I built mine in 2021 with 2x4s, 2x6s, plywood and acoustic foams from Amazon. Hands down the best money I've spent (around $1200). I can practice any time no one can hear a thing 😊
I'd be really interested as well. I'm just now in a position to build one... got a whole bunch of youtube vids to take as a guide but any other info would be really useful.

Great video Jay!! My own solution was a normal practice until 22 hs (it's legal here in Argentine), and after them.. i play ONLY romantic songs.. so the neighbors are happy and no one comes to complain😂😅 Of course, i play not loud, and close good the window, because my little music apartment beside of my house isn't soundproof😊 😊
I bought a custom 6x5x8 booth from them a few years ago, best investment i've made so far as it's easy to move between apartments and not bother neighbors here in NYC. Only downside is with these bigger booths you need to make sure the weight of the booth won't be a problem for the floor. Sure it's portable but I've had to get a ground floor apartment everytime which sort of limited my options, especially here in NYC. Then again I have one of their bigger booths so that may not be a problem for the smaller booths. When I was thinking about purchasing the booth Guillermo, the owner, personally made time to facetime me and talk me through all my questions. Really great guy and glad to see the company growing.
I auto cutoff at exactly 8:00 p.m. by the cable clock ⏰. Once my neighbor left a congratulatory note on me car that she loved hearing me play. We had only recently moved in. I was mortified, not realizing she was listening 🎧 so intentionally. All practicing is NOT beautiful. She later encouraged me in person, when she realized who I was (the person that owned the car where she left her hand written note). I was re-mortified, but thanked her graciously and secretly wished I had a soundproof practice room too.
Hi from Germany. I got my ONE 1 1/2 Years ago. The only way it would fit, was in our bedroom. So Studiobricks build one with a door (smaller than the usual one) on the small side of the cabin. Though its only about 1 x 1,40 m. its absolute enough to practice and record. I'm not feeling uncomfortable at all ! Best buy ever (besides my YANY WO2 UL :)
Congratulations for your aquisition! I'm sure you go to your next level soon! As a sax player, we know how we feel when we want to pratice, but at the same time we don't wanna bother our Neighbors 😂, to solve it, the only way I've found was study musical theory 😅.
This was exactly what I was looking for (but can’t afford right now). I can’t see that it’s actually so portable. Looks difficult to set up but even worse taking apart. What about those pieces that go into the corners and sink down completely? How do those come out? Anyway, great video! Still on my dream list alongside a pro quality tenor sax.
As someone who built their own room in room system in the basement that works very similar to this, I can tell you what I didn't consider in my dream of practicing at any time of the night is that after an exhaustive day, I'm just too tired most nights...
@@BradyAmerson we live in a very old house, so the basement floor was just clay and I was able to built a foundation for that room that has no connection (due to insulation) to the rest of the floor. The ceiling is about 10cm below the actual basement ceiling. Also, I made sure to avoid 90 degree angles so that the sound doesn't bounce from one wall to the next and I think this had an impact on the acoustics inside the room which are pretty good.
Thank you for giving us this great in depth video. I'm considering the XXL version to give a little more room for a flute player... particularly when playing the alto flute. Being a transverse instrument I don't want to feel cramped. If the music stand arm has a good amount of extension from the table then you would be able to play with your back to the door.
I have one just like yours and I love it! It sounds good, it's easy to assemble, stylish, and let me practice and record whenever I want. I'd recorded baritone, alto, tenor and flute with all sounding great, besides that it also works for my wife voice-over recordings. I've made some tests to where place mics and eq and now I have presets for the recordings. Compared to other booths it's much better, well built, eco-friendly, and better to stay hours inside. Totally worth the price. It is really a happiness capsule🎷
Is there enough room to play the flute comfortably?... is the width too restrictive?...I'd need enough space to be able to play alto flute so maybe the XXL would be the better option as this one may be just a little too small.
@@DeltaRana4 Hi I play flute inside and it's ok. I think that if you want to play alto flute it's better to go with a bigger model, but you can play sideways and it's ok for me when I play flute for a long time.
That's a pretty clever system. I live in an apartment. I have a huge closet that I play in. All of the stuff hanging on the racks drops the sound level quite a bit. Just to be on the safe side, I try to be done by 10 PM which is when the state's noise ordinance is in effect.
I spent hours and hours searching the internet over lockdown for the right solution and not a single review online was clear enough as to whether studio bricks is as effective as it claims to be. @@axe4sax651 I did look into KUBE as well as a few others including DYIing my own solution. I love it and am glad you like it. But I must say I am a little bit confused because of the diffuser style wood plates. Besides the purely technical design that doesn’t really makes sense in my opinion there is the physical aspect of diffusion. For it to proper work, you need a room big enough so the sound waves have. Enough space to travel and diffuse. If you are close to a diffuser it can make things worse. Critical for mixing/mastering and recording. In this tiny space inside the booth it’s more pure reflection but no diffusion.
I got an idea... do mouthpiece exercises and practice overtones extensively for a week at 7am-8am in the morning, especially on Saturday and Sunday, then, if you are still alive, start a gofund me page and distribute the link to your neighbours...that should help to cut the cost :)
Nice vid! What would be the total weight of this configuration? I was surprised to find out I can't just put a too heavy load on our floor, but about 300kg would be ok...

When I play in my small room it sounds kind of uninspiring compared to say the kitchen where it bothers everyone.
