What I like to do when I start a car that's been sitting for a long time is use two-stroke gas. And your pistons and everything get oil as soon as they get gas works like a charm
The stripe W36 option is original to that car. What many people do is add it to their 442 if it did not have one. Problem is if the car didn't come with the stripe, the 442 emblem is moved forward slightly so when the stripe is added it is too close to the wheelwell. It ends up into the curve of the wheelwell and doesn't look right. Great project car, one year only unique styling on that car. Safe travels!
My first builder was an 83 cutlass I found at the back of a GM dealer ( repo special ). It had a 260 v8 and low power. I drove it to my neighbors salvage yard and pulled the motor. He had a 350 big block just like that car. I spent a week after my high school classes and swapped it in. It bolted right into metric turbo 350 trans and all. What a screamer it was and never lost a race. I miss that car so bad now. Thanks for the memories.
June Morgan had a Red 442 and both were what dreams are made of in the great state of Georgia! One fine young Lady and could dive like a demon with a smile!!!
My classmate & cousin resurrected his dads 68 442 4 speed “1985” swapped in 70 455 torqer 2 intake 850 Holley & man did it have a top end w a 2.56 posi , with that torque it would dip into the 13s in 1/4 but fast for 2 15 year olds that street raced by sneaking around , miss the 80s , neat car !
Well Miss Maverick that was one very good look of SHEAR PANIC!!!!! Thanks for sharing. New subscriber the old man’s garage turned me on to your channel. 🇺🇸👍
I have a ‘68 442 in about the same condition. Mine is all manual though so I have even more room under the hood. Glad that you got it fired up and running.
NIce car and would be a cool project! Yall are a good pair together for sure! Only thing freakin me out is pouring that gas on the carb and the dist and coil! I was like we r fixing to watch this thing burn down! Cant tell u how many times ive seen spark jump from an old points cap or coil wire on a car that has been sitting was trying to get running!
you can actually fill the float bowls by putting gas down the vent tube and get a little bit of idle and possibly a few revs out of it, for something that has been sitting for a long time I recommend using the premixed 2 stroke gas that way the cylinders get a little extra oil with the gas, it'll help the rings on first start up, and help lube the carburetor. nice little tip I picked up from vice grip garage.
That 442 is a really cool car and could be cherry with some work, definitely gotta restore that olds. That should be a 400 in that 442, but I’d put a 4 speed back in it though. Definitely want to see more of that car, thanks for sharing.
Btw, love your car, currently going to get at my 69 cutlass ragtop, first start after purchase in 2014 was yesterday April 15th 2023. Needs total restoration.... P.E.I. Canada

Thank you! It actually ended up being the cam sync. We’ve had so many problems with that dang 6.0, but we just sold it last week and we, have two other 6.0s that seem much more reliable 😂 as well as a 7.3 and a 6.7 that never give us problems, aside from the HPOP in the 7.3 😂

A 68 Olds 442 with a manual is my favorite muscle car you two are entertaining
That stripe on the left fender makes this car look like someone crossed a 442 with a SuperBee
