I really like that Corvair, sir. My brother has a yellow one, and he drove me to school in it everyday. He got a wrecked helicopter and took the jet turbine out of it. He put that baby in it last spring, and the blonde chicks really dig him.
Tom, my son bought an engine that you built last year. I flew out to his home last October and helped him install it. It is a bear. We got it in the car and fired it up at about 10 p.m. at night. His neighbors probably weren't too happy but he sure was. Back in the day I had a "62" Monza. My Dad and I rebuilt the engine and I added headers and dual glasspacks. It was a really strong running car. I've always had a soft spot for Corvairs and Ralph Nader was wrong. My son has the car that we installed your engine in and a "62" Rampside that he got last year also. Sorry this is so long but with everything he's told me about you I kinda feel like I know you. You sir, are a legend.
Thank you John for your kind words. I enjoyed meeting Dan and am happy he's enjoying his 'new' ride. He left me with a few souvenirs from Newton Division which was very thoughtful. I have a '64 Corvan I bought in 1967 that has been with me through thick and thin. Corvairs make good trucks. TomKeo
@@tvkperformance5968 Never really paid attention to vairs til very recently. SHoulda bought one many yrs ago! How many rpm were you turning, whats a stock bottom end capable of maybe with better rod bolts? Your vair crowd should bug Edelbrock for some better head castings they do a number of MFRs at their foundry few miles from me .SoCal
Woah those are killer speeds in a small light short wheelbased car! the 60 with the 468 on nitro almost 220mph? No rear wing either that is frightening man! Great video, hope the Bonneville tradition continues wonder if any younger people could give a rip?
Ron, I've been wondering what you've been doing. We're in Oregon now. I'm trying to find a way to send a private message with my contact information. I found this but it didn't work: "By clicking the username under any video, you're directed to the poster's TH-cam Channel. Clicking "About" and then "Send Message" directs you to a form on which you can compose and send a private message." I'll keep trying. Tom
Go to Matt's Off-Road Recovery to see what can be done with a Corvair station wagon. It's his go to vehicle for recovering vehicles that get stuck in the sand dunes of Utah.
Hi Tom, it's John P. Great story. I know there's a lot of thought, skill, and hard work behind it.
Nice car and great story. I had a red 65 Corsa turbo 180 hp 4 spd. Bought it in 71 for $600. Wish I had it now.
Tom's the man, when it comes to going fast in Corvairs and doing it like no other. Truly a mechanical genius.

Genius then . . . Genius now! Bravo!
Thanks , what a great story !
Our Corvairs withstand the test of time!!
Just think, with a good engine and a decent front spoiler, wheel covers and side skirts, def hit 200.
Great. I finally got to see you again. Remember me? Ron Harrison from Hughes.
