I have 3 different friends who quit CO jobs in Ohio for the same reason. They can force you to work double shifts with little to no notice . The prisons are understaffed to the point of being very dangerous. Then on top of that , about half the staff they are forced to work with are not much better than the inmates.
@u.snative9727 I know when I used to work for Ohip Dept. of Rehabilitation and Corrections back in 2008. You work 8 hour shift and get a phone call from the captain 's office telling you you're frozen and have to work a total of 16 hours. Don't forget you still have to report to your normal shift and don't be late or it's write-up. Get three and you're fired.
@jonalbert717 Yet violent crime against those re: race, faith, nationality and sexual identity have skyrocketed since 2016. The great majority of those were committed by those who identify with the (far) right. It's disingenuous to imply such things are not happening.
My husband just got out of Ross and it was the worst prison he was ever in. WORST almost as bad as Lucasville. Literally gangs inside there literally so much violence he had his nose broken 4 times in fights. Real life OZ shit.
I used to do that job and one thing they could do that I think would help is when you talk about First Responders EMTs and police need to talk about correctional officers because they are vastly outnumbered. It'll be 1 to 50 for real. 1 to 25 1/35. And they never get talked about when people talk about thanking people for their service.
In the criminal-loving country in which we now live being a corrections officer is a job that is not worth it. Too much risk. Too unsafe. Too little pay. Too little respect, especially from governors, inmates, and the public. Law enforcement in careers in general are not worth the hassle/threat.
One to 50? At MCI it's 1 to 120 or a bit higher or lower. There's one lock where it's 1 to 50 and only the well behaved get in there or stay. We're out of sight and out of mind. Admin rarely, if ever, complete the rounds they're supposed to and being in the Hall during mass movement? Even rarer.
@ I agree! But we need a governor who will follow the law and enforce the death penalty here in Ohio. Governor DeWine keeps making excuses and kicking the can down the road.
Rest in peace to him and his family 🙏🙏 our governor doesn't even care about anything he needs to retire asap put in someone who really give a damn about these demands of the prison systems in Ohio SMH

@AlbertHess-xy7ky In the 30 years that I have put into corrections I have met many different kinds of inmates. Many of them were very intelligent and those are the ones that I got along with but, I showed everyone respect and from most of them They returned it. I was respected more from the inmates than my co-workers. As crazy as it sounds.

Ya probably short staffed with people calling in for christmas didn't help. Short staffed, no one grows up and says man I want to work in a jail. Underpayed, overworked, unsong heroes..rip
Yeah everybody feels so sorry for the officer but I'm sure there was a reason for him attacking that officer because behind closed doors they're not good people and we expect your family to say that you were good LOL
Actually the body cameras footage will be released and it shows the attack was unprovoked. The inmate had a bad call with a family member and went outside and attacked the first officer he encountered.
The problem always goes back to mental health. If they keep imprisoning people who are mentally unstable and incapable of making rational decisions, correctional workers will continue to be increasingly at risk! You imprison people who are able to follow rules but people who can’t even control their own thought life will not follow rules with any certainty and therefore present an incredible risk!
I almost completely agree, but it's not THE issue. It's part of the broken system. I back the blue 💯! I do know our system is broken though because a lot of people need mental health help and not thrown into jail. Jail isn't a rehab nor is it psychiatric hospital. Sometimes...and MAJOR emphasis on that, it's the best option d/t our broken system. Prayers for all of those impacted by this horrific incident.
No more sympathy for elites, billionaires, cops, feds or any other confiscation agents of the state. I bet some of you cried about guards in Auschwitz that faced judgement at Nuremberg too.
It happens because they keep'em on lock down too much ever since they raised the security level on one side to "close security " and treat them as maximum security . Didn't mention how the guard died or anything about the altercation . Some guards are known to throw down on a one-on-one . It's possible that the inmate didn't mean to purposely kill him . They should do a full story , not pieces..
My son is there. They are short staffed. Staff is rude and barely competent for the most part. The food is barely edible (think guys put food from trays out for wild cats and they don’t eat it and vermin tracks in cake icing) . they are locked down most of the time ( meals and mandatory rec) . They have almost no access to any type of education, betterment programs, work programs, anything of that type available. Drugs are rampant. So basically you have angry men sitting in locked boxes getting cold and hungry and angrier by the day. Sounds like a winning combination huh? Yes they committed crimes and need punishment but most of them don’t even have any real heat. At one prison my son was at they woke up to ice in their toilet bowls. Ohio needs to do something about their system
@melissasalyers7869 Ross was one of the better prisons back in the 90's . Both sides were opened . well they do make it impossible to be a prison guard, with the qualifications needed. you can get a better paying police job ... also now weed is mostly legal so urine testing scares away good military vets that are perfect for the job
@daveh8316 qualifications ? To sit around until they decide to make rounds ? They need to teach guards how not to be tuff guy's , thinking it makes inmates scared enough so they bow down and take it . Funny how you never hear about the cool guards getting in the mix of shit ...
