I don't watch many guitar youtubers, but I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. You have a great presence and are incredibly knowledgeable in terms of how to shape high gain tone. Keep it up!
The Seymour Duncan full shred is very articulate when it comes to upper registry notes. I don't always enjoy how the lower notes sound and chords are very clear, but sounds good for thrash stuff. It's like a compressed JB
Despite your 'belligerent amateur' tongue-in-cheek self-referencing, you do a great job of showing off how to set up amps, pair them with appropriate cabinets, speakers, and pedals. Most guitarists I know and have met have very little knowledge about setting things up and just do the whole Tube Screamer into a cranked amp and scoop all the mids out. Your channel is refreshing and valuable to the metal/thrash community to learn about how to actually dial gear in.
The Herbert Diezel sounds glorious especially boosted, I really like channel 2 with the Boss sd1. I used to own that Randall XL cab and paired it with a Rivera Knucklehead tre’ and it too sounded huge. Kick ass video Kyle keep killing it.
people actualy say it's not for thrash?! It is my main thrash amp. I use more intensity in the mid cut then you do (in my MKI), but either way it sounds fantanstic. I think you did it justice. The character definitly passed through.
Awesome! I was hoping you would get a MkIII in for a demo! Even as a Marshall/5150 guy myself, there’s just something about the Diezel Herbert I’ve always loved. Excellent tones and content as usual Kyle!
Sounds killer ! I had a mk2 Herbert and loved it though my orange 4/12 .. my Mesa cab not so much kinda like what you were saying .. kinda lose and flubby
I've never been blown away by German amps with the exception of a Diezel D-Moll through a Marshall Mode Four K100 and some active pickups, and it sounded KILLER. Even then they're all so expensive. I can find used Mesa's for so much cheaper
My Herbert mark 2 has a diezel rear loaded V30 4x12 because I wanted a little familiar metal sound to it, more traditional. If I get a front loaded diezel with V30s it will be tighter in the bass and quicker, mote immediate attack, less full, and up front sounding? I was thinking of a front loaded to use alone, and sometimes with the rear loaded diezel 4x12 for a third, blended choice of tones. Is My Diezel mk2 a good choice for modern, tight metal of all levels of distortion, or is an Engl Savage 120 se a better choice for tightness?
Mid-cut can be actually use like a mid-boost or create such illusion when level is set a little bit higher. Personally I think for heavy riffing Diezel mids might be overwhelming/too congested sounding with typical 1960AV which probably is used by many. It is a matter of preference but I liked Herbert MK2 with VHT FB Straight with P50E speakers, it is just evil. Every Diezel model has its own vibe so somebody asked if it makes sense to get Herbert and cut lows, yet it does, because this one has better headroom and clarity imho than some other models for riffing. I think Einstein shares similar treble signature though it is more low mid mid oriented, Hagen is smoother, upper mids voiced, Fokker has kind of Runt/Orange vibe, quite different. And the clean channel is quite, punchy clean, just right, not too warm, not too thin, good considering how heavy can it go.
Your videos are so awesome for people seeking tone!! Keep on the great work!! I love them! Could you do a comparison video with two Mesa Rectifiers one with 6L6s and other with EL34s?
Given there are two camps for amp tone: those that preference low mids (death metal typically) and those preference high mids (thrash and black metal typically)....a review of the Hughes and Kettner Triamp Mk III would be very interesting on here, as channels 3A/3B are modern sounding (i.e. recto-ish based - i.e. lower mids focused)) and channels 2A (Marshall-ish)/2B (5150-ish) are traditional sounding (i.e. higher mid focused). Love your amp reviews!; most informative on youtube.
At the start of the video I wasn't pleased but the more you dialed it in the more you changed my opinion. The drop c riffs with the solar sounded killer
The Diezel Herbert MK3 loves 300 watt Electro Voice signature Zakk Wylde Black Label's in a MESA OS RECTO STANDARD, anyone knocking MESA cabinets don't know shit about quality materials and construction techniques.
I wasn’t a big fan of Diezel amps for a long time…wasn’t into those really compressed tones I guess. Makes sense because at the time I was a hardcore Plexi type guy….until playing a Herbert. That changed it all. I love that Diezels are designed to sound good at low volumes and with the eq knobs at 12 o clock. One thing I prefer is EQs that don’t have these massive sweeps to them….you come to find that the really high-end guitar amps tend to have more usable, shallow EQ sweeps where there’s basically no way to make the amp sound like shit.
"you can go ahead and complain about $50 pedals in front of $4000 amps all you want......I don't give a shit......" this right here! this should be on a plaque in guitar stores in the pedal section. And yes the tone sounded killer, Like all amps how you test and dial settings to your ear and liking makes all the difference.
Dude you have over 40 cabs? Wowzuhs. I am having a hard enough time finding a worthwhile 3rd 4x12 for my band's practice spot down here in North Florida.
Great content and good luck on making that milkshake a reality! I'm curious as to how you ended up with all of this glorious gear... Success in the audio industry? Bitcoin? Thanks.
@Kyle I have a video idea for you. Is it worth finding and old cheap cab and upgrading it with modern speakers. Or is it better to just buy a new cab. Not sure if you already covered this! Cheers.
How does it compare in play, tone and response versus the Mezzabarba MZero amp? If I love my Mezzabarba, would the new Diezel Herbert MK3 it be a fun amp to play and have a unique sound to add to the Mzero? I don't want a bunch of the same sounding amps. I have the Mezzabarba MZero and Bogner Uberschall in my studio and looking for a final third high amp to balance these two bad boys out but do not want same amp sound as these two.
I have a Mezzabarba Trinity and had an Uberschall Rev blue twice. My Herbert mk3 is very very different than the Mezzabarba, both in tone and response. It is closer to the Uberschall, but still quite different and definitely more versatile. I love my mk3; really one of my all time favorite amps and I have owned a bunch of good ones. I don't think it would be redundant with what you have.
@@SluggerStark oh man you have great taste! I want a Diezel amp but not sure to get the Herbert or VH4? The VHX looks killer with all kinds of features too but more expensive.
@@GuitarsAndSynths Thanks man! My collection has grown over the years....probably too many amps for a musician who doesn't gig anymore, but ahh well. VH4 vs Herbert: Both have those typical Diezel big and broad mids, smooth highs and huge 3d lows. The Herbert, due to its power section is capable of getting downright absurdly massive, while staying together regardless of volume or tuning. It also has more give/bounce under the fingers and more saturation than the VH4, so it feels great to play. The VH4, when set up proper, is a very tight, compressed and punchy amp, but also stiffer to play. I would consider both the VH4 and Herbert modern classics in that they both really have a signature other amps don't. Both amps are very versatile, but I would say if you play alot of down tuned stuff....or want that Diezel sound with a bit more give/saturation...Herbert. As for the VHX, well....I just bought one and will get a chance to check it out in about a week. I can certainly report back if want! It seems like an amazing amp and I am pretty excited to give it a go! :)
People have to understand you play a distinct style. I play a different style and Diezels for me well. So much is personal. It doesn't mean the amp sucks and it doesn't mean another guy won't love the amp, when another guy could hate it.
My Peavey Vypyr gots a diezel setting on it I use it for the Metallica live tone I feel like putting EMG's in my Ibanez AX120 for it can roar. I need a real Diezel Herbert after watching this video.
I haven't heard anything bad about the Diezels. This one sounds pretty crushing to me, especially when you put some type of overdrive in front. I know James Hetfield was using them along with Mesa boogies.
Peter told me it is not an Mickey Mouse amp… so thats why those high notes sound that full. Jokes aside. Really liked the amp in this Demo compared to the one with the Savage. Proofs that the Cab is Key for a Herbert. I could not believe at first how boomy it sounded back in the other one. Cause my Mk1 is tight af if you dial it in a good way. Might need an SD1 as well now hahaha. And thanks for the advice with the midcut… have this amp for close to 10 years and never used it that way🙌🏼 How do you think it compares to a Rectifier in your opinion?Especially in the playing „feel“!?
A recto is a very dry feeling amp unless you use a boost. You can definitely dial in some saturation with the Herbert, which definitely feels different than a recto and its brother, the VH4. It feels good for leads, but if you like some of that elastic bounce like you get in a Friedman or Bogner, it doesn't have that.
Wait, I thought you found Diezels too broad and not right, high muddy enough!!!! I'm planning to get the D-Mol which is the little brother or a used Diezel Mark III. They claim the one channel does great rock and hard rock tones? I don't want an amp that only does metal, but they seem versatile. I don't play thrash but I do play everything from Rush to VH, to Alice in Chains to Alter Bridge to Deftones and Slipknot style tones. I play a lot of lead and that's one thing I love about Diezel, Bogner PRS, Dual Recs and Mark series amps. Love the D-Mol and Herbert for lead. Surprisingly it works well for leads since it doesn't have prominent mids.
I currently have a Diezel Dmoll which I just retubed and found that the bias in half of the power section was very cold compared to the other half, after some adjustments bam sounding awesome. Nonetheless tweaking these diezel isn't easy considering you have a couple different factors that will dictate how good or how bad these can sound. Mainly individual gain and independent channel volume vs. the master volume, the more you push that channel volume and gain to your taste will obviously push that power section more and get you that tonal goodness you seek, the mid cut can also be used as a Mids boost which if used properly makes your tone sound real thick (I will say the midrange on these amps is flexible in a good way, maybe not to those anti tweakers but there's alot of variety in the tones you can get). Experimenting with an overdrive/boost with the mid boost function is fun but I know mine is not the Herbert but the Dmoll definitely punches through the mix and sounds killer , I will be trying to get my hands on a Herbert down the line
Certain heads sounds best for the cabinet the maker has paired with their own cabs... I used to own a 90's VHT Pitbull head. I plugged it into my friend's Marshall cab and the head didn't sound very good at all...Plugged the head back up the VHT cab and the full-on tone of that amp was back. High end "Boutique" amps do not sound the same if you're using a cab that's different from what it was designed to be used with it's own makers cabs...Imo.
I own the STL TONALITY Lasse Lammert that has this amp in it and it’s my favorite amp by far. It also has the purple nightmare and a modded plexi and the Diezal is by far the best sounding of the 3. The mid cut option with intensity dial is beautiful. I absolutely love it. I’m considering buying the actual amp I love it so much. Have yet to play a VH4 tho.
i bought a mk ii , flew to uk to get it and brought it home, i could not get along with it at all. so flubby i couldnt believe. keep in mind i was using a 4x12 mesa os cab. i was also told by many people that the diezel doesnt work with that cab. i wasnt about to give another 1k for a diezel cab in the chance it might be better. had this white noise overlaying the distortion that i didnt like, made me wanna switch it off after ten minutes, i actually thought there was a tube issue, by advice from Peter Diezel himself i replace all tubes. no difference whatsoever. just not for me. a friend from another band bought it and loves it ! gotta admit his tones sounded great, just again personally it didnt do anything for me.
@@joeyperez6993 I agree with you, Although I have some video clips of the amp at home , at lower volumes I couldn’t fault it . More than bedroom volume but not call the cops volume is sounded and felt great. Pushed at rehearsal levels it became unbearable for me to listen too. So harsh and that high end noise over the top.. So have a superkraken, same for that, ok at lower volume, unbearable and piercing to my ears at band volume. my rev f triple , uberschall and my archon do not no this. End of the day just not for me I suppose
These import taxes (however that shit works I’m the opposite of expert) on amps back and forth overseas is CRAZY. It’s hard to justify $4,300 on an amp. I understand some boutique brands offering crazy cleans like the Two Rocks and the HiWatt Custom 50 and 100. There are so many professional high gain at half the price. Does anyone know what these go for in Germany? The temptation to know what one of these is like is definitely there.
Machine Head probably wouldn't sound as good playing thru this amp, but Corrosion of Conformity would. I love both bands. Seems like it might have a niche but it's good at it.
"You can go ahead and complain about $50 pedals in front of $4,000 amps all you want... I personally don't give a $hit" (Kyle) hahahahahahaha okay so now I've subscribed, and I also agree. It sounds way better with that $50 pedal. Yesssss, I love the mid-cut be it to get a scooped sound or a more tame or tighter mid sound. The Intensity knob acts like a Q-factor of a waveform in a sense, where the level just increases the amplitude of the curve. You can definitely get a more aggressive but not so scooped sound out of that overpriced but outstanding amplifier using the midcut settings. I cam across your channel after Fluff recommended you recently, and this video definitely sold me. Liked and subscribed brotha, keep crushing it! Great demo my friend, and thank you for putting a boost pedal in front of the amp. For the love of god the amp sounds amazing, but to tighten up the low end end adding an overdrive with low gain, tone no higher than 11, and the level at maybe noon or 1 tightens up the booming low end, while the mid-cut intensity at about 10:30 and level at 12 or 1 is where it's at. I've never been much of a fan of the G12s, but that amp sounds STUPID F'n AMAZING through the Diezel 4x12 front loaded G12s man. Awesome bro 🤘

I'll only play 2 amps. Diezel vh4 and H&K Triamp mk1.
Oh dude... I hope it's good
Yes, I need to complete the trilogy
@@TheOtherJohnBrowne trilogy? Vh4, herbert and what?
@@bulletrider8893 No, Herbert mk 1, Herbert mk 2 and Herbert mk 3
@TheOtherJohnBrowne please let us know what your experience is with them!
For that kind of money I'd get a engl savage 120. But not bad amp they just cost to much 🙄 another great video my man
Two rock charges you the same amount for just 5 knobs
Kyle! Please sell me that Randall cab!
Nice guitar!
180 watts! In pairing the speakers, should in theory have 360 watts of speaker power. Sheesh! I have 2 x 20 watt greenbacks in my cab....
Thats funny, when he compared it against the ENGL savage mk 2, he wasnt a fan of it. Feelings change?
I mean, did you even watch this?
@@belligerentamateur to be honest, just a few minutes, im not knocking you at all, i have both of those amps, rock on!
i bought a mk ii , flew to uk to get it and brought it home, i could not get along with it at all. so flubby i couldnt believe. keep in mind i was using a 4x12 mesa os cab. i was also told by many people that the diezel doesnt work with that cab.
i wasnt about to give another 1k for a diezel cab in the chance it might be better.
had this white noise overlaying the distortion that i didnt like, made me wanna switch it off after ten minutes,
i actually thought there was a tube issue, by advice from Peter Diezel himself i replace all tubes. no difference whatsoever.
just not for me.
a friend from another band bought it and loves it ! gotta admit his tones sounded great, just again personally it didnt do anything for me.
@@joeyperez6993 I agree with you,
Although I have some video clips of the amp at home , at lower volumes I couldn’t fault it .
8:00 min start test
My name is Diezel
These import taxes (however that shit works I’m the opposite of expert) on amps back and forth overseas is CRAZY. It’s hard to justify $4,300 on an amp. I understand some boutique brands offering crazy cleans like the Two Rocks and the HiWatt Custom 50 and 100. There are so many professional high gain at half the price. Does anyone know what these go for in Germany? The temptation to know what one of these is like is definitely there.
You can get one here in germany for 2800 € what is approx 3000 US $. Pretty insane taxes
First time I can recall you swearing on the channel
Definitely mean!
KYLE !!!!!!! BADASSERY at its BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Soulfulness
I've never heard someone call these "Deetzil" amps
It’s the proper German pronunciation, most Americans like me assumed it was a play on words to do with fuel.
That’s the correct pronunciation
I've called it deezel.
Machine Head probably wouldn't sound as good playing thru this amp, but Corrosion of Conformity would. I love both bands. Seems like it might have a niche but it's good at it.
I love yer video Kyle. 4000 5000 6000 bucks for amps? Really.
Gotta say, Herbert is a fat boi and I love it. Seems like it would do nu metal really well too.
Oh it really shines with lower tuning to my ears.
I feel the same way every time I see someone playing a Hiwatt DR103 through a Marshall cabinet (Hiwatts sound horrible on Celestions IMO).
Now I want a milkshake
I got you in Pittsburgh, boo
@@belligerentamateur are you in Pittsburgh dude? If you are I'm in Greensburg. I'm in the midst of buying a new rig so I can join my friends band as a second axe player in Hostile Front. COVID really screwed up some shows they had booked. I know they are playing the Sub Alpine Club in Turtle Creek. The singer is getting on me about buying a new rig. Thanks for all the gear reviews. You are helping me narrow down the gear I want. Hostile Front is a Hardcore band with some thrash aspects. Do you think the Schecter Banshee GT would be a good choice?
@@Z17xMachine hey man! I'm actually in Erie but come to Pittsburgh often for gear and shows. As far as the Schecter, any guitar can do metal and hardcore tones as long as it has pickups that work with your rig, so it's really up to if you like the guitar or not, and if you know what you want out of it!
One thing about TH-cam...EVERYONE is an Expert in the comment section...
Holy crap! VapnFagan! Fun fact: I used to be a Facebook Admin for Psyclone Mods. I still vape and not pods lol. Didn't know you thrashed bro. What are you rocking dude? I'm in the midst of getting a new rig. Been looking at Schecter, Revv, and maybe a 5150 III I dunno haha so much to choose from.
@@Z17xMachine Hey bro! I assume Psyclone Mods is no more? I got a bunch of stuff, My favorite amps that i have at the moment would be my 80s Marshall Jubilee and my Ceriatone. checkout a few of my recent videos, i actually did a guitar or 2, Nothing at the level and quality that Kyle puts out but i tried lol.
@@VapnFagan Yeah Mac Vapor shut his doors down a little over a year ago I think. Maybe 2 years ago. I haven't talked to him for awhile after he stopped selling his atty's. Yeah man I'll check your videos out. I dig on the 80's gear too. It's good to see you are still around. Not many around after the vape hype. I could definitely see you growing a music channel dude. Do it up! I'm still subbed to your channel.
The chug dont work for me ..never has , yuk ! ..... Give me a big- super- roaring- hot rodded over driven tones any day ,, SOLDANO SLO 100 - Screams with Vengeance soaring higher ,,, Diezel has its place amongst amps !!....
Canadian- REVV 2 amps are ballsy and the REV 3 and 4 pedals for chug and mean over drive tones for the BOOST ! And , Laundry amps bouitique ,,Laundry amps has that elusive Brown sound ,The bloke who built them has an electrical back ground !( It all comes down to your budget , and the tone you crave !! ) I love the Balls to the walls tone from Wolf Hoffman- ACCEPT-- its sick dirty n mean ! - and Gary MOORES lead saturation and sustain and screams ,thats my TONE Search- with a wee bit of Malcome and Angus and.Joe satch thrown in for good measure .... Maximum OVER Drive - Roaring down the road to HIGH VOLTAGE- HIGH GAIN - SUSTAIN TRAIN FEVER !! lol ............
Ted Nugent.... datchu? 🤨
I think Diezel did. an amazing Job on the Diezel due to chunk. The Idea is to put a Hiwatt 100 in High Gain with the Preamp. Not a lot of Tone, but impressive Low End. I‘m an owner Since it‘s been released. Good Amp, but it’s flaw is, the Treble Sounds boring. I will Not sell it. The Trick is the 180 Watts.
i thought my 6505+ was big. that thing is a BEHEMOTH
they put that amp on amphub and i HATE it sounds lke shit on that too
Well that’s a bummer!
Played several diezel amps and couldn’t bond with any of them and honesty this one isn’t any better
gear
I'm getting orange vibes
I don't hear 4 grand anywhere. Do a review with 8 big name high gain amps behind a partician and see who picks the best amp from sound only. No prices colors or shapes just sound. Set each one on kill.
Can you give me the settings for kill?
@@belligerentamateur dial in each one to the heaviest bottomgrunt chunk it can push. No straight up noon stuff. That's why we spend the $$. No boost pedals no backing tracks. The diesel is bad ass but pricey. Also not many show the difference a simple eq in the loop makes to a high gain amp. Great videos they are way helpful. 👍
11. haha.
Why in the hell would ANYONE need 180 watts???.. I can't even turn my 120 watt past 4 or 5. Talk about overkill🤣🤣🤟🍻
I can imagine Diezels FEEL great to play. But in terms tone, they always leave me with an impression of "yeah, that sounds like an amp". There's nothing that stands out at all. If I hear one and try to guess what it is, my guess would be just about anything haha.
I haven't heard them sound BAD, but I've also never heard one and thought it was interesting at all. I'd probably be happy with one, but I wouldn't seek one out.
in my experience the first VH4 versions have been the best amps that peter has ever build, he just tweaked a little too much since then in my opinion, the synergy herbert and vh4 moduls also sounds dull compared the the great other modules..
@@joeyperez6993 the other brands just choose the newest ones and they all sound great instead of the diezel stuff, peter himself just said that this was the best he could get out of just two tubes and the diezel preamps in general really need the special diezel designed power section to sound like they should! word! 🤓
@@joeyperez6993 yes i know thats the problem peter is working on a diezel 19" poweramp right now 🎸🙏
A used car or this? 🤔
