But.....a really worthwhile and well appreciated video. Lots of high profile players don’t get it out there what they’re playing. I suppose there are all sorts of issues with regard to offending various manufacturers and suppliers etc. So ‘thank you’ for being down to earth and accessible with your art!

Great recommendation with the optimum lig. I just got one for my birthday - I couldn't believe it actually made such a difference, so much more resonance and depth to the sound!

James William incredible right?! I can't quite get my head around the physics of it. How can such a small change make such a monumental difference?! Cx

It's definitely hard to get your head around. Also that the different plates seem to make a slight difference as well. Satisfied that I won't need to look into other ligatures though :)

Yay! It's crazy how much of a difference it makes right? Such a small thing but such a big change. Glad the video was useful honey. Thanks for watching the channel. Cx

You gave a great tip in another video of yours Chez: stack stuff in the horn of your saxophone for storage. How couldn't I think of it? Well today I exercised for about 45' and couldn't believe my sound was so different from yesterday. Come the time to clean and dismantle my sax and guess what? I forgot some wipping stuff in the horn! No wonder :)))))

Ha ha! We've all been there! The other sax-incident is when you bring it up to your mouth too quick and bash yourself in the face. Have you accomplished that one yet? ;-)

Not yet but if I did it would only mean I'm playing a gig and my sax improved a lot 🎷🎷🎷

Hi Chez, just wondering if you've ever tried the Vandoren mouthpieces. I do like the idea of the Vandoren Ligature because it allow more freedom for the reed.

Jason Christopher Gamban I have done but I personally found them a little tricky to control. I may do a video on choosing mouthpieces. I'll chat to the guys at sax.co.uk & see if they're happy to collaborate on this... x

Hey just want say I love your videos, I've recently got back on my alto after a 7 year break! Watching your videos has really helped me back into it all. So thank you for that!
My question is I'm looking for a new more comfortable next strap. Do you recommend any good ones. I've seen you use a few different ones in your videos? Thanks in advance Gemma x

Heya hun. Sorry for the slow response and thanks for your lovely words about the channel you hero! Have you seen my review on the saxlab holder? I wasn't a huge fan because i'm a bit small for it but i know lots of players swear by it! You should also check out my video on my tenor set up as the strap I use on this (DG) is an absolute beauty! So comfortable and looks smashing too but price tag matches this annoyingly. Cx

Hi Chez. Thanks for the video. Very interesting. Was wondering if you have tried the Francois ligature and if so... your thoughts on it vs the vandoren. Also... will you be doing this same type of video for your tenor set up? Would love to see that. Thanks again for all your help.

Gipstetz hi there! Thanks for getting in touch. I have indeed tried the Francois. Oddly, got on well with it on baritone but not on alto or tenor. I think it's very dependant on the mouthpiece. Here's a link to my tenor set up; th-cam.com/video/xcUAQ4cfYIU/w-d-xo.html
Would you find alto & sop set up useful as well? Cx

Great advice on the alto setup, very helpful. One question on the mouthpiece. Do you prefer the 5 or 6 opening size and why ??

    • @cheztaylorsax
      @cheztaylorsax  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Ted Rhoads good question! I prefer the 6 myself. Bit more oomph. It's got a touch more jazz. And more flexibility to colour the tone. Cx

My small question is as follows ;) , have you ever considered the cannonball range,in this case the GA5-SB Gerald albright signature series, I haven't been playing long but I am the kind of guy that doesn't want to piddle about climbing the ladder of sax's simply cus it costs ££££ sh##t loads.I would rather spend about 2.5 k now and be done with it,that way I can blend with it over time..
My first and current sax is a student cheapo which cost me just £237 4 years ago from "gear4music" , in this time I have 'intermittently' but learned plenty enough to realise where my issues are...... i feel now that I need a change cus this cheap sax is now starting to suffer with the response as I get better.plus several keys stick which is an absolute pain in the j j j Jack sparrow. :) I am assuming that this problem can be as a result of spring strength.(correct me if you will).
initially I wanted to change just the mouthpiece of which is a 5c Yamaha, ( I feel somewhat out of puff, not sure if its the reed/MP or the sax that seems to have plenty resistance) but feel that my progression may be based on a combination of. ( tho ive heard that a fatter crook neck or sax chamber can be more free blowing)
I have tried a metal MP which has a narrow opening and found this to be quite comfortable compared to what I have.. using a 1.5 or 2 Rico royal,
I desperately need a new sax but maybe not the MP at the mo..
as I say and because I am willing to fork out 2.5k,, I would like something decent and other than the selmer super action 80 type the cannonball is deemed to be top of the list where quality/build and intonation is concerned.
apologies for this lengthy post but...
I would be very grateful for your time and
hope you can throw some advisories/ideas in my direction.
    TIA.
    Daza :)

darren hill thanskfir writing. You’re right to reach out. It’s a lot of cash to splash & you don’t want to waste your money. Unfortunately there isn’t a straight forward answer. You really need to get down to a decent sax store & try some out. If this is impossible for you, then I would say I know some die hard cannonball fans but I also know that they can require a lot of love & attention & do have their quirks. Yamaha tend to be reliable models as are yanagisawa. Selmer mark vi is the other common favourite which can also have its issues along the line. Re:mouthpieces there’s such a huge range out there & it really depends on your style, taste & form of playing. Have you watched my video on my top 5 mouthpieces? This may be useful... x
