    People who are legitimately claiming SXSG looks like Forces' level design clearly forgot how bad that games' level design was. Which is crazy considering Forces seems to live rent-free in these people's heads

      Nah, i find 06 to be pretty fun. Plus, I'd rather be frustrated by getting screwed over by bugs (that dont really happen to me that often, btw, but im not saying it doesn't happen at all.) Than be bored to death playing a game with minimal input.

      @@Tr4yst3r 06 is the opposite of fun. I find it both boring and frustrating at once. With 06's clunky, slow controls, on top of badly designed levels that drag on for 10+ minutes. It kills my fun when a glitch or asinine design flaw ruins my run. Forces has its faults, but none of them are nearly as bad as 06's imo.

    I remember seeing the detractors for Shadow Gens in terms of level design for them wasn't outright just the alternate paths, but rather the lack of Drift and Slide

If Sonic Team showed they can learn from that, I can easily see them incorporating at least a better drift than what Frontiers 3-5 did, but I wonder how they'd even fit that in when they already have basically mapped so many moves to every shoulder button

    and the crazy thing is that there's hidden chaos control paths that zip you around like a light speed dash section which encourages thoughtful chaos control usage and experimentation. Also we haven't seen the new doom powers in action!! This game's level design is gonna have so much shit up it's sleeve I swear. This opening stage's *level design* washes Unleashed and Generations no biased.

      @@LocalTrapTV yep ik what I said controversial as hell lmao but it's deadass the length of windmill Isle and ghz act 2 combined, more paths here than in those stages, requires somewhat clever chaos control usage, and the atmosphere just sick asf. (music is more intense too I like it)
      we start on the outside of the space station, we move our way inside feels like a spy movie, and then we just get teleported into an entirely different location AND the stage transitions make it feel like a movie... I ain't saying that this stage is better than most of the gens and unleashed stages I'm just saying it's better than the first levels 🚬 but I will say that the gameplay animations and camera work in those games are superior. 🫣

    16:53 Gotta be the most important part for me in terms of gameplay. Overuse of automation in previous Sonic titles is what killed the whole purpose of Sonic games which is 3D platforming. Solid video, Local.

    This game looks great. I actually can’t wait, this is exactly what I wanted back in forces. It’s open, I can already see how much fun I’ll have learning to start speed running it. There is a few stages in forces that were fun to run but nothing like generations or unleashed.

      We got leaks saying that the next mainline game will be frontiers style but they defo want to do an adventure game at some point. Perhaps they want to flesh out and revisit some characters first

    My guess as to why ppl go to forces has less to do with the level design and more so how the layout is integrated in the overall setting. Forces had the thing where the terrain itself was very flat or "inorganic" and so to speak compared to Unleashed & Gens where you'd see curves in the terrain even in corridor sections, it felt more natural in general. SxSG seems to have some of that left in it's DNA(with more engaging layouts obviously), but that could just be because of how the original ARK stages looked like and them playing it close to the chest in that regard.

      Yea I think it’s just how most Ark stages are designed but the radical highway section had more unique terrain with the roads splitting and diverging up and down. The only thing that makes it look comparable to forces is the camera and the fov. We need unleashed level of camera work back in these stages

    I know were here for Shadow Generations, but as a Colors fan (first game ever) I must defend. I know as a boost game, it's not designed well, due to all the platforming. But I invite you to look at it from a different perspective. If you view it as a different take on the boost, maybe you'll appreciate it. It's platforming challenges aren't bad, they're fun. The only reason people criticize it is simply because it's not like Unleashed and Generations. I can understand why people dislike it. Same for Lost World, the werehog, and even Frontiers open-zone. But please don't use the very fact that it's different as a means to call it trash.
    Now with that out of the way, I'm glad the folks here on TH-cam, both TH-camrs and commenters, all agree that the level design is very well done. Some say that it's still not up to (and obvi some mfs say "nowhere near"), the quality of Sonic Unleashed and Generations, but I think it's right up there. I say this because not only are the very people who made said games also come back to cook for Shadow Generations, I can already see signs of what's too come this October. Y'all remember Seaside Hill? People praise that level up and down because of how jaw dropping-ly massive the stage is. I can count about 3 places where there were 4-6 different paths to take, and I love the way some are intertwined. Why do I bring this up? well I'm sure you remember that one open area from Space Colony Ark act 1.
    You see where I'm going with this?
    IT'S LITTERALLY SEASIDE HILL AGAIN. And in the _first level_ no less.
    I have no doubt that Sonic Team will blow us away when it comes out, and hopefully continue to with the season pass and the next mainline game. I know I shouldn't already have high expectations, I even said such myself to others when the initial launch trailer dropped. But I really don't see how they could screw this up, I mean the games already finished (as stated by Midori on twitter).

I just played through Colors earlier today, and while I still love it, I can totally understand why most sonic fans won't vibe with it. It's a very peculiar take on the boost.     Forces pathways are designed pretty narrow. Like they're designed specifically to accommodate you and the gameplay. It feels like you're running through a generated course rather than an actual level. It feels like Cyberspace without the excuse of literally being what I just described in canon. Unleashed, Gens, and even Colors levels are designed to look more open and have more going on in them.
    Also they're not short as hell save for when it's justified like a tutorial stage. And even then, it REALLY says something for you to take a minute 30 actually playing an Unleashed or Gens 1st level, and get about the same time on Forces' while messing around trying to get to the sand waterfall path. Honestly you should've shown off the jungle stage or Mortar Canyon, two stages infamous for their automation and shortness. People have literally beaten the former one-handed, and you can more or less just jump and boost over all of the latter since the stage goes downward.
    Also there's the lack of manual Drifting and Wall Jumping save for 1 Avatar stage, so Forces stages aren't design with those sharp turns and wall jump segment, objectively giving them less depth even if length wasn't a problem.

    This game is a little bit designed is better than forces and cyberspace frontiers, but worse than unleashed in generations I think the main problem with this level design is the alternate paths connect to the main path way too quickly where it’s kinda just useless. Let’s say there’s a top path bottom path and the main path which is just going forward. Top path is very hard to get to stay on and it’s very different from the main path, but it gets you to the end very quicker with some rewards like a bunch of rings and some lives and red rings, but the bottom path is a punishment for being bad at the game, which is very easy but is filled with barely anything in spikes and it takes longer to get to the end and then the path is just normal where you’re at the game you’re not taking any shortcuts or top paths where it will reach to the cinematic part of the stage of like kicking the barrel and black doom or quicker to the end of the stage, which will give you a better rank I know this is the first level but still the first level should show what the game is gonna be like and how better it will be. another point is this is a personal thing but it’s not just difficult enough and there’s too much automation. I think we should just get rid of dash panels forever. I want to be in full control along with that. A lot of the rooms look very empty and there’s barely any enemies. This is why I like unleashed more than gens because of the difficulty of dodging everything having QTE on your toes and like adventure rail grinding because you have to balance it so you actually have to try. I do like how a lot of the Rams don’t have automation and it’s just you have to boost up there yourself, but there’s literally a segment where you run forward dash panel to the left another dash panel grab a handle goes up slowly and then another dash panel, but by far the best alternate pathways is the one where you go through the ring at defending the gun robot. It’s by far enough and way faster, they just need to expand on that then I think we got some really good gameplay, but obviously there needs to be some stage gimmicks and shadow has certain abilities so he can unlock some cool shortcuts and pathways he could have before from unlocking new abilities, like I said before it’s better than forces and frontiers cyberspace, but worse than generations and unleashed

      Also very minor thing this is a personal preference, but I feel like these characters are way too slow when they’re not boosting they should have the adventure style controls where you had to gain your speed and then boosting will just reach top speed, but you still have the chance to reach top speed without boosting When you reach top speed in a non-boosting state then boosting will like double your speed or something like that also let the characters keep their speed when they’re not boosting when you’re boosting and then you stop boosting you should keep your speed, but you just can’t damage enemies anymore so it’s way more difficult and you have to be way more careful

      @@Codyslx that’s not what I’m entirely saying he did shave off an entire minute, but the path needs to differentiate itself from the main path way longer like I said the harder path is harder to stay on, but gets you to the end quicker. Main path is just not taking any and the easy path which is just a punishment which has like barely anything and is way slower with like no rewards, but these alternate paths in the game right now it connects the path way quicker. It needs to be a whole separate area that gets you to the end or cinematic area faster.

      @ezbeezee815 Not sure what your expecting. This is a boost game, the benefits of alternative routes should be additional speed. People expecting every divergence to take you to another planet need to keep their expectations in check. That type of design would only work in a game that controls like the SA games.
      I'd agree that the bar to access these paths is a way too low at the moment, but this is also just a tutorial demo, even then, fadel so far was the only person to figure all this out.

    In my opinion Shadow Generations Level Design is no where near as Bad as Forces but it does have Forces DNA with how reliant it is on Homing Attacks and the Design of its alternate paths. I’m going to make a full video explaining my viewpoint soon as I’m tired of typing it over and over again 😅

      Respectfully I don’t really agree with the homing attack take. There are plenty of sections and routes that don’t require you to homing attack to progress through them but I respect your opinion
