    Looks like a very well planned out project. I like how you've made it modular and expandable.

      Thank you. I am using this experience to re-do some of the “mistakes” I made in the first attempt. The computer that I built works remarkably well, but I still see room for improvement.

    Looks interesting - My first computer (Feb 1980) was Z-80 based. Looking forward to your progress.

    Looking forward to the journey :) Be sure to tell us where you're getting your boards made and how you design them! Oh, and please take a look at the audio normalisation. I had to crank TF out of the volume on that one and then the full-volume ads at the end almost blew me off my chair!

      Thanks for the feedback. And yes, I will be posting links to where I source my parts, and where I get my boards.

    Courious start of channel. Well, to be honest, It's my first time on TH-cam being "involved" (aka seing the first video) in the start of a channel. Well done! Good luck.

    If you make sure that the memorymap can go to all RAM you could run CP/M.

    It is interesting.
    My first computer was a Z80 powered Osborne my got in the mid 80's.
    I have been thinking about building a Z80 computer and this project maybe just what I am thinking about.

      I grew up with a Commodore 64 so I always turned up my nose to a z80.
      I am kicking myself because it would have been a great learning experience. Ahhh, with age comes wisdom.

    Wow, amazing video. I want to know if this can be done with 8085 microprocessor. I mean i want to see a homebrew computer made using 8085. Its just a suggestion from me.

    Can you tell me how do you make the PS2 interface? Im building my own computer with a Z80 and Im already make this display some characters in a 16x2 display with an old PS2 Keyboard that I have using only some flipflops and a bunch of logic gates. Im now pretendind to interface the PS2 keyboard with a Basic OS but the project that I made was a mistaken. Every key that is pressed the logic gates to interface the keyboard send a INT pulse that makes the Z80 jump to a specifc part of my code and this type of interrupt dont work well with the Basic and the "bios" that I found because its use the Interrupt Mode 2. Im not understending how to make this two thing work together. Thank you and please continue with your work, ypour project looks great!

    • @Pony80
      @Pony80  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the ps2 keyboard is going to be included in these videos. Up to that point, it was the biggest challenge that I encountered.

    • @Pony80
      @Pony80  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And, I might add, this part was for me the most challenging. It took me many tries to get it right.
      I fear the VGA interface is going to be worse!

      No, I designed this before I was aware of the rc2014, but I may go back and change the layout in the future.

    I hope the video controller is TTL or CPLD based .. none of that FPGA, Parallax Propeller, Raspberry Pico or Arduino rubbish .. I am counting on you man!

    • @Pony80
      @Pony80  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      YES! That was all I could find, so I am challenging myself to build it TTL if I can.

      I vaguely remember some Z80 designs using the Z80's built in DRAM refresh hardware to output video. You might want to look into that.

      I am not sure what happened on that video, but TH-cam has no way to correct it once it is uploaded. It doesn't seem to have happened on the clock circuit video.
