1) My new favorite woodworking phrase is "wompy jawed". Thanks for that. 2) I love that you promote inexpensive tools, especially for beginners like me. Nothing wrong with buying high end tools as you can; nothing wrong either with buying less expensive to get started. Really liked your bit about extended warranties at Harbor Freight. 3) Wishing you nothing but success and all of God's blessings.
Gosh I love you guys. You and your wife are so real, so kind, and SO talented. I watch your channel cuz ya'll give me confidence to try new projects. Thank you for being you!
They are more expensive. However I sure like using them. I started getting 50 packs at the beginning. Now I get the biggest pack they have when I am building a new project, because I'm bound to use them eventually.
🧐What caught my attention on the tail end of my nap😴, and waking up to the video, was that you had included the time and materials cost😎. I rewound (scrolled back) the video and started it again. Inspiring me to build my own T.V. Cabinet to go below my 75” T.V., since what I’m imaging hasn’t been available on the market. As a content creator myself, I have started including my time and materials cost for building some refrigerator and oven cabinets, floor tile demo, etc. and plan on continuing that to help people understand what tools, time, and materials they will need to do whatever project. I use pocket hole screws and dado joints, as most of the cabinets I build are for kitchens and baths. It’s good to see someone including the time and materials, and so either a homeowner, or cabinet builder could estimate their time to do the same. You know we all hate doing estimates for something we haven’t built before. 😄
I see the wheel holding your project up while your doing the pre-stain. I use small plastic kid cups from the dollar store to hold projects up while painting. You have given me the confidence to push my skill level and try new things. Thanks
Thanks Matt for keeping some of the challenges and issues in the video instead of editing them all out. It gives me hope that even those I look up to as experts also face the same challenges as the rest of us! Amazing build as always. Can't wait to get my own small workshop up and running in the next few weeks.
This is exactly what i was looking for. Bought your plans for this, but had to make modifications to it. I put a small fridge in the middle part. I’m new to this, and if wasn’t for you i would have never done it. I was very intimidated by it. Don’t have a table saw, just circular saw, miter saw, screw and impact driver, speed square and nail gun. Oh, i also bought the kregg rip cut. Little advise for new diyers, don’t forget the clamps. Even with the ripcut, i kept getting wompy yawed cuts when cutting the play wood. I finally realized i was not clamping the sheet of play wood to the table. I almost wasted a whole sheet. and i almost threw my circular saw because i was blaming it for the bad cuts. So please remember to clamp everything before doing any cuts with circular saw lol. Thanks Matt for the instructions and the plans. Because of that i have a very happy wife. Wish i could show you the pictures
Been wood werkin' for thirty years and just now learning of these new species of lumber: woneba's, toobas, and toobates...🤣🤣🤣 I went to my local wood stores and they didn't know what I was talking about...🤣 Seriously though, love the build, will definitely be trying the minwax prestain. Loved the lauan lap siding. Your instructions were great....and I learned a new term wonkyjawed.....🤣🤣🤣🤣
Looks amazing! Thank you for always taking the time to not only explain what you’re doing but why you are doing it. I also love watching you and Mrs 731 interact. God has blessed you and may He continue to do so.
731 You can talk the way you want, Say what you want, Be who you are .. its your channel & you are the reason we watch.. its not your articulation & No pocket hole skills .. I need to learn pocket holes.. thank you 731 🙏🙏 Linda from Ct 😁🙏
PRO TIP: When making wood projects that you are going to paint, instead of using wood filler you can use drywall compound because it will sand nice and take paint with no issues. It can also fill countersunk screws and minor imperfections like small cracks, dents, or dings in the wood.
DAP has a product called Plastic Wood filler. I use it on wood to paint. I’ve even used it to fill pocket holes when I ran out of the little covers. It dries rock hard, sands easily and paints up perfectly.
Great video and awesome looking build! Glad to see you use the jointer and planer. My wife got me the Wahuda for Christmas and I used it this week for the first time as I am working on a shoe rack/entry bench. My seems did not turn out great so I think I need to do some adjusting on the outfeed table of the jointer. Thanks for creating great content and for spreading the Gospel.
I watch your work religiously. Good narration, excellent explanation and you are easy to understand. I am waiting for my retirement house to get finished so I can build everything! I am only missing a table saw to complete my tool list. Built an 18' x 30' she shed for woodworking.......Thanks for being on TH-cam!
This is great. Watched the time lapse too. I like having both styles of videos. You made a comment about pocket holes and how they were fine for light duty. I've got a storage shelf I made and it's pretty heavy duty. Pocket holes are holding up just fine. I don't use them as much since I got a domino. But they work. Nothing wrong with pocket holes.
Cool that you left in the struggle! Looks like every cut I make, ever... 😁 Also great that you need a third hand for measuring, too. Floppy tape measure time!
Good job Matt. I spray all my own cabinetry and I'd say I'm an excellent painter. I can usually get a 95% perfect finish. Actually just about all paints will fill in 400g sandpaper scratches. Occasionally some finishes will require you to go to 800g but that's super rare. Usually 400g is the highest yoh ever need to go for wood finishes. Going higher than that will make sandpaper clog faster, sanding will take longer, and you will get worse adhesion between coats.
I definitely need to get my garage straightened out. I have alot of tools, and tablesaw miter saw, I love wood working but when things aren't tidy and in order it's frustrating. Next an AC it's so hot in Missouri! 88 today! Humidity ugh
@731 Woodworks, you mentioned not getting stain to work well with filled holes and not being able to get it to match.... take your sawdust and soak it in whatever stain you're using. Pack it in and sand smooth when dry. Perfect match every time.
I just changed out the blade on my homemade tablesaw (circular saw mod) last week. Amazing how bad it actually gets before you notice it’s time for a new one! Good call! 👊🏻
I still love that old circular saw! Also, you can make those rip cuts on the plywood with just a decent straight edge and any old saw that is made to ride against a straight edge. Just because you don't have all the cool tools, doesn't mean you can't build something like this! I've ripped full sheets of plywood lengthwise with just a 2x4 for a straight edge and my $20 jigsaw.
Pocket holes are great for right angles on sheet goods especially for things like cabinets. I'm a professional with 23 years of experience and I still use pocket holes because they are quick, strong (especially when combined with glue and proper spacing), and fast. I can do better joinery but a lot of times there really isn't a need for it and pocket holes save my clients on labor charges.
Awesome build! Turned out amazing. I just bought myself a kreg 320 and I am excited to use it on my bathroom medicine cabinet build. Keep up the awesome content!
Very nice! I’m not very knowledgeable in woodworking and trying to build some cabinets and a bathroom vanity. Your video gave me a good idea of how to do it.
I laughed at the beginning. I’m a Kreg pocket hole guy! I also had problems using the kreg rip cut until I bought a new blade. Now, my cuts are straight! And when I can, I use pocket hole joinery. Thanks for keeping it simple and showing us that quality can be achieved with these tools!
Love your content and honest talk. I have to be one of your farthest away biggest fan....on a little Island called Saipan off of Guam. New to the business and I appreciate you catering to us beginners. Keep up the awesome work.
Tip if I may cut your shelves first and use them as a spacer for the dividers saves you pulling your tape and as you say bowing them out if there is a difference
Don't worry that you like using pocket holes. A lot of people probably don't remember but on The New Yankee Workshop Norm Abram had a machine that made pocket holes and he used them a lot for making face frames.
Outstanding video, great work. I love the step by step videos they are so helpful thank you. Every time I watch one of your videos it gives me more confidence in myself again thank you..

I really love the Kreg Rip Cut. I have a track saw which is nice, but you can't beat the Rip Cut for making repeat cuts of large sheet goods. It is fast. You do have to be careful at the end of the cut just like you said.
Beautiful build. I just watched one of your older videos on building a blanket ladder, its amazing how far your channel has come. Keep up the great work
His channel has come up because he's honest about making money at woodworking. No it's not Fine Woodworking but the market wants this kind of furniture.

I seen on another video a great suggestion for filling holes when staining, they mixed sawdust with the lacquer of a similar stain color (rather than glue and sawdust that doesn't stain the same), sanded a bit then stained. I haven't tried it yet but worth a try :-)
