OWI has announced it is reducing the 120mm max range to 2000m, reducing the lethal radius of the airburst, but increasing the wounding radius: store.steampowered.com/news/app/393380/view/4203628368743186996
A thing I found useful when running forward observers: have them mark where the shells land. This way figuring out how much to add/remove becomes a simple equation
my go to is place boat markers (works great too if you're telling blueberries) their mortars are hitting short. Much quicker to fix the distance without a whole '5/10meters short' etc
Problem with correcting mortars like that is inherent shell spread. Should work well for initia corrections, when shift from target is about 100+m but for more granular tuning you’re much better off just running calc
Those 120mm mortars are absolutely nasty. Ran them in a set of 2 on Al-Basrah invasion as TLF with mortar calc. 30 kills + 30 bleedouts per tube by the end of the round (on 2nd cap since we ran out of tickets).
As someone who's MOS was 13F in a BFIST team in the Army and deployed, I long for this kind of gameplay. There are many days where I really crave the pure Fire Support role but it's so incredibly hard to find in Squad or any other game. I used to even make terrain sketches during Arma 2 ACE campaigns just for the realism. Thanks for the great perspective on an adaptive method!
OWI should partner with you and other good content creators to promote your informational stuff. It's free advertising for their own game, odd they don't just link stuff like this in the main menu screen.
That video was a lot of fun, I enjoy this more relaxed and talking-shit-with-friendos gameplay. Legitimately great content! Also 20:01 120MM HE Barrage Stratagem IRL 4 real lol. And it's not anemic like HD2's (fully upgraded D: ).
if you use point of interest marks, it put multiple down instead of only one. you can use those to give mortar man an idea of the direction of vehicle movement.
Your playstyle is pretty cool, you seem to have a good knowledge of open tactics on the battlefield which brings me great joy for viewing. your squad seems semi pro whilst the rest of the team seem dedicated pro's. although, im sure thats down to you guys reviewing the new update and not taking the game as seriously. i enjoyed the content bro, keep it up
Glad you enjoyed man! We’re all just a bunch of dudes that spend way too much time playing Squad lol! There are some things from my time in the military I can use, but ultimately I focus on having fun in the game. Thanks for the comment!
If you switch between two of the three mortar types you can fire much faster. Great for when you have an accurate HAB mark that you want to drop HE and airburst on quickly
wierd how much people focus on fire & manoeuvre or mechanized infantry tactics so much in this game, yet i barely ever see mortars built let alone a dedicated mortar squad for observed fire, despite how absolutely pivotal artillery support has been for pretty much the entirety of military history since the adoption of gunpowder.
Maybe one day rocket launches (or other means of reaching orbit) will be wayyy cheaper and the vibrations during the launch will be reduced to levels that don't need significant engineering effort to resist them. Then maybe we could get orbital support for stuff like artillery like Helldivers hahaha. The time to impact would be very long, we can't have forteresses literally floating right above like the game. But for now space launches are prohibitively expensive: everything must be built to resist being shaken like nothing here on Earth does, including pressurized vessels for crewed modules and all supplies necessary for operation. I'm doing a masters in mechanical engineering and I've developed expertise in simulating structures and their response to launch environments. I can say that orbital launches are one of the most demanding mechanical environments that man has to deal with. The vibrations that satellites have to survive during launch are extremely severe, when we test spacecraft on vibration tables (shaking at an intensity below the real launch's), it shakes so hard that the surfaces of the spacecraft act like a speaker and produce dangerous levels of noise by just hitting air. For big spacecrafts it becomes physically harmful to be in the room where the test is run. So imagine how strongly everything has to be built to not break off and cause a disaster. Also what if a nut were to unscrew itself during launch? It would bounce and hit things with such violence it could break off bigger pieces, which would hit more things and break bigger pieces, and ultimately it would make the entire rocket explode. Yeah, we secure every single fastener and make sure it's secure lol.

Your content is so good, you should be getting a lot more views for sure. Btw, I joined the 7th server and my ping was between 180 and 200 unfortunately. I'll still play there from time to time, give me a holler if you see me (RedWarrior) :)
@@HaebyungDance oh nice, i didn't even think about that. I'm still using windows just for gaming lol. I'll need to switch back to my old gpu for geforce now unfortunately
I think GeForce Now technically works on any hardware, just some high-end features require Nvidia GPUs. But if you have a good native PC that’s definitely preferable.
It's a setting in game. If you open your map and click on the gear on the top right, it opens a whole menu of map settings, one of which changes player icons to their respective kit icon.
Man. The gunplay looks fun, but my computer can't run it. I can't shoot as fast as you do on semi, and its pretty laggey all the time even with lowest graphics.
look i don’t know which one of buttheads was experimenting with 120 and hitting vehicles straight out of spawn on Manicouagan on QS… but knock it off😭 it had only been out two days and you guys had already figured out the perfect timing to hit the road out of spawn. granted it only hit mtlbs but i would have cried if we were in a logi truck. you guys were tormenting these poor blue berries lmao
I bought squad, and played it for 180 hours, but at this point the new update made the game Unplayable for me :/ Im getting max 30 fps with the lowest graphic settings I got 970 Nvidia and I5 3470 i have tried absolutely everything i got enough ram and everything and i dont have enough money to buy new computer so i guess im not playing it anymore for a big while.
Ah the intro is meant to add context to the gameplay - as in this one I explain the whole deal with the new mortar vs old ones. Regardless I add in chapters to the start of the gameplay portion so people can easily skip ahead if they want.

Hope you all don't mind the Discord comms - we were just using it in place of Squad comms to make discussing the update easier.

Your new call sign might be Encino Man after some of those fire missions
LMAO it would be very fitting

I was tempted
love playin with you dance, and your vids are very helpful -beef stew is good
Try it in invasion and with all the spotters you can get 40+

It’s not as sexy or “fair” but it wins battles!
It's not as glorious, takes great teamwork, and patience. These are a mortars' weaknesses.
Hell yeah

range is gonna get beat into the dirt 100%, not even a question

I recommend seeing if geforce now might be good for you, know a bunch of guys that use it.
if you got a couple bucks, you can look for used parts. you can get them much cheaper than retail.
I'd advise getting a CPU before updating your GPU as Squad is very CPU intensive- not so much GPU intensive.
Dude you got specs lower than the minimum and you're expecting more then 30 fps, for me performance feels better after the update...
@@shmeepicusI second this. A great CPU will take u further than a good GPU in SQUAD
Shooting from main is almost as bad as main camping- change my mind
7th server doesn’t have rules against main camping or such - we treat everything as a problem to be solved.
