Translation Commentary (Translation Annotation): Showing Students the Ropes

A webinar given on April 11, 2021 on Translation Commentary: definition, How should an annotated translation look like,? What should it include and exclude, desirable and undesirable features, marking criteria for translation commentary, steps to initiate a translation annotation project and some illustrative practical examples. Some tangible examples have been offered to link theory to practice, a very long-standing rare feature in translation

من دون الإشارة إلى المؤلف او الكتاب حتى النص مأخوذ من ترجماتي وهذا غير مقبول اكاديميا. بدأت المحاضرة تنصح لكتاب لكاتب اجنبي وبعدها اعتمدت اعتمادا كليا على كتابي دون الاعتراف بهذا الأمر الذي ازعجني جدا.

Thank you so much for this valuable lecture and I would like to ask a question: would you mind suggesting some literal texts which, I am as a student of translation can translate and provide an annotation.

Thanks for the query. Choosing a specific genre or text type is not confined to specific students. Feel free to work on a text you find yourself happy with and comfortable about. No specific text type comes high on the target list of close scrutiny or translation commentary. During the session we had, we reviewed different texts (literary, cultural, etc). I also gave different texts as an assignment for those who felt they were interested to take the threads of the session further to unfurl. You may choose any text (whether a poem, novel, play, etc). Hope your question has been answered.
