Tony, thank you for this. I have a KLR650 I struggle with putting on my carrier and taking it off solo without feeling like I'm going to drop it and get squished. I was looking for a solution with a winch. You just saved me tons of trial and error!

This was an excellent demonstration of a great idea! As a 5'4" woman, I never thought I could utilize one of these rear racks because my bike is just too heavy for me to safely man-handle up and down the ramps. But your winch setup is ingenious. I really like the way you added stabilization straps too. Thanks again for a great video! You've given me some hope about carrying my Versys with me when I go on longer trips!

Tony, An amazing project! Congratulations on your work. I have a small scooter that I would like to mount on the FRONT of my Honda Ridgeline, using a front end trailer hitch. My problem is from: 1. How to prevent the bike from moving sideways(front and back) while driving, and the distance of the motorcycle handlebars ends to the front hood of the truck. If you still use your setup, or if you have any ideas to help me, I would appreciate your advice. Can you provide more photo's of the 1-Support chains that limit your sideways travel, and 1- the stabilizing straps that appear to go through he side of your truck tailgate? Thanks for any assistance!

Nicely done. I was contemplating the BlackWidow carrier (600lb version), but the issue of getting the moto up there with ease was gnawing at me. This solution fits the bill. Great job and innovation.

Question for youi - have you ever seen a motorcycle carrier that has the tow hitch extension in the front so one can also tow a trailer behind the motorcycle carrier? I want to put this rig on my Motorhome to carry my bike and tow a Mazda Miata at the same time. Please let me know. Thanks!!

I had a long 5 gauge cable laying around so i got it from the battery going under the chassis and at the batterie with positive but grounded to the chassis and with a 20Amp fuse

@@kenb6102 I had a roll of wire from a construction left over I think is 6 gauge and I carefully ran it from true the frame and securing it with zip ties heaving extra loop of wire to allow expansion for flex all the way back to the winch and later added a fuse 40 amp just in case to the battery

Hey, I love your set up with the way you load and unload your bike. Are you able to send any information how you mounted the The winch on your truck I also noticed that you remove the chalk from the ramp. I’m in a rule area of Hawaii so I’m it’s rare to get help ... Ride safe my friend

I used the mounting plate for the winch that they sell in hourbourfreight like $15 and bought U- bolts of the with of the receiver

Thanks Tony! I had been contemplating doing this for the past 15yrs but had a trailer so never pushed the issue hard. Ironically 2-weeks ago I stumbled upon a dirt cheap 600lb carrier on CL and snagged it, then came across your video. That gave me the inspiration to cobble one up for myself. I found a X-Bull wireless winch on Amazon that came with synthetic rope pre-installed and nicer remotes, so I believe it is a better deal than the HF package. For piece of mind I am still going to use lightly tensioned straps in conjunction with the foot-peg latches, just in case there were to be a failure in the system. Would you do anything differently, or have you made modifications since your video?
I have answer some questions like the one you just ask in previous messages maybe you can read them and see if you can get something out of them , I will give you a update latter on today I am working now

Great setup only thing that scares me is the strength of the foot peg mount on the bike and how’s that bike carrier I want one for my Africa Twin is it strong enough?
great observation , I had the same concern I did slack one chain lick less so it does relieve tension but the bike still solid , I have done about 800 miles in this set up so far no problem but great point to consider .
Can you do a run down video on the actual winch setup and wiring please?

Awesome system. How’s the carrier held up over time? I’m considering one of those carriers for my Yamaha FJ09, but, being much heavier compared to a dirt bike, has made me question its structural integrity, specially over time.
I have used it for about 2500 miles give or take no issues
I have 19 4runner would you recommend doing this on a 500 pound bike s1000xr . Planing to drive from texas to California

Blake Talton hello thank you , my only addition has been a solid square tube on the hitch carrier male receiver , I did that just for peace sake and if it is a long ride I did used some additional tiedowns because you never can take to much caution but short rides to the trail rides just as is

What's the tongue weight of your truck? Do you have airbag on your rear shocks?

hello it's a hit or miss all depends on the hardware you will used or find , the trick is lean it away from you until almost touch your vehicle and set the first chain to hold it in position ( not touching your vehicle but as close as posible ) let go of the bike then go to the inside and set the chain as short as posible and hook it up .

Thanks Tony. Can I ask about the hitch tongue weight because i want to use the solid hitch on my sprinter van. Says max 500 lb tongue weight. My KLR is about 450 lbs. Your bike is over 500 lbs. Can you comment on tongue weight . Jim
i have a class 3 tongue for 800lbs you can change yours too they are bolt on and not too expensive
I have been going back and forth on getting one of these carriers. My bike is about 500 pnds. and I have a class 4 hitch. May I ask, how heavey is your bike and what is your tongue weight? Im told I can support up to 1400 pnds but it is very scary having that much weight behind my vehicle.
hey how are you yes my bike wet weight is close to 560 0r 580 pnds i have had no issues in couple thousand hwy miles in it

so far so good , but I do stay on top of it double checking if anything loosing

Hi Tony, was wondering about weight. Looks like you have a Tundra like me which typically have a max tonque weight of 500lbs. This carrier weighs 91lbs and the Africa Twin weighs over 500lbs itself. So you are putting ~600lbs on a 500lbs rated hitch. Have you had any issues? I have a Triumph Thruxton and am trying to do a similar setup but the weight concerns me
hello my friend well you have a point ( but ) I have a class 3 hitch is 600lb but it's factory and overbuild and I don't ever load the bike with to much fuel but for the same concern I did put a solid steel bar inside the carrier male receiver because I was concern over the quality of the hitch carrier , but I am not concern at all on the truck side of things because I have loaded way heavier trailers on that hitch . but specific to your question ( no I have never had a issue with it and have just under 2K miles using it that way

@@ralphp4146 Hello Ralph let me see if I can explain , i went to my local trailer supplier and they sell and customize hitch and receivers so basically the side of the hitch they sold me a solid bar that i had to grind a bit on the corners and push inside the square tubing flush it was super tight but I when one step further and spot welded the corners .

Mike Monoski hey 👋🏻 how are you , I was lucky when I purchase my truck it came from factory with class 3 hitch witch for my truck is 600lbs so yes a am on the nose but I had done about 2000 miles and fortunately no issues so far the truck doesn’t even squat

harbor freight sells this $4 mount plate so I bought 2 and I sandwich with 4 stainless steel bolts
