    having purchased the DTSC 400 iv got to say im disappointed with just one aspect dust extraction but iv always had the rts 400 connected to the extractor so im used to true dustless performance and connecting the hose removes many of the benefits it which made me buy it in the first place, still im not sorry i bought it very nice to use and great festool service and guarantee

      Hi Michael, I don't think anyone could expect the dust extraction to be quite as good as a connected Festool extractor can deliver - otherwise there would be no point buying a proper extractor. For a machine without an extractor the cordless machine does a good job. Cheers. Peter

      this is true Peter I would say it retains 95% - 98% of the dust in the bag and the machine has already shown its quality its a great tool and I love the freedom it gives me. also I now have 1 small systainer to carry to and from the van were i had to carry the extractor so overall very happy and the space saving is terrific

    Festool should give you those sanders for helping to sell their products.

    • @NewBritWorkshop

      Hi Peter, They were returned. I rarely work off site and prefer my sanders to be connected to an extractor which means the addition of a mains cable is not such a burden. Cheers. Peter

    I went looking at these on the Irish site for Festool. Seems crazy that a container and a power cable are the only reason the Set is 120 EUR more expensive than the Plus.

    If you want a cordless sander then it will only make sense if Festool produce a cordless extractor. Dewalt did it. Come on Festool making cordless Sanders is a great idea but they in particular need to be attended to an extractor and although it is still attached to a hose at least it should be cordless. Great video as always Peter

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dan, There is an in between approach - to use a dust collection bag which Festool have done and it works. Cheers. Peter

      New Brit Workshop hi and thank you for the reply. I have a corded random orbit sander that also came supplied with a dust bag. If I’m honest it doesn’t work very well at collecting dust. I’m not sure if a bag is the way forward especially when working with MDF. Maybe the Festool range with bag are better. Thanks again Peter, always a pleasure to watch your videos.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dan, Of course the bag is not quite as good as the attached vacuum would be but it is better than nothing and very handy up a ladder. Do take care with MDF although Medite is better as it has less Formaldehyde. Cheers. Peter

      A couple of workarounds for this Dan. We own the delta model and was so impressed bought a second. Firstly, you're right, the dust bag is rubbish for capturing dust, compared to a vac system at least. Secondly, like you, I wish Festool would do a cordless vac. I did a heap of research on cordless vacs a couple of years ago and the most powerful by far was from Milwaukee (the de Walt one was about half the power). So for small jobs or small spaces I hook the cordless Festool up to the cordless Milwaukee, think it's model 0880, with extended hose (hack) and a decent battery and off we go. It isn't as good as a mains vac of course but these little sanders are remarkable for dust extraction so you can get away with this system for a small job.
      The other workaround is a super long hose hooked up to your mains vac which we employ for interiors. The freedom of not getting caught up in a cord all the time is job changing and a heap faster.
      And agree with your final comment as well, great video as always Peter.

    is the difference between the three machines just the shape of the pad? Surely they could design one machine to do all three shapes - they are supposed to be clever designers.

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Norman, No, there is a bit more than that. Certainly the ETSC is a Random Orbit machine and the pad rotates - that would be a bit tricky with the other two. Peter

    • @WombleUK
      @WombleUK 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NewBritWorkshop just an FYI the Metabo sanders allow you to turn the rotate on & off & change the orbit from 2.5 & 5mm so it wouldn't be that hard for Festool have built one model with interchangeable bases.
      But that's not the Festool way, same with incompatibly with Festool router accessories or the new stupid Gen3 Systainers that do not have a single improvement over the T-LOC & a genius front handle that's incompatible with the T-LOC & cannot have front handle locked when stacked.
      I do like the dual battery/mains though which Milwaukee had on some kit for a few years now. But even with the bases issues I am still tempted by the DTSC ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Hi peter,
    With the plug-it adapter connected is there much difference in length between the rtsc and the rts? Also I noticed that the rated power output of the mains adapter for the rtsc is 150w so have you noticed any difference in performance between it and the corded 250w rts?

    • @NewBritWorkshop
      @NewBritWorkshop  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrew, Before I decided to make the video which will follow this one I used both the RTS 400 and RTSC 400 on one of the drawer fronts. In my view there was no real difference but I was not using both to check for that I was just using one with 180 grit and the other with 240 grit. Peter

    I would never use a sander that wasn’t attached to a dust extractor, which in turn powers my Sander so I see little benefit in cordless sanders. I’ll stick with my corded models.

      Dan Parks the new batteries of festool are equipped with Bluetooth to start their dust extractors. Separate button to start them via Bluetooth are also available.

    • @danparks8894
      @danparks8894 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      PhilmacFly that’s great technology but fundamentally one still has an extractor tube connected with to their sander making it tethered. Fundamentally, this heavily reduces any of the technological advantages implemented IMO.

    • @meanders9221
      @meanders9221 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my thought initially. But if the dust collection is as good as Peter shows with the onboard bag then it would be applicable for jobsite and remote operations. With everything going cordless this situation will probably sort itself out in a few years. For the time being I agree with you, I'll continue to use my corded sanders with dust extractor. When they wear out ten years from now we will see what's up with cordless sanders then.

    • @danparks8894
      @danparks8894 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I guess that's were cordless technology shines and it's certainly impressive for those situations. I'm just a hobbyist who likes making things at home, who happens to have a penchant for Festool products, so I always 'work' in a fixed location. For me, it's unnecessary but for those who need to take their tools with them regularly, I can see the benefits.
