars, she dressed up as Rey, she collected the Lego ships, she bought books, she was obsessed with porgs and BB8. We were fans, all of us. But when my sister and I came out of the theatre after TROS I saw something in my her demeanor that saddened me: she had just lost a significant portion of her joyful memories of being a Star Wars fan. This movie killed that in her. I'm not joking or being hyperbolic, you could feel the disappointment in her silent walk to the parking lot. I laughed and facepalmed my way through this movie, but her... she was just sad and silent.
So I hate TROS. I hate it for taking that away from her.
